CONSERVATIVE PEARL JAM FANS

The new "Ridin' with Biden" T-shirt made me remember the concert poster Jeff designed, where President Trump was dead outside of the White House. It got me thinking of what the band might possibly think about their conservative/Trump supporting fans, such as me. I have no issue with the band's politics because they always seem genuine and consistent, they put their time and money where their mouths are, and are some of the most generous and philanthropic guys around. I'm not one of those "Shut up and play!" people. I get it. I'm not so delicate that if my favorite band goes on a rant against the President I happen to respect and like, that I am going to cause a scene, challenge the band or its liberal fans, or storm out. On the other hand, do they really want me buying their music and merch, and attending their concerts? I would hope that they would see past the stereotype: I am not white, I am not angry, I do not hate women or immigrants, my family and friends are very diverse, I support animal shelters, and am a big believer in the Anton LaVey tenants of Satanism (in a nutshell, do unto others, etc). On the surface, things probably look pretty liberal. But I am a big believer in law and order, tight borders, strong military and police, 2nd Amendment, and true freedom of speech (not the cancel culture/woke business that is going on now). I would love to discuss world affairs with Ed, or any of you; I just hope the same courtesy would come back my way. Finally, I would never do this, because I don't get into all the MAGA hat nonsense, but what if someone in the front row of a show wore a MAGA hat? Not to antagonize, but because they just wear it every day? Anyhow, thanks for listening. Fan club member since 1993, and with "Gigaton," these guys totally dunked on me just as I thought they were starting to slip. "Clairvoyants" is one of the greatest songs in their catalog. Peace!

Who on Earth would ever wear this? Even if you love Biden. Or...even if you totally hate Trump. Can you look like a bigger dork wearing a "It's Time to Vote/Ridin' With Biden" shirt on?

I'm actually a lot like you politically. Conservative on some things, liberal on others. I'm not a member of either party because they're both a joke. Voted for Obama in 2008, and then Romney in 2012. Would've preferred to vote republican in 2016...if the nominee wasn't Trump. Like you, I do think the band is sincere with their unabashed liberalism. And regarding your question about a MAGA-hat wearer wearing one at a PJ show not to antagonize, but because they wear it every day. It would be perceived as being antagonistic. It just would. People feel antagonized simply by seeing it in the streets. Hell, I don't have any true hatred for Trump-fans, but even I look at them like "Dude, what are you doing?" when I see one in that hat (just as I would if I saw someone in this PJ/Biden shirt). So yeah, I think it would be viewed as antagonistic at a PJ show.
But to be fair, this one is actually a pretty cool design:

Anyone know whether all the band share the same political views? Aware that Jeff (in particular) and Eddie are left wing in their views but not sure about the rest of the band. They tend to keep quiet.0

I think they are based on Matt and Mike’s instagrams. Not positive on Stone but he’s a big climate-change advocate so I’d say he probably is too.drfox said:Anyone know whether all the band share the same political views? I'd wear this if you put it on a shirt! It confuses me how these people spend their entire life in politics and can't seem to figure out the simplest things. The Democrats spent the last four years trying to get rid of Trump. Now it's election time and the best they can come up with in the entire political party is Joe Biden. Look at the leadership. If this decision isn't questionable I'm thinking it will be in a couple months.
Things were different then0 -
Thanks. I assumed that’s the case. Was just wondering as here in the UK I tend to find most groups of work colleagues, friends etc are a complete mix of left wing Labour supporters and right wing Tory supporters. Op you like and respect Trump?
As a person?
I'm a lifelong conservative pre-2016 and I've always known Pearl Jam doesn't give two shits about my opinions. They would be just as happy if I didn't buy their stuff or go to their shows.
They walk the walk and that includes, I'm sure, being a-ok with losing some fans of their music so that they can fully represent what they believe in.
Until this clown was voted in I never felt like our country was doomed. I do now. The idea that more people don't hate the idea of such a person holding the office of president really makes me think we are screwed. I was super anti clinton as a philanderer - and Trump has his old buddy Slick Willie beaten by a hundred miles.
Good for PJ. Stick to what they believe in.
It doesn't matter than Biden is a joke. I would vote for an an actual dead person before I would ever vote for Trump. This isn't about how much more I can make under Trump. This is about being able to be proud to be an American. I'm ashamed that we gave the world this fool as our leader.
I will never align myself as a conservative again. Need to find a new label, if one has to apply.
People who supported Trump will never be looked at the same again, by me. This includes some people I have been friends with for 20+ years. I just cannot respect them as much as I did previously, even though I know many of them are good people and do good things in this world. The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -

Biden being socialist is laugable. I am voting for Biden, but he is REALLY fairly centered. In any other country, Biden is Conservative, and a different party is the Liberal party.Tjm007 said:

To answer the OP's question, I don't think the band would have any problems with Trump supporters attending their shows as long as they weren't obnoxious - and that isn't limited to politics - EV will stop a song in a heartbeat to kick someone out of the pit that is being too reckless. Also, EV was pretty close with Johnny Ramone, who was a bigtime Republican - I recall hearing an interview where he said he really valued and respected political discussions with him, so I don't see why it would be any different with a fan.9/28/96, 8/28/98, 8/29/98, 8/18/00, 10/8/00, 10/9/00, 4/28/03, 6/22/03, 7/8/03, 7/9/03, 10/2/04, 10/5/04, 10/1/05, 10/3/05, 5/28/06, 6/20/08, 6/25/08, 10/27/09, 10/30/09, 10/31/09, 5/18/10, 5/20/10, 5/21/10, 10/21/13, 10/22/13, 4/28/16, 4/29/16, 8/22/16, 9/26/21, 10/1/21, 10/2/21, 5/3/22, 5/6/220

I can’t say I’ve fully located whatever question or point the OP was really trying to pose or make, but I do have one question for him. When you say: “ But I am a big believer in... true freedom of speech (not the cancel culture/woke business that is going on now)”, I take that to mean that you are not in favor of people being made to feel that they need to censor themselves for fear of offending their neighbors/coworkers/employers/customers/etc. If that’s so, then how do you square that with the implication earlier in the post that Pearl Jam should cut back on their anti-Trump speech in order to avoid offending you (or, if you prefer, other less magnanimous conservative fans)? If you’re in favor of Pearl Jam changing their message to avoid offending some of their customers, how is that different than, say, companies pulling their ads from Tucker Carlson’s show to avoid offending some of their customers?Camden 2 2006, Newark 2010, Barclays 2 2013, Central Park 2015, MSG 2 2016, Wrigley 1 2016, Rome 2018, Prague 2018, Asbury Park 2021, EV & Earthlings NYC 1 2022, MSG 2022, Louisville 2022, Dublin 2024, MSG 1 2024, MSG 2 20240

What does "conservative" even mean in 2020? Is it what it meant during the GW Bush and Obama years? Pretend to care about "fiscal responsibility" and the national debt while spending billions on wars and losing revenue with tax cuts to corporations and millionaires? Oppose women's right to choose what happens their bodies? Believing that Church and State should not be separate? Oppose LGBTQ rights? I'm seriously curious what a conservative means now that Trump has essentially taken over the GoP and made its platform completely irrelevant. What about conservatism isn't about simply denying rights and access to wealth to others who aren't white, christian and straight?0
