It looks pretty awesome. Unfortunately there’s probably no chance of it getting to Australia in time for Christmas so I’ll probably see it sometime next year.

Bought the first archives with my siblings on CD for my dad as a christmas present the year it released. He returned it to the store telling us he wanted the DVD-A or the BD version for the audio. Never picked up either. JUST POCKETED THE MONEY.

  • He should release a 2-3 vinyl release of the best from the first box. And the same here. Like, just the unreleased songs etc.
"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"
  • I'd buy a straight up vinyl pressing even if its 20LPs and $500

I would not, but I would like a DECADE-type release of just unreleased songs etc.

Not the albums included that has gotten standalone releases.

When I looked it up, it didn't look like there was a vinyl box option. None that I saw at least.  I would not buy the CDs though.

Yeah seems to be just CD unfortunately. I'm hoping a few of the discs are released independently on vinyl

  • Where are you guys seeing it’s CD only? I’m not expecting a vinyl press of Archives 2, but I thought there would be a bluray.

Sorry, I'm saying more specifically... no vinyl.  I'm sure there's digital download, etc.
  • Ah. Yeah, I was never really expecting a vinyl release of it. I’ll be happy with just a DL, but if he sells individual blu rays again, I’d pick up a couple.

I think it was stated on the Archives site somewhere. It's been discussed at length on the Steve Hoffman forums as well regarding the size of the box remaining the same even though it's only CD.

  • Wait now homies and bromies, I know that Archives was released only on CD, DVD and BD.

I am saying, he should have had a "best of the box" type release on a 1-3 vinyl release.
"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"
  • we know. it was pretty clear.

  • Looks like ROugh Trade is taking Pre-orders for Return to Greendale.

$100 for the 2LP/DVD/Blu ray set. $30 for the 2LP.

I like green dale as much as the next guy.  I think it’s one of his best.  But does this make like the 5th or 6th official release of these songs?  I remember when it came out there was greendale, with the vicar ST concert, then one with a negative artwork with a movie of crazy horse in the studio cut with some other footage, and I’m pretty sure there were like two dvd releases of the live show.  I feel like there are so many other things that could have been released before this.

  • yeah, especially looking at whats in the pipeline. I'd rather literally any of those other releases posted on the last page.

  • I bought Greendale on DVD, watched like 10 minutes of the movie... and I bought the Be the rain-single. I was very into greendale in 2003 or whenever it was released... haha...

And I loved the concert here in Stockholm...

But yeah... no need to revisit it

I agree, there are plenty of other releases waiting in the wings that I would rather buy first... but I still ordered the Return to Greendale box set without thinking twice about it.

Bring on the Archives II box!

I'm sure it'll come out eventually as part of the rerelease series. You may have to wait another 10 years though!

I guess drip-drip-dripping the re-releases out like Nintendo does with old games on their virtual console-thing has some economic reason...

... but I wish Neil would do it faster. Finally getting "Life" re-relased won't be an event. Just get the 80's albums out onto the market in one orr two go:s.

I'm still thinking about collecting all the re-issues (studio albums)=.. I guess I could find them all.. but it will be so expensive.

Its a big financial commit to re-pressing stuff alongside releasing new albums. Especially for a guy who has 45 studio albums and probably just as many live albums and just as many albums ready to go in the pipeline. As much as I want a big reissue campaign, I want an archive campaign too. SO I get why Warner Brothers is all over the place in terms of what gets pressed.

Seeing as they are up to the 80's with album reissues, I'm guessing we'll see Vol 3* of the archives before we see the 80s records repressed.

    * which I think will come much sooner seeing as they seemed to have ditched the video portion of the archives.

  • ...but should I start collecting the represses of the studio albums?

Most of the ones I have (original, some 80s repress or some german press or whatever, who cares) of the albums sounds fine... a few are second-hand noisy etc...

Man... need to decide what to do. And before they skyrocket in price.

I have OPs for every album, but I also bought the Vol 2. box because IDK, I just wanted those albums. But now I wish I bought Vol. 1. These reissues are amazing.

  • Arc/Weld and Unplugged are the only records I don't own.

I have the reissue boxes and they sound great. I’d recommend getting them.

I think the next vinyl box is still delayed by the labels. If there are 4 records to a box, the next one should have Hawks & Doves, Reactor (both Reprise), Trans and Everybody’s Rockin’ (both Geffen).
The Reprise records have been reissued individually but no box yet.

I wonder if Arc will be included in one of the vinyl boxes. It wasn’t released on vinyl, but would be nice to have.
