The clinical study information available at this time does not support the use of hydroxychloroquine for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19. Several hydroxychloroquine clinical studies were unable to find improvements in the treatment of COVID-19, such as to shorten the hospital stay, to lessen the length or severity of the illness, or to reduce the number of deaths. There also are concerns about the possible side effects, such as an irregular heartbeat, and drug interactions that may occur from taking hydroxychloroquine.
Of note, the FDA had approved an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) on March 28, 2020 to allow hydroxychloroquine to treat adults and adolescents who weigh at least 110 pounds (50 kg) and who are hospitalized with COVID-19, but who are unable to participate in a clinical study. However, this recommendation was canceled on June 15, 2020 because clinical studies have not found that the use of hydroxychloroquine has shown substantial benefits for treatment of COVID-19 compared to the risk of potential side effects.

If you were already seriously ill, why would you add a medication which is not going to work but which might cause a fatal arrhythmia?Ledbetterman10 said:I’m saying if everything else failed, I may try it.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

Maybe they’d prescribe it because of some immune system issue that ya have that is being worsened by Covid. And as for side-effects, according to the CDC, the side-effects don’t seem bad at all. Though that might be when prescribed for its traditional purpose: malaria.oftenreading said:If I was seriously ill and my doctor recommended treatment with a medication that has been proven to be ineffective and which has the potential for serious side effects, I'd be pissed.

It has also been proven to be ineffective in treating any immune reactions related to covid.
It is generally fairly well tolerated in healthy people for prophylaxis or treatment of malaria, sure. That's quite a different story than when someone is seriously ill. And you cut and paste didn't include the potentially serious side effects, just the common side effects.
It really makes my blood boil when people are throwing out conspiracy theories and talking about suppression of evidence without being aware of the actual evidence out there. So researchers in France, Brazil, Germany and other countries are also in on this supposed suppression within the US?my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -
If hydroxychoroquine is a miracle cure, then why isn’t the rest of the world using it?
Are they too in on this conspiracy where they are willing to let thousands die rather than acknowledge Trump was right?0 -
Nobody here is saying it's a miracle cure. I'm saying that it might alleviate symptoms for some people, and it wouldn't hurt for a doctor and their patient to at least take a look at it if nothing else is working.Merkin Baller said:If hydroxychoroquine is a miracle cure, then why isn’t the rest of the world using it?

If it’s an effective treatment though, why did the United Kingdom suspend their research of it claiming it was not an effective treatment?Ledbetterman10 said:

When I say it “might” alleviate symptoms for “some” people, that also implies it “might not.” I guess the UK feels the latter if they’ve suspended research.Merkin Baller said:

SMACK MY FUCKING HEAD. manitoba went 2 weeks without a case. then some dipshit visiting eastern canada didn't properly quarantine upon return and now there's another fucking outbreak. i mean, seriously people, what aren't you getting?DewieCox said:Had a friend that manages a restaurant. Guy came in and hung out for hours and made round to various stops in our small townwhile he was waiting for results. Obviously the test came back positive. Protocol was that the 2 waitresses that were around him quite a bit had to get tested and were to quarantine until they received results. Dining room had to close until they could sanitize. Friend, her boss and his wife were going to get tested but her employer didn’t want it going on his insurance.
my brother had some minor symptoms so he rightly declined to come my daughter's birthday celebration. he got tested and quarantined until he got the negative result. this isn't fucking rocket science.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
Sweden's state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell continues to top news sites around the world.Tyska Bild writes that the Swedish model - "no curfew, no facemasks" has been questioned, but that the number of cases of infection has dropped drastically in the past month. And that Germany fears that a second strict "lock down" will be required while Sweden has never had one at all.Regarding mouth protection, Anders Tegnell says that it is "very dangerous to think that they can solve our problems".- The result that can be achieved with the masks is very weak, even with so many people around the world wearing them. It surprises me that we do not have better studies on what effects the masks actually have, says Anders Tegnell to Bild.In countries such as Spain and Belgium, the number of infections has increased despite the population wearing a mouth guard, Tegnell continues."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0
