They go over-the-top with their touring schedule. As a fan, I'm always down for it of course. But like you said, it has to take it's toll. And I think Kirk said in an interview a few years ago that they have to tour that much because of all the overhead and the amount of folks on the payroll.HughFreakingDillon said:

They need a Pearl Jam-like hiatus. Same here. James has sounded rough in the past few years and the setlist was disappointing. Might just watch the original S&M show instead.eeriepadave said:S&M 2 in theaters tomorrow. This is pretty far from the truth. I thought the setlist flowed nicely. They played atleast one song from every album.given2fly23 said:

S&M 2 was incredible last night. If you’re within driving distance in the next couple days and you’re a Metallica fan just go and see it. You’re in for a treat. The Outlaw Torn is worth the price of admission alone. I wish James the best in rehab.Post edited by SmallestOceans onWorcester1 13, Worcester2 13, Hartford 13, San Diego 13, Los Angeles1 13, Los Angeles2 13

2 nights, 2 unique sets at a few American Rock festivals in the USA during spring of 2020. This was announced today. I find it interesting they commit to these while their lead singer is in rehab.

Watched it Wednesday night. I loved the fans and most of the music. Although some of their stuff really sounds like Manowar - Warriors of the world... For me it doesn’t come close to the original, it kinda lacked the charme. Maybe it was the huge arena or maybe it was just the showiness (is that a word?) of Kirk and LarsSmallestOceans said:

I was sort of half reading through some of the posts on this page. So let me understand this, is James in rehab for a relapse with alcohol?

I thought the same thing, @Ledbetterman10. As a fan reading into the situation that touring was at least a significant if not THE contributor to James's relapse, it makes Pearl Jam's disappearance from the radar all the more understandable. PJ's silent absence at times has been frustrating but Hetfield's situation helps put things in perspective. As artists all of these folks give a tremendous amount of themselves and, unfortunately, the outpouring of self can easily, and oftentimes unknowingly, tip the scales into the 'too much' category. To echo @HughFreakingDillon's point, sounds like the machine Metallica has created might be 'too much'.Ledbetterman10 said:

With the Hardwired tour stretching across three years, it might look like they're always on the road, but they've actually cut their schedule way back already. They do two weeks on, two weeks off, and limit themselves to no more than 50 dates a year.
Of course, if that's still too much for James to handle, they should cut back further. The "Metallica machine" was definitely a contributing factor to his problems back in the day. But a lot has changed since his first rehab stint.Post edited by EdLaw onAnd I planted my bolo knife in the neck of mad John Finn. I took his wretched life.
