Excellent!  I love this concept!  I'm particularly stoked to hear some new songs from Nils and very curious about the others!

Tried to pre-order it and could get it to work.  Check with my credit card bank and it's not the card.  Broken website maybe.  Hope I can make this happen later.

Still unable to get pre-order to go through.  I've never had trouble with Neils on-line store.  Not sure what gives.

  • I'll travel anywhere to see Neil Young again. As long as it is in Europe. And semi-close or easy to get to from Sweden. By train and not by air. Anywhere.

The Ducks bootleg is up for preorder at last  =)

    April 14th release date

This is the first official release by The Ducks - a short lived group that Neil played with in 1977. The Ducks featured Neil (guitar, harmonica and vocals), Bob Mosely (bass and vocals), Jeff Blackburn (guitar and vocals) and Johnny Craviotto (drums). Mosely was an original member of Bay Area band Moby Grape; Blackburn had previously fronted his own band and co-wrote with Neil the classic track “My My Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)”.

The band played several shows in Santa Cruz, CA and other California venues during two months in 1977, and this 3-LP, 2 CD, 25-track live album features highlights from those shows. The set lists were very democratic, with each member of the band taking the lead in turn. 5 Neil Young songs are showcased, including a rocking version of “Mr. Soul”, plus beautiful renditions of “Are You Ready For The Country”, “Little Wing”, “Sail Away” and “Human Highway”.

I am pretty burned out on the 70's. the man made great music in the 80's 90's and 00's that I would much rather have OBS of especially an entire concert from the 99' acoustic tour

Can’t tell if he’s hinting at Vol3, or the pre-sale of the 2 OBS that happened later that day.

In his book Neil and Me, Neil's dad described the scene around The Ducks and Santa Cruz (wouldn't you know that was one of two years I spent in western New York state!), so this should be really interesting.  Nice to get a nod to Moby Grape as well.
    _____
Last night, I listened to Le Noise.  It was the perfect record for the mood around here which was rather glum.  I was feeling really down from the recent loss of Wayne Shorter and David Lindley and on top of that my wife got word that a long-time friend of hers had died.  Somehow, the heavy, other-worldly sounds of that amazing record were just the right thing to listen to at the time.
I try to really space out listening sessions for that record because I don't want it to become too familiar.  It's like a strong drug you don't want to take too often.  I have sometimes wished (besides the ones made available for streaming) there were more of that work Neil did with Daniel Lanois and Mark Howard, but Le Noise is perfect on it's own.

Today I heard Neil's "Rockin' in the Free World" in our grocery store.  That was a first!

OK Neil fans- here's a question for you:

WHY HAS CHROME DREAMS NOT HAD AN OFFICIAL RELEASE?

I mean COME ON!  Yeah, all caps!

Seriously though, is this not a great Neil Young album?
Two things come to my mind whenever I listen to this record:
    1. Guilt.  Neil hates bootlegs.  I hate bootlegs.  I AM SORRY NEIL, but I do have an Italian pressing and it sounds great.
    2.  Ecstasy.  Did I not say this is a great Neil Young record?  Just in case let me say this:  CHROME DREAMS IS A GREAT NEIL YOUNG RECORD!

Come on Neil, COME ON!  Put it out!

My copy has this track list (other variations have the same songs in different order):
    SIDE 1:
Pocahontas (same solo acoustic version that is on the official release Hitchhiker)
Star of Bethlehem (pretty sure this is the same version that is on American Stars 'n Bars)
Like A Hurricane  (pretty sure this is the same version that is on American Stars 'n Bars)
Too Far Gone (A lovely version with Pancho accompanying on Mandolin)
Hold Back the Tears (an alternate version with additional lyrics)
    SIDE 2:
Homegrown (alternate mix, nice and punchy)
    Captain Kennedy (Also on Hitchhiker)
Stringman (A beautiful piano/vocal song written either Jack Nitzsche or Stephen Stills, stories vary)
Sedan Delivery (A killer version, less punky than on Rust Never Sleeps, both are great)
Powderfinger (solo acoustic, also on Hitchhiker)
Look Out For My Love (terrific alternate version)

This is one of Neil's best albums.  I cannot for the life of me understand why he has not put it out as an official release, but then Neil seemingly is, at times, a bit of an enigma.
