    People.  Stop buying the friggin dust masks.  Workers need them to stay safe. 
    Right on.  The masks do little or nothing to keep someone from getting the virus and are need by health care workers.  People buying up the masks are shooting themselves in the foot.  

    I need the damn things for my construction crew.  

    You mentioned dust masks.  If it's just dust, can they use bandanas or other cloth?  The greatest need for surgical masks right now is for health care workers, is it not?

    We use the N95 because it stops most solid particles like concrete dust.  This is why we use them.

    The rest of the world can use their bandannas.  

    Again, let the people that actually need them to get them.
    Not to be a dick, but you probably should have seen this coming and grabbed masks at least a month ago. The writing was on the wall.

    So if your guys don't have the proper PPE what are you going to do now? Asking out of real curiosity, I'm a tradesman myself. 
    I did not see this coming a month ago.  No one did.  Never saw this before for any outbreak.  People are just freaking out about this one.

    For the most part my guys use HEPA vacs and Hilti self contained drills but hey aren't 100%(even though Hilti says they are) so I like for them to use an N95 mask.  The fitted masks are overkill for our application.

    We have the masks but they weren't on site, I went to purchase some locally for the time being and they were gone.

    You being in the business then I'm sure you know that the men tell you what they need when they run out and not pre plan it...
    I think a lot of people saw it coming, but I get your point. Hope your guys stay safe.

    There have been reports here on people stocking up canned foods, headache pills and stuff.

    But other than the pasta section being pretty empty, soap, headache pills and toilet paper was still in stock.

    I've talked with two different people this week....one is a lab technician and another a surgeon.

    Both say that this virus is nothing to be real concerned about.  The surgeon told me that there are likely hundreds of people that have had the virus and just considered it an upper respiratory cold.

    I believe them based only on the fact that it makes me feel better.

    You do know that if people get sick they can’t go to work. And you can’t get raw materials. And then if they can’t get masks they can’t work safely. There is a risk to good not being available.  It’s weird to panic and hoard but the reality is manufacturing will slow or stop in some cases. I can tell you of a few products that won’t be on the shelf if this keeps going as it is due to raw material availability. A global economy and business is good until a global crisis.

    I’m no doctor, but I’ve read and listen to them. I do think that for the normal population this isn’t a huge deal other than the fear of the unknown. But for the at risk population it’s an enormously big deal

    - It spreads easily
    - There is no vaccine for it
    - The mortality so far has been 3,4 % 

    Maybe you shouldn't worry. But at the same time I'm happy countries are acting on it to not have it spread like wildfire.

    I think you're right, Cincy.  For most people, this is probably no worse than all the other viruses that circulate around every year.  And for the more at risk population...

    COVID19 is harmful to elderly and people with bad immune systems.  Almost all of us will be fine.  We still need to try and stop the spread of it though.

    Yes. If your immune system is compromised or have any chronic lung issues this could be a very big deal. Both my father and mother are high risk, father has COPD and mother has Lupus that has damaged her lungs.

    So yes, if you are young and healthy this won't be a big deal to your personal health.  But if it gets carried away, most of us will know someone who will be impacted by this in a bad way.

    It seems highly irresponsible of medical professionals to tell anyone that there isn't anything to be concerned about. We have a novel virus with no vaccine, no specific antiviral treatment, and are just at the beginning of community spread in this country. If nothing else, the concern is containment to minimize transmission. 

    Reminder that even if you are not in a high risk category, you likely have family members who are. So if you get it and have no underlying medical issues, it will probably be like a mild flu. You'll be fine. If you have no relatives and live alone, no big deal. But if you get it, and then pass it along to a loved one with a compromised immune system, someone elderly like a parent or someone pregnant, then you've just put them in harm's way.
