It's really really good isn't it? Glad they aren't trying to Band of Eagles anymore and are back to their core sound.

  • Loving the new album too.  Just got the clear vinyl in the mail. Sides are labeled wrong on mine. Anyone else?

    Band of Eagles?
Glyn John’s worked with them on Mirage Rock. He also worked with The Eagles and for a time on the Beatles Let It Be. His influence was quite heavy on Mirage Rock and if I remember correctly created some creative tension during the sessions.

Why Are You Ok was a nice return to form, so probably isn’t fair to call them Band of Eagles anymore! I love the Eagles too BTW.

I remember finding Mirage Rock boring which was disappointing because I was really into everything up until then. I should maybe go back and listen again.

I really love Mirage Rock, I like the attempt to focus more on harmonies in some songs, but it feels like half of what Ben wanted and half of what Glyn wanted. The next one they worked with the dude from Granddaddy, Jason someone. Anyway, that one sounded more like a BOH record, but then Bill and Tyler split. Going back to Infinite Arms, man, what a departure from their first two records! I listened to those first two records obsessively back in 2007 and remember not falling instantly for Infinite Arms. Anyway, ramble over! They have such a great catalog! Love throwing all of their stuff on shuffle!

I really liked Mirage Rock from the beginning. But I could see how you found it boring. I thought it was just enough of a departure that it kept me interested in hearing what they would do next. How to Live, dumpster World, and Heartbreak on the 101 are some favs. Mirage Rock is over Why r u ok for me

Love all their albums. Hard to put my finger on what I think their best is. I think parts of them all are really strong. The Ryman live record is the one I play over and over.

I really enjoy all of their albums, including Mirage Rock. I thought Why Are You OK? was a really solid album and that tour was so fun and energetic. Hard to rank all of the albums, but they are all VERY close in my opinion, including the new one. Wish they had a headlining tour.

Great albums and I love Infinite Arms and Mirage Rock has some great tracks. I could not get into Why Are You Ok? Loved a few tracks, but not the whole. Really loving the new album and can’t wait to see them with Black Keys in Atlanta!

Yeah I’m perplexed as to why they are not headlining their own shows, I’ll pass on seeing them as openers for BK!

Heard them cover INXS on Sirius today. So cool they are throwing it into their live shows! My Morning Jacket covered the same song, Never Tear Us Apart some years ago at Red Rocks which was cool!

Finally got to listen to the new album. Still digesting but my initial reaction is wow

btw I listened to it on the clear vinyl. Sounded great but when did it become industry standard for no mp3 download.
  • I would argue the last two tracks on the record are the strongest. If Ben would take the sound of the last two tracks and expand it, I would be all aboard. It’s BOH but different enough. I think he hit on something

They are opening for the Black Keys when we see them in Cincinnati. I need to get familiar with their music before then.

Enjoy! I’d say get into the first 3 albums and the new one to start. I’m particularly fond of Infinite Arms.
