The US has certainly bungled the whole testing issue.
The bungling started when the US refused to use perfectly adequate test kits developed elsewhere, like Germany, and decided it needed to develop its own, which of course took time. And then they bungled the first kit.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

JPPJ84 said:@brianlux if you need sanitizer at work you can mix it yourself. The WHO has recipes. You take Isopropyl (at least 70%) and can mix it with hydrogen peroxide (against germs) and glycerol (keeps your hands hydrated). So it’d be a good start to get Isopropyl
Good idea, JPP, thanks.

Your dinner is worse than Corona
The SARS outbreak in Asia in 2003 seems to have begun with the delicacy of palm grove, a red-gray cat-like animal. MERS, with a mortality rate of over 30% that has plagued the Arabian Peninsula since 2013 in various outbreaks, seems to come from human association with camels. Both SARS and MERS are coronavirus, now under control. But here we are again - with a new virus from the same family, which is also believed to be derived from man's meddlesomeness contact with animals. In the case of covid-19, the researchers' hypotheses point to a fish market. Studies also indicate that bats, with their special immune system, are a central carrier of the very disease-causing coronavirus.
/.../
I often think about how strange it is to sit in special STRAMA rounds in the hospital and carefully go through antibiotic selection for the patients with infection specialists, to then go off to the staff dining room and squeeze in a halloumi casserole or pork chop. Why don't we talk about this in healthcare? Why does STRAMA chirp "Eat more Swedish meat (we have the strictest rules on antibiotics in animals in the world)!" like another meat commercial?
Enter the outspoken professor of infectious diseases again: "It is a kind of rape on one of medicine's greatest miracles."It is the hardhitting and most powerful I have ever heard someone say on the issue. Björn Olsen continues in the same interview:“One thing we can do, which we actually have to do, is agree on an absolute stop for antibiotic use in meat production, agriculture, everything like that. Antibiotics are exclusive to a single animal species on earth, and it is human. And it should be used for the weakest people, those who really need it. Otherwise, this will go to hell. ”By 2050, fifty million people are estimated to die from antimicrobial resistance - more than cancer and diabetes together, according to a report commissioned by the British government. It is also likely far far more lives than covid-19 will harvest. The purpose of this text is not to inflame dystopian thoughts in the midst of people's concerns and confusion over hand washing (do it more) and mouth protection (don't use it), but to point out the connections. Coronavirus and influenza will come and go. If we are really unlucky, we can suffer from something that is combined immensely contagious and deadly. The best thing we can do to increase the chance of our own species' survival is not just to research new drugs and not to spread infection. We have to stop with dirty animal markets. We have to shut down industrial factory breeding. We have to stop wasting antibiotics. Perhaps through the simplest strategy of all: Just leave the animals in peace.

I can chant USA as a perjorative every day if I want to, and twice on Sundays. And since it's Sunday..... USA! USA! USA!

I'm not into chanting USA as either a jingoist or nationalist, nor in a hateful mocking manner like yours. But, yeah, you can chant. No one will stop you. But so what? You think all Americans are alike? Think again.

1. Chanting USA is common at all political rallies, even Democratic ones. You'll hear it at the convention this summer. We also chant the same at Olympic events, as I'm sure you have Canadian pride.
2. More importantly, the mindset of that the Republicans own such a chant and own patriotism in general is core to Trump's strategy. He seeks to divide us with patriotism. He says all the time that a shot at him is a shot that USA because he IS the USA. He's not. So for many of us down here, it's really important that we don't give yield patriotism to him. Democrats already yielded Jesus, which bothers me to this day. And now his teachings are distorted constantly.0 -
