The 30+ song set lists done for good?

Last night looked like another fantastic set. The band sounded awesome. We may not be getting 30 songs a night right now but they are playing their asses off and mixing each night up nicely. Lets see what Phoenix brings!0

A big IF, but possibly Fresno or Sacramento would be the only ones I can see it coming out for as a tribute - I'd be shocked if there wasn't a 5 yr anniversary tribute to CC at at least one of them.cutz said:
I think so too.aisleseats said:
I think Comes Then Goes would be perfect to open encore 1.RiotAct10 said:
Agreed. People keep saying 5 or so covers a show have been cut, which while true, it’s also the first encore that’s been cut. I am a bigger fan of the slower and more mellow tunes, so I hope they find their way into the set list somehow.OceansJenny said:I love a slow first encore. Bring out the stools let’s gooooo with some All or None.
But, will Comes Then Goes be played at all?0 -
Damn folks complaining about only 23-25 set lists? I bet there’s folks from Raleigh and Baltimore that would take 23 song set list on a Saturday night with no problem!jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

Happy to have caught 14 shows during this run (not counting festivals or hall of fame)JimmyV said:Don't know about for good or forever but apparently for now. If something has to go I'm glad it was the covers.

It’s weird but 10 years ago I’d be totally bumming if I couldn’t score tickets to one of their shows! Even looking at set list these days I don’t feel like that anymore..jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

Maybe the longer sets will be saved for special occasions? The band is getting older so cutting back was inevitable. I’ll admit I would have been bummed out attending the early shows expecting two encores as standard but once you know the new normal than it is what it is. Like I said, maybe special shows go a bit longer or have a single 2nd encore song if they are feeling the energy. I just hope what we expected as a default still exists as a treatJones Beach II (2000), Holmdel (2003), Camden I, East Rutherford II, Gorge I, Gorge II (2006), MSG I, Boston II (2008), Spectrum II, Spectrum III, Spectrum IV (2009), MSG I, MSG II (2010), Prague (2012), Philly I (2013), Philly I, Philly II, Fenway I (2016), Fenway I (2018), MSG (2022), MSG I, Fenway 1 (2024)0

Definitely. There will still be special nights where 35 songs come out.merlin401 said:Maybe the longer sets will be saved for special occasions? I think there is going to be a shift towards the arena tours having shorter, more well known setlists going forward. They will target local crowds during these arena tours. Even this weekend, there was a noticeable change in crowd excitement when they played songs such as Even Flow, Alive, Daughter, etc. They are quickly approaching "legacy" band status (I don't mean this in a bad way one bit). I cant tell you how many friends/colleagues of mine have mentioned to me in the last couple of years "I really gotta see Pearl Jam and cross them off of the list, let me know when you go again"
Destinations, ballparks, etc will still be candidates for the 35+ song nights, and these will be the shows you'll want to target for travel if you want to hear the rarities.2010: Cleveland

Ed could also still be recovering from COVID physically. People I have spoken with folks that feel very tired several months after recovery. Pacing himself through the tour to get back into shape.0

My favorite PJ show ever out of all the ones I’ve been to was actually a “greatest hits” set. Why?Because it was probably the most on fire I’ve ever seen the band perform and the crowd was incredible. It didn’t reach 3 hours. Nobody in the building seemed to care that the Christmas single from 14 years ago wasn’t performed. They were just locked in and everyone could tell.0

Just curious about what show you are referring to.cp3iverson said:My favorite PJ show ever out of all the ones I’ve been to was actually a “greatest hits” set. Why?Because it was probably the most on fire I’ve ever seen the band perform and the crowd was incredible. It was just a pure rocking show, my area of the lawn was insane, I lost my voice which never happens (and I lost it before the first encore). It was just insane. Not to say I liked that show more than some of the “classics” but it was uniquely awesome in its own way.Set:

I'll come out and say it... Smoking for thirty years, getting covid, pushing sixty and Ed using his voice extensively doesn't sound like a recipe for thirty or more songs a night. :-/YoullseeDragons said:Ed could also still be recovering from COVID physically. Hopefully I am wrong and am so appreciative for what the band has given to us and continues to give to us.Post edited by evenflow82 onI've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell.

Changing up the setlist is more important to me than number of songs with respect to seeing multiple shows a year. So if it is the same 25 of 30 songs each night being played, I'll see a couple shows. But if it the same 10 of 23 that are played each night then I'll see more.

That’s what it really comes down to for me as well and so far I am very impressed with the mixing up of sets.bootlegger10 said:Changing up the setlist is more important to me than number of songs with respect to seeing multiple shows a year. agree. will probably always be the loudest, most energized building I have ever been in. place was on fire. the closing of the spectrum is a close 2nd, but the first spectrum '03 was in a world of its own.cp3iverson said:

I would say due to age, yes. The 30 plus songs are a thing of the past. It was fun while it lasted though.0
