Some random questions that pop into my mind here:
Where is the Jimi Hendrix Experience in all these polls?
How is it that Soundgarden is in the running for greatest American band here and Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Replacements and Husker Du are nowhere in sight?
Was Pearl Jam ever a consideration?
I don't consider The Jimi Hendrix Experience American, I guess because of the other members and where they originated.
In regards to Soundgarden... in the original poll they just came to my mind before the others you listed.
Pearl Jam was never in the running, thought that would be a huge bias in the poll.

maybe the winner of all of these competitions (american, british, etc) go up against PJ in a final round. There are many people here who love PJ but they aren't their favourite. it might be interesting.

    Good idea!  I like it.

For a second there, I thought you meant like Janis Joplin. Grace Slick, Go Go's, The Bangles, Pretenders, Juliana Hatfield, etc.
A women's rock band/ female band leader poll would be cool!

Yes, that would be cool Brian. Just wondering why we lost some voters/voices that we had in the earlier rounds.

Maybe due to lack of what they thought were viable remaining choices for best American band?

Maybe that's why we love grunge so much, the British let us keep that genre to ourselves.

Soundgarden is not grunge though...  Mudhoney was grunge.

Actually we should discuss who IS grunge, lol.

Soundgarden isn't grunge? Is this a tempo thing or a widely held belief?

    That's what I thought.

none of the big 4 are what would classically be classified as grunge. some argue that Nirvana's Bleach could be considered grunge, but nothing after that. Mudhoney. Bikini Kill, Tad, Green River, etc. all those "noiser" bands are grunge.

it's funny, I was kind of surprised to "learn" (depending who you talk to) that I'm not really a grunge fan either. Everyone I know still thinks I am. lol
