Agreed.  I felt like the study commission was weak sauce. I expected more movement this past session.

@pjl44 CDC position on covid immunity:

” An antibody test looks for the presence of antibodies, which are specific proteins made in response to infections. Antibodies can be found in the blood of people who are tested after infection and show that people have had an immune response to the infection. Antibody test results are especially important for detecting previous infections with few or no symptoms.

However, we do not know if the antibodies that result from SARS-CoV-2 infection will provide someone with immunity from a future infection.”

    US passed 80,000 deaths today.

I'm worried about where those numbers will be in a couple of weeks once the extent of opening up is known.

A friend of mine had his parents stuck in Mexico since this started and they just came back this weekend. They had a layover in Dallas and said it almost looked like business as usual in the airport there. Very few masks and gloves and a packed airport and flight. Everyone was given a mask on the flight but once in the air most took off their masks.

    What could go wrong?

Don’t want to sound alarmist but the modeler I heard and from which CNN interviewed has now predicted 137,000 dead by the end of July.

Coronavirus: Industrial animal farming has caused most new infectious diseases and risks more pandemics, experts warn

Industrial animal farming has caused most new infectious diseases in humans in the past decade – and risks starting new pandemics as animal markets have done, experts are warning.

Experts from both the UN and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have pinpointed animals or food of animal origin as a starting point for emerging diseases, such as Covid-19, which has killed more than 270,000 people worldwide.

And a separate report has cautioned that replacing Asia’s open-air slaughter markets with factory farming for meat would create similarly dangerous conditions for highly virulent flu strains to breed.

Aside from the virus, the incidents in Germany are now really worrying.

Many people are already behaving as if nothing has happened.
The craziest conspiracy theories are on the way and are being systematically distributed to set people to fight. The demonstrations are piling up and apparently most of the reasons are weak and people are just rehearsing the uprising.
One group is now called "Resistance".

WTF is wrong with people??? ... as if we weren't already having enough problems. And of course the number of infections increases again. People are just so selfish - and stupid!

I went to Kroger yesterday around 1pm and was shocked at how many people were not wearing masks.  I would put it at 40% without masks.  We are so fucked.

    When you have tremendous leadership.

“With the masks, it’s going to be really a voluntary thing. You can do it, you don’t have to do it. I’m choosing not to do it, but some people may want to do it and that’s OK,” Trump said.

I think a lot of these people are using this as an opportunity to make a statement and show their position.  The people in the "open everything up now" camp won't wear masks to prove their point.  Luckily, in IL, it's required to wear one in stores (I see some smaller stores not enforcing it).  There were people all over Chicagoland protesting this weekend.  The town I live in had roughly a couple hundred people protesting to end the stay at home order.

It truly is sad, kce, when it feels like people are more scary and dangerous than a killer virus.  It's almost as though this huge portion of the human race is hell bent on it's own destruction.  It boggles the mind.

there was a sparsely-attended rally at the manitoba legislature over the weekend, maga types wearing maga hats with "canada" written over top "america". signs of fake news and garbage like that. wanting us to reopen. seriously, we are in phase 1 of reopening, phase 2 is june 1st if everything goes smoothly. and it includes probably larger gatherings being allowed, restaurants being allowed to open to 50 percent capacity.

fuck these losers. going to keep us at phase 1 or all the way back to lockdown if they don't stop this shit.
