So my friend is being interviewed. I’ll post the results when I know where it’s sourced.

She is pulling out soon to pick up a load and head back to Cali.

The “people’s caravan” will arrive in DC the 9th.

Someone posted this on their site. I don’t think they’re all right wingers I do think some might actually be concerned?

I totally agree w the cash thing.

#5 is obviously about the vaccine mandates.

She is pulling out to grab a load to take back to Cali.  She is not the owner operator and even though had the blessing did not want to waste the owners money on burning fuel.

I guess it's kinda difficult to get people to protest against mostly nonexistent mandates.

    From USA TODAY:
Another trucker protest convoy falters as numbers thin

A truck convoy that rolled out of California bound for the nation's capital to protest COVID-19 mandates and other matters has given up because of lack of trucker interest.

"The launch in California had a good turnout of supporters, but only 5 trucks were with us on arrival in Vegas," organizers of Freedom Convoy USA said Saturday on the group's Facebook page. "There are 2 other convoys that have massive turnouts."

The organizers encouraged truckers who had expressed interest in joining their ranks to join other convoys headed to Washington, D.C., to air similar concerns. The Freedom Convoy had left Los Angeles on Friday, planning on reaching Washington on Tuesday.

Now the organizers are directing any truckers who had been interested in joining them to join the People’s Convoy that left California earlier last week or the Texas Convoy that has been trying to organize a drive to start in about a week. The group said it had $6,500 that will be dispersed to truckers who reach Maryland and Washington D.C.

I brought that up too, about protesting mandates that aren't there anymore.  I got an explanation of how it happened for a year, yadda yadda.

Don’t know if this belongs here or not, didn’t know which thread. But anyone who takes Uber regularly, have you seen a huge spike? We only do a few times a year, and a trip to the airport has tripled in 2 years.
First time using it it costs about $30 to go to the airport, about a 20 minute drive. Just checked for tomorrow morning, they wanted $105! I know gas is up, but come on. $105 for a 20 minute ride? No thanks.
Is there a shortage of drivers or what’s going on?

the sad thing is, at least when I was a driver for various apps, a cost increase to the consumer very rarely translated into increased income for the drivers.

Could be the time?  They do have price surges for popular time slots.

They announced fare hikes but not to that extreme.

It's worth watching Super Pumped (also featuring an a soundtrack of primarily Pearl Jam, three episodes in!) to learn about Uber's 'just slowly raise the price' strategy. Create a societal dependance on the service, then jack the prices once there are no other viable options.

Did you see where China is shutting down manufacturing facilities and locking down cities because of covid, further exacerbating supply chain issues and inflation?

After hearing horror stories (AKA whining) about stores being out of items for the past few months, i had my first experience with not being able to get an item I was in need of. Evidently, there is a shortage of fresh basil (at least in St. Paul, MN).

I had to substitute dried basil in my recipe. The horror!!!

it's been getting progressively worse over the past month or so here. and you never know what or when. apparently neither do the stores. just a completely empty section where the bananas usually are.

I understand it's not the worst thing in the world, but a lot of senior citizens are very regimented in their diets, and their budgets, so yeah, a simple thing as no bananas or lettuce could be stressful for them. to us it's just mildly annoying, but we adapt. not everyone can.

At the grocery store I shop at here in Canada, the cereal isle has been a ghost town for weeks.  A few items left but mostly empty.  I was quite shocked when I was at the Walmart in port angeles and their cereal isle was completely full.  In fact I didn't see much of any empty shelf space in the store.  I guess the US is having less supply chain issues than we are.

I don’t think it’s the time. Was 8:00 Saturday morning, not much going on. I do know the high demand hikes. Hotel to Wrigley field was about $30, coming home was $80 or 90 because of the demand.
I haven’t seen super pumped, but that slowly raise prices might be it. A few bucks a month Combined with possibly driver shortage creating a permanent high demand situation.
