Well according to Foxsnooze and some coworkers, the reason I am without power and heat going on 55 hours isn’t deregulation, decentralization of the for profit power grid and 20 years of Republican state rule, it’s you guessed it...radical socialist Joe Biden and the non existent green new deal!

Joe can’t kill me that easily though because my apartment luckily has a decorative fireplace and there is a nature trail I have been foraging and processing firewood from. Keeping the apartment at a steady 40 degrees! Checkmate Joe Biden, the globalists and the green new deal!
The non political explanation would be that you guys are experiencing a once in a century or longer weather event. Stay safe.

yes probably.  But there are plenty of places that rely on renewable energy that are much, much colder than what Texas is experiencing.  I wonder if the equipment is hardened for this type of weather.  My guess is that there were economic decisions that were made that didn't take into account once in a century events.

what I read this morning, and what right wing liars are refusing to divulge to their gullible viewers is that these turbines were not properly prepared for this weather. there are literally the exact same turbines in Antarctica.

I can't recall the exact treatment used, but texas didn't pay for it.

AND its only 10% of their total grid capacity?

The blame being placed On Renewables is deflection.  I’m a fucking welding inspector and I know that all types of power generation including windmills can be winterized. The small amount of power provided by alternatives this time of year isn’t to blame. It’s lack of winterizing and under preparation as well as a lack of any kind of regulation that would keep a grid this large from failing.  Why do windmills and power plants not go offline in Wyoming or northern WA or wherever? Because they are adapted to the weather. Global warming is real and events like this happen more frequently all the time.  I grew up in the Midwest in worse conditions than this and never saw a massive failure like this. Don’t let anyone blame renewables, it’s a lack of foresight and planning plain and simple.  If those power plants were winterized we wouldn’t be here even if all the windmills went down.  Not to mention an additional problem is that some providers aren’t starting up and providing power to the grid in an effort to drive energy prices up in the markets hit hardest. Failure on all levels.

I am sure those areas (North Dakota comes to mind) have procedures in place to prevent their wind turbines from icing up. Not sure what you can do as far as solar goes but hopefully this will be a wake up call that things like this are possible here, even if it is extremely rare.

I read 15, but yeah, the point is the same. the liars blaming this on the "green new deal", which a) isn't to blame b) doesn't even exist in official policy is just shameful. but not out of character for good old republicans.

I think we need to stop talking about these things as “once in a century events” and get used to the reality that these will be more and more frequent.

i agree. I'm kind of surprised people think this is going to be an anomaly. buckle up, folks, this is going to get less rare as time goes on.

I have driven through Kansas through near blizzard conditions, with temps much colder than Texas experienced. Those turbines on I-70 were turning just fine.

Shouldn't Biden be down in Texas by now tossing water and blankets at people to help them out?

It just works so much better with paper towels. Water and Blankets just isn't a very good photo op.

Power is back, no water...sometimes water does trickle out and we catch it and then boil it on the stove before running it through the brita.  Taking baths with hot washcloths of boiled water. Saving our wash water to flush toilets.   Could be 7 days or more before water is restored. I’m glad to be warm again though.

I really hope that this is a wake up call to Texas citizens that govt actually has a purpose and the profit motive is not always aligned with the needs of citizens.  But I'm sure this is Obama's fault.
