I love playing music when the kids are around. It's interesting how my 2 year old loves bass and drums. My daughter (6) loves melody and rhyme. It doesn't matter the genre, those aspects catch their attention. It's fun just seeing what clicks - right now it's The Killers. Lots of beats for my boy.

Had a talk with a friend yesterday and it's fascinating and difficult when life long friends begin to change as adulthood continues to evolve. Views, beliefs, hopes and fears slowly erode what that friendship was. I think a lot of friendships when we are young are based on circumstance and continue to hold due to nostalgia. It's oftentimes difficult when you realize if you met a friend for the first time today you wouldn't be friends. It's weird. It's sad.

I have loved U2 my entire life but I haven't actively listened to them in quite some time. I leave the Stones, Beatles, Who and a few others for long periods but they were soundtracks to the world at large. U2 was something else, it felt like mine and I rarely go back. Maybe a track or two but never full blown. If I listen it's Achtung Baby. But even then it's been quite awhile.

One interesting thing to come out of Covid for me is that I'm reading again. I've always been a voracious reader but kids really take away my ability to dig in...this is the most I've read in 6 years. Not a bad feeling.

Can't remember the last time I had some good garage tv to binge watch. Marvel's Agents of Shield is no masterpiece but it's sci-fi glory

I like The Foo Fighters, probably love em. Haven't seen them live since they opened up for The Red Hot Chili Peppers and blew them out of the water. When an opening band makes that impression I don't abandon them (My Morning Jacket is another). I don't listen to them that often but I've been digging into their stripped live album Skin & Bones and those songs have legs in the barest setting. That's the hallmark of an excellent band.

So baseball is back and I don't mind not having fans. It doesn't bother me. I thought it would be weird. But baseball is baseball.

Been lucky in all this time that my kids and my wife and I for that matter haven't gotten sick. Today my little guy did some solid vomiting. Pretty sure it's just a bug but the fear is so different now. On another note my aunt is pretty sure she has Covid but her doctor said she doesn't have enough symptoms to get a test. I heard of this happening in April/May but we're in July. It's pretty nuts that they aren't readily available.

I don't know why I'm always surprised by random acts of kindness but I am. I'm also forever grateful. Some people are just beyond generous. What if we all tried one act of selflessness a day? Would it be that hard? Could the world be that much better?

Talk about a wonderful surprise. I know Euro dates aren't a guarantee of life back to normal in 2021 but it gives me hope. Just seeing tour dates, even if they're a year out is wonderful. It could be any band and it would feel special but this is truly amazing. I'm guessing we all sorely missed live music and being around people.

Taylor Swift's new album was co-written and produced by a member of The National. Fascinating sound and the influences are definitely there. Strong song with Bon Iver. It's fairly haunting.

Europe is safely opening and we are now shutting down more. If people could get a clue that would be really nice. I'm as frustrated as anyone but come on, it's upsetting.

This reminds me of people who say stuff like this on twitter and then get told then they should just move to Europe.
But you can't move to Europe. They wont let you in cause we've fumble the handling of this situation so poorly here in the US.

That's the thing man, I'm proud of my heritage. My family has been here since before the Revolutionary War and while I love Europe I don't want to leave. I just lament the fact that we see the world handling things and we're not. I don't think that's anti-American, nor do I feel like it's an aggressive belief, I try not to be antagonistic - it's just reality as I see it.

Dave Grohl gets it, why can't people who enforce things? He wrote a very nice article for The Atlantic on schools in the pandemic.

I've been listening to some really different stuff the last few weeks. Not much PJ at all and I think I Springsteened myself out. I love taking a respite from my go tos.

NBA came back last night and I liked the look. I can't say that I care about pro basketball anymore but they did it right. It wasn't weird. I'll tune in some more just to see how things shake out. And let's face it, baseball probably isn't going to last. Fingers crossed it does.

Like most on the board I grew up loving Radiohead but it's interesting as I've gotten older I just don't listen to as much. When I do, it doesn't stick. Except for OK Computer I'm just not as invested. It's not to say the music doesn't have legs - it does. It's still fresh and groundbreaking. I can't quite explain it but that's when I look at Pearl Jam's staying power and love the band even more.
