They banned him from the store but too little, too late. So dumb to give those unicorn bottles to randoms that they don’t know and trust. From what I’ve heard it’s average bourbon with a ton of hype.
Two spots that I have gone to for years both sell at jacked up prices now so i don't even bother looking or asking... Time to find a new spot.He sold it on a secondary site. Not sure which one, but my store monitors that stuff to find out who the flippers are. I like that they do that because I don't flip it. Keep these guys away which results in more opportunity for me to get bottles.Sucks that your spots jack up pricing. Mine sells at retail, but this is the challenge it creates for them. The flippers are out in full force. That dude bought a bottle for $70 and sold it for $2,300, but now he'll never step foot in the store again. Stupid game for sure.
We do sell, when we can, allocated bottles at proper retail with no added markup. We put them out at random times and random days to throw off the vultures.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

Peg 1/2 oz
Dram 1.25 oz
Pour 2 oz
If measured and poured correctly a 750ml bottle will produce 50 pegs.0 -
what are the unicorns that get that treatment?
I'm surprised the owner doesn't take those for himself and sell them on ebay or something.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

Here's an example.....
Pappy 15yr retails for $139.99
50 pegs @12$=$600
Upwards of 50 different people get to sample it and are happy to do so.
You do the math.
Unicorn examples...
Any Pappy
BTAC
Birthday Bourbon
Wellers 12yr
EH Taylor Warehouse
Midwinter nights Dram
Etc etc0 -
High West's Dram gets lumped into that? Interesting.Bentleyspop said:

My thoughts exactly. Midwinters is good, but I'd never consider it a unicorn. I was able to randomly get one at Total Wine without any effort.tempo_n_groove said:

Unicorns are just bottles that you want but can't find. So it's probably different for everybody. For me, unicorns are bourbons that come out once per year in limited amounts to much fanfare, often barrel proof. Midwinters isn't on my list, but most finished whiskeys wouldn't be...mca47 said:

It was just an example of something we get maybe 1 bottle a year so it can't go out on a shelf.tempo_n_groove said:

Was it a Kroger store? There was a Buffalo Trace dump at Kroger stores here in AZ recently. Was able to grab a couple of ERs. Just missed out on Stagg Jr's. A buddy who told me he found a Stagg Jr at a local store took a pic. I was there less than 10 mins later and they were sold out. Ugh! Of course, there were no bottle limits, so people loaded up. Kroger is a big grocer in the Midwest. I know Dillon's, Jay-C and Ralph's are related names

Willet Pot Still. The whiskey snobs say it's a pretty bottle with overpriced and not as good bourbon. I have yet to open mine. how was it?Bentleyspop said:They say size doesn't matter. But if it does here's a 1.75ml.....

It was Mariano's which I believe is owned by Kroger. Went back the next day to get another Eagle Rare but they were all gone so I grabbed another Buffalo Trace.mca47 said:
