The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee warned a small group of well-connected constituents three weeks ago to prepare for dire economic and societal effects of the coronavirus, according to a secret recording obtained by NPR.

The remarks from U.S. Sen. Richard Burr were more stark than any he had delivered in more public forums.

On Feb. 27, when the United States had 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19, President Trump was tamping down fears and suggesting that the virus could be seasonal.

"It's going to disappear. One day, it's like a miracle. It will disappear," the president said then, before adding, "it could get worse before it gets better. It could maybe go away. We'll see what happens."

On that same day, Burr attended a luncheon held at a social club called the Capitol Hill Club. And he delivered a much more alarming message.

People are wondering if this is insider trading and if it's illegal.

Whoa that’s disturbing I’m not sure what to believe these days ☹️

I just got out of my GP's office and she reckons this will take 6 months and unless you are elderly and have a pre-existing condition there is no need to panic.

please please tell me she didn't say that.  do not listen to her and maybe find a new doctor
    Why?

    Em, I love the photo!

Here's our self care outing pic of the day. Was nice, the kid kicked out the PJams with the top down finally! We hit different beaches daily (which are not crowded).

That the smallest lake around that warms up early where I like to ski! The white stuff is snow.

    Peace!

Inspiration to get out more, Tish!  We took a walk up our road yesterday and it was great.  It was the firs time I left the house Since Sunday.  Getting some exercise and fresh air is a must!

Yay! Glad to hear, Mr. B. Get your butt moving again!!! I gotta keep the kid from getting too cooped up while we can!!

Today my airline finally allowed me 24 months from date of purchase to postpone. I finally cancelled. Initially, they wanted me to fly by mid-September and then a couple of days ago, they conceded to end of December. The carrier adopted a no refund policy as of last night.

I till don't see what closing schools will do when kids are not in danger of dying from it(?)

Send all kids to a Camp Crystal Lake type scenario where they can all get sick and live through it and be immune -- and not affect the rest of the population when they come back.
You're better than this. Cordoning off children to introduce them all to a disease "not typically" fatal to young people is wrong on so many levels, and verges on human experimentation.
Seems like infectious disease physicians are on a similar page as me:

    ***

[infectious disease physicians] Jonas Ahl believes that Sweden has so far made the right corona decision.

Incredibly worthwhile if half the population becomes immune

    - It is incredibly tough for the Public Health Authority to stand up. The politician-driven decisions that we see in other countries I feel are partly populist and not based on facts. Our Swedish politicians have been brave here and leaned against the expertise, he says.

    - The pressure on them to act is great, but it is probably wise to act more sensibly. In a free society we cannot keep the cases to zero because then we have to weld the doors of people like they did in China and our society does not work. We must focus on protecting the old.

The infectious doctor believes it is good if Sweden's young population can gain some immunity while the old ones protect themselves. For the virus will remain forever.

    - If schools close now, what happens when they open again? Should we close the community again this fall? It is incredibly worthwhile if half the population is immune to the fall.

And with that, I'm A-OK with not being *reading your post* "better than this".

Cool have to do what you have too sometimes..
Nice set up. I live in a small apartment in NYC, so I am really missing my gym. I just ordered one set of dumbbells from Amazon that arrived yesterday, and have been running outside (which I will keep doing until they tell me I can't). If we can't keep exercising we are all going to come out of this looking like veal.

Thank you everyone for the kind words.  My wife knew them a lot better (lived next door to them for close to ten years in first marriage) and she is really really hurting.  It was such a close knit family, they can't grieve together, they can't be together in any capactiy, there is no funeral as of now.  The rest of the family is just waiting to see if they develop symptoms while in lock down.
Took a nice 2.25 mile jog today...cleared my mind.  Good stuff.
Can't wait to listen to some new pj, seriously this band is really helping.  Channel 22 is god like lol.  Stay healthy everyone!

Lowest common denominator in these cases - people eating meat and our/their unbalanced relationship with animals.

The SARS outbreak in Asia in 2003 seems to have begun with the delicacy of palm grove, a red-gray cat-like animal. MERS, with a mortality rate of over 30% that has plagued the Arabian Peninsula since 2013 in various outbreaks, seems to come from the human relationship to camels. Both SARS and MERS are coronavirus, now under good control. But here we are again - with a new virus from the same family, which is also believed to be derived from man's itchy contact with animals. In the case of covid-19, the researchers' hypotheses point to a fish market. Studies also indicate that bats, with their special immune system, are a central carrier of the very disease-causing coronavirus.

some images are disturbing but I believe this is a very objective 8 minute doc on why these viruses keep starting in China:

Doesn't make it true. And if it was, what is the difference in eating a bat over anything else?

Bats are known carriers of diseases. In Australia we are warned against their droppings and horses have died from that.
