Is on the way according to guitar world as he was so happy with it that Fender have realised that more people should be able to access to it. Hope it is not just a USA run but Mexican as well

If I had to speculate, I think this will be an Artist Series similar to the Brent Mason Telecaster which had a $13K master built exact match relic and an Artist Series that matches the specs completely (and non-relic) and goes for $2400 $2700  $2900 (probably going to have to add a few hundred in June)

So I'm guessing $3K - $4K range if they are matching his 60 strat specs in non-relic, non-custom shop.  If it is near $3K, it will probably be a good deal and save money versus buying a custom shop strat

The recent Harrison signature was $2899 - I think you're onto something Jason

I have emailed the Fender dealer I use to see if they know anything.   Gotta get on the list for some of these even before they are announced.

I heard it's a Made in Mexico version... I bet similar to the EVH Frankie relic... probably in the $1,999 range. Release date unknown.

Doesn't make sense to do a USA sunburst non relic version... That's like every other guitar they make... the Harrison made sense for USA because they don't make an all rosewood guitar. Plus USA doesn't do relic and Mexico does (road worn, Frankie, Jason Isbell Tele etc.)

I'm betting on it still being made in the US, closer to $3k, similar to the Harrison tele reissue.  I'm beyond curious now.  I am just thankful the pricing is Gibson pricing, they think everyone is rich.

I was wondering about the relic and if they would release a clean version ... as noted the master built relic Brent Mason Tele is super beat up but the artist series is clean as a whistle.  But yeah, a clean version of Mike's is a standard color and wouldn't be distinguishable other than a signature on the back of the stock.

I guess I'm hoping for an exact match on neck, nut width, body, pickups, material,  frets etc. to match 1960 specs.  I'll happily take a clean one.  I can just let my nephew borrow it for the weekend and it will look just like Mike's.

If they relic it to match Mike's, I don't see Fender being able to sell it at a "reasonable" price.  But I'm not familiar with the MIM cost and process ... I just know that browsing custom shop, the heavy relic can add almost $2K to the price

Yeah I'm very curious to see it, because if it is a clean reissue, whats the real difference between it and say a '60 reissue?

I think the cheaper guitars typically don't get reliced too much because most of them don't have a nitro lacquer finish. I have the J Mascis tele and it came slightly artifically worn but the wear was all on the neck, hardware and pick guard not the body. My guess is they may do something like the Brad Paisley telecaster which is a road worn nitro lacquer so instead of the precise relic job the custom shop did on the first edition, maybe its a more mechanical process that gets repeated for mass production but we are still able to buy a guitar that shows at least some of mike's signature wear.

I heard the same thing. I don't think it will be announced by Summer NAMM in a few weeks, so hopefully by Winter NAMM. But I'm hoping for something sooner than next January. I think a relic'd MIM version is what they'll do and they'll move a lot of them.

I was watching a video by Casino Guitars and they are reporting that supply has finally caught up with demand, at least on the $2000 and under guitars ... higher end stuff is shipping, but they noted some orders were placed 2 years ago.  But they are getting calls from manufacturers like Fender asking if they want to put in purchase orders after 2 years of being ignored.  Along with buyer confidence going down, Fender is going to probably need to inject some new product line soon so maybe these get put into production sooner.  Just speculating.

Reports on the interweb are that Fender fired 300 employees (entire afternoon shift) in its Corona, CA facility.   They also axed the guy behind the Acoustasonic (i figured they would build a statue of him based on how many they sold).  Hopefully this cheaper McCready model is too far along in production, for I fear it gets scuttled with cost saving measures at Fender.

It had to slow down at some point.  I know I'm definitely out and about more.  Traveling more for work.   Played about 2 hours of guitar the last month and I bought 20+ guitars last year.

If I had that many guitars to restring and tune I might have to find another hobby! I barely keep up with 5.

A 2015 custom shop relic '59 stratocaster came up on a local ad for $2700.  It has the Clapton 9V battery for mid range boost, which I'm not familiar with.

Seems like a good price (compared to what they want for new), but it is a Craigslist listing.  The serial number checked out on Fender's lookup website.  Problem with the heavy relic is that they guy could have dropped this down a flight of stairs and I wouldn't know (may actually increase the value by adding more "relic").

It could be a poor man's (ha ha) version of Mike's guitar (or at least what he thought it was).

  • That is a sweet looking Strat! Price seems like steal.
