I dont see how late summer or fall can't happen.  Vaccines rolling out smoothly in my state. Its only getting easier. Plus even the bluest of blue states have realized things have to be back to operational by End of July. Not everyone will want to attend but my body is ready.
  • I’m very hopeful that Ohana will happen and there will not be quarantine requirements, even if there are capacity limits or similar.

For the folks that think 2023.... I guess I just have a very hard time seeing how it is going to take 2 years to get from 25% capacity at indoor sporting events to full capacity concerts

We are only 11 months into this and look at how far we have come

There will be a small percentage of people who choose to stay locked down at home for years until every last variant is tracked down and identified and what not, and that is completely fine and up to them to do so.  However, as the vaccine rollout continues, society will open back up this summer/fall for the rest of us as cases and deaths will continue to drop, even in the bluest of blue states as stated above.

I'm not going to argue that the band wont play in 2021.  But I would bet every one of my chips that 1 year from now, February 2022, I am sitting at my computer booking hotels and flights for the US Tour that will start a few weeks later.

I feel like there's a few different scenarios:

    1) If Vaccine roll out speeds up and everything goes off without a hitch, the end of this year could be doable.  The problem is the slightest hiccup could delay everything and cause things to get rescheduled.   The odds of planning for mega best case scenario are slim... so I'm guessing this doesn't happen.  I would call this the super mega happy ending.

    2) If we get to a place where Vaccine's are rolled out (and working) by the end of the year) then 2022 would seem reasonable to have confidence to start relaunching larger events in 2022 (sports, concerts etc...).  I would call this, the "probably going to happen" scenario

    3) Not so great scenario.   Variants spread that the vaccine's don't work on, effectively making it like the population isn't vaccinated.   Could delay things another year or two... sigh.

It's all kind of a tossup at this point.  I think the Superbowl was a bit if a misnomer.  It was a giant venue, and  a fair percentage of the attendees were workers who were vaccinated (against the strain most widely circulating in the US).    I think for the most part everything sits on standby until we see the thing stops spreading rapidly.

There's also the psychological impact.  Start things too early and a large portion of people might not be comfortable going into packed megabuildings.  It could impact the ability to sell tickets.

I hope it ends up being #1 or #2.  If we ended up with a variant that's resistant to current vaccines, I'm going to be sad.

i believe that the scientists aren't too worried about the vaccines not working on variants of the virus, since the vaccines are already developed and tested, all they'd have to do now for variants is tweak them, like they do with the seasonal flu vaccine. the bigger worry is the variants spreading quicker than the vaccine.

Hope this guy is right and we will be back to normal very soon.
I read that article yesterday.  Testing someone in 2008 who lived through the Spinach flu and they still had T-cell’s was remarkable.  Thanks for sharing.

My personal belief is we could have full concerts by the fall unfortunately we might not realize it until the fall.

My 2 cents based on nothing but my gut. While things are opening up, there still seem to be many unknowns (new strains, how vaccines numbers will play a role in mass gatherings). Things are literally changing every week with new info. Some of it's good news, some of it not so good. It would not surprise me if Pearl Jam waits until 2022. They place fan safety above literally everything else. So I assume they will be much more on the cautious side. I totally could be wrong, but it feels more in their nature to wait to be more certain on what to expect rather than be on the forerunners of trying to have shows. So if summer happens with some shows and things start to get ironed out on best practices, etc, they would start ramping up a plan in fall so they can hit the road in early 2022.

Story in today’s Philly Inquirer said they expect smaller indie shows outside this summer but that large arena or stadium shows will most likely be 2022.  The Weeknd put tickets on sale for early 2022 tour after his Super Bowl appearance. It also said they expect Springsteen, Taylor Swift and Bieber to be doing stadiums and arenas in 2022.  Highly doubt Pearl Jam jumps ahead of that timeline  I go by the assumption it will be 2022 near the same dates that 2020 should have been.

Spring 2022 is the more realistic scenario, but the tortured optimist in me keeps hoping for Fall 2021.

Boston Calling Festival (Memorial Day weekend) cancelled again for 2021. Thought they might try to shift to fall, maybe Labor Day but just outright cancelled for 2nd year in a row.

This one brings back sad memories since I was going to see RATM for the first time in 2020 there. I hope they still have the drive to play in 2022.

    Yep, me too.
I'm pretty sure Boston Calling was hopeful to have the same 3 headliners this year as got scrapped last year. Rage's current tour itinerary kicks off June 3 (good luck with that), so they were likely on a hold for Saturday May 29 in Boston.

But I'm glad I took the refund last year..

Better than last year, they sent email about refunds or rolling tix over to 2021 on April 21, deadline to request a refund was April 28.
    Not a well run machine.

Think this tour is like 1 month too early doh. Yeah not sure why all those festivals can't delay a few months, surely it's better for everyone to do that than postpone another year!

Brian Fallon just cancelled his US tour that was supposed to be this spring/summer after being postponed from last year.   Major bummer.  But I got an email from Ticketmaster that was odd regarding refunds.  It says that if you had tickets transferred to you, the refund would be going to the original purchaser.  In this case I am the original purchaser; but how would this affect people who bought through fan-2-fan?

That would be a mess for Fan to Fan. They would have to do all of the work on their own since they were the ones doing the transactions. They could barely handle getting @mcgruff10 money back months after he sold it.

  • I think the fan to fan mess was unique to PJ, which is not to say there might not also be a separate mess with refunds for transferred tickets to other shows.

  • I believe there are no payments required to transfer tickets.  It's just a way to gift tickets essentially.  So it makes 100% for the refund to go to the person that actually paid for them.  This is different than Fan to Fan.

I think fan to fan works like TM's regular reselling site, except for the fact they tickets are restricted to being resold at their face value.   I think this means in refunds, it's follows it's path back?  IE if the last person holding them has them, they request a refund which you pay, which puts you back in possession of the tickets, of which you request a refund from TM.

It makes little sense when the tickets don't change price, but it's because it's designed so everyone gets the right amount of money back (as it's the same portal used for TM's reseller portal).

Thats exactly how it works trickling back to the previous owner until it gets back to the original owner. If they straight up cancel and start over however I think it would be a huge mess with them trying to get refunds back to everyone especially with people from different countries trying to get refunds. I bet some of these tickets have been sold  5 to 10 times at least. Thats one ticket. I know the majority probably have not sold this many times but that is going to add up very fast and all of those transactions are going to cost them money refunding. I have no clue obviously and maybe thinking this way since I want to keep my tickets. Maybe it would be easy for them but seeing how they handled the refunds and customer service during fan to fan I do not have high hopes that this would not be a disaster.

  • I sold a ticket on fan to fan just before the shutdown.  After holding the proceeds hostage for a while, Ticketmaster eventually paid me.  But then, when they opened the refund window, the buyer took the refund option.  That refund was charged to me, and the ticket returned to my account.  I then had the option to also request a refund, or keep the ticket.  In the end I said F it, I’ll keep it for some future time.  But that was the system.
