R.E.M.Crue is awesome. I enjoy them more knowing how many hate them. Fuck all y'all.

R.E.M.I'm in the middle of a Ennio Morricone film music collection play. After that, I'm putting some Crue on!
(How is that for a juxtaposition. Ha)
I will have to turn it down, considerably, since I am in office today and I don't want people walking by my office to be frightened.

R.E.M.For those that don't believe the Iron Maiden Hair metal thing just type it on ebay and see what pops up. There are many confused people. I wouldn't say it if it wasn't a thing people.
The later bands from Seattle most definitely got lumped into the "grunge" category. There was a musical movement that happened and bands like Smashing Pumpkins and STP were a part of it, similar in ways but were not friggin grunge...
@F Me I love me some Motley Crue. I tend to like the heavier songs though. Live Wire, Wild Side and Red Hot.0 -
R.E.M.
Yeah I love the heavier as well. First two records kill. The next three were ones that I loved (and still love much of) but much like Pearl Jam, the first five stand far apart from anything that comes after.tempo_n_groove said:For those that don't believe the Iron Maiden Hair metal thing just type it on ebay and see what pops up. Best film soundtracks.
Have we done anything with that yet?

I tell you two I loved and had high hopes but they broke up shortly after? Primal Scream and Angela. I was happy, they were back doing some good music and they fucked it all up and broke up...F Me In The Brain said:

Still have the first five (and especially first two) to make me happy and rock out.The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -

Odd comment. A page back you were happy to have learned the definition of grunge. A difference of opinion comes in on that definition and we now should do away with it because “consumers don’t count”. I would say marketing exists because consumers do count.OffSheGoes35 said:

18 year old dancer on stage and otherwise not being able to sing convinced me they had gotten the last dollar out of my pocket. One of the worst concerts I’ve ever seen, Tommy Lee’s roller coaster drum solo couldn’t even save it.

Yes, I was happy and you immediately challenged that newly learned definition. You also said that you weren't going to make known your reasons for not liking Aerosmith, and then the first post of the next round you immediately went after them. You ruined Aerosmith for me and then went on to say that you don't participate in the cancel culture. I guess we're both capable of making odd comments.1ThoughtKnown said:

Anyone who knows anything about the timeline of music knows that Maiden pre-dates hair metal. Hair-metal bands were no doubt influenced by Maiden.Easy to explain about Pumpkins and STP. One had a song on a soundtrack of a movie about Seattle and were relatively unknown until that point. STPs first single singing sure sounded a lot like PJ. They wouldn’t be grunge bands in my book, but they were hard to pigeonhole so they got lumped in, completely to their benefit judging by record sales.

The Maiden thing only comes from people that usually are casual fans. I talk alot about music so i hear it from people.1ThoughtKnown said:tempo_n_groove said:For those that don't believe the Iron Maiden Hair metal thing just type it on ebay and see what pops up. Bush and Blind Melon can get lumped in there w Grunge too. Being of the same era it happens like you said of being pigeonholed.
Anyone w an ear could tell that that the two bands sounded nothing alike. First song was Sex Type Thing. I often wonder what people hear? I giggled also when Scott Stap was rumored to be Vedders brother because they sounded alike. They too sound nothing alike. You have a baritone voice and they all sound alike? That always drove me nuts. Life of Agony must have been EV's side project...
Good stuff 1Thought, I appreciate it.

I meant the first hit single from STP, Plush. His vocals were very similar to EV and it was summed up pretty well by David Spade on SNL. I honestly thought it was PJ the first time I heard it.tempo_n_groove said:

Yeah, did not think it was PJ at all, lol. David Spade made his bones killing anything popular at the time. He was the OG troll on SNL. His Hollywood minute was hysterical though as I am sure that is where he might have said that about STP?1ThoughtKnown said:

Soundgardenthere's nothing wrong with liking the crue. calling it hair metal doesn't automatically mean it's hated. I saw Crue 4 or 5 times. Nikki Sixx is a legendary songwriter.
Tempo, I don't doubt you've heard people call Maiden hair metal, I've just never heard that personally. And I used to be a down in the dirt metal head and still hang out with many. How can a band with a mascot like Eddie be called hair metal?
I always found it odd when I would see Blind Melon get lumped in with grunge. I mean, seriously, put them next to Mudhoney and tell me they are in the same universe musically. Blind Melon is neo-hippie music (and I love it). People (and marketing executives) just have this insatiable need to classify everything. which is how we got to PJ and STP and Pumpkins being grunge in the first place. all about marketing.
it's funny about Creed. the first time I saw them live it was at a festival. They had one or two of their first singles out, so they were popular, but still couldn't justify main stage. They were in the afternoon on the side stage; Scott Stapp was in full Seattle garb: flannel, doc martens, holding the mic like Ed and swaying back and forth like he used to do. The radio host the next morning went on a rant and ripped into him as a terrible Eddie impersonator (and this station was the presenter of the festival).Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
