If it were any of you posting from that ship, you’d be screaming for the ACLU and complaining about illegal detention, particularly if you were a “citizen.” Think there’s still an open bar?
I got chickenpox at the ripe age of 34. I was all set to go on a plane across the country to a business function that was mandatory.
Had to cancel the trip because I had a highly contagious infection and didn't want to spread it knowingly so I stayed home. Nobody dies from getting chicken pox that I've heard but I stayed home to stop the spread.
The people on that ship need to understand that them staying put helps stop the spread of something that can actually kill people.
It's an inconvenience, yes but it can also be life saving.
I’m assuming you were home, which I’ll also assume is larger than 150-220 square feet, the average size of a cruise ship cabin? I’ll also assume you might not have shared your square footage with a spouse or travel companion and that you were also able to do the other vagaries of life, like pay your bills, care for your pets, maybe even cook and clean, take in the mail, water your plants?
I was not on a ship, correct but I understand about taking one for the team so to speak. Thanks for using my morale compass against me, nice touch.
I am not worried about contacting the virus should I get it, I'll survive, it's the other people that can't fight off the virus that I would be afraid for. It wouldn't sit well with me knowing I spread something that could potentially kill someone.
I'd love for you to be posting from that ship as your attitude seems to be, "whats the big deal, I stayed home for a week." You were home. With chicken pox. Should I call you a hero for not flying? The bottom line is that the current US government is incapable of dealing with the situation and by now, they should have had a plan for docking, removing, testing and quarantining those passengers requiring it, whether at home or collectively. Canada seems ready and able to remove their citizens. Will Team Trump Treason prevent them from doing so because he doesn't want to look stupid?
You would only spread something if you disobeyed the direction of the medical personnel and went out and about on your daily routine. Are you advocating for those people who are self-isolating to be collectively held? Maybe under armed guard?
Your last sentence grabbed me the most. Man you really go off the fucking rails sometimes...
I also said I’d be mad at them (govt) fornot having a plan.
Should I not be mad then if I was placed in a hospital under quarantine or that’s acceptable?
I'm not sure what you're worried about. From our very stable geniuses twitter:
So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!
You tell me? Personally, I'd rather be in a hospital knowing I'm getting medical care, if needed/required, rather than being stuck on a cruise ship with no end in site and no information about my immediate future, and worried about all the shit I have at home to deal with, you know, mortgage payments, car payments, utility bills, because I'm sure the Team Trump Treason Response Team has that part figured out too. Or, allow me to self-isolate at home.
Some people's defense of this idiot in chief is astounding.
I'm not defending Trump though. Just stating that I thought it was a good idea for them to be on the ship. Amazing how Trump laways creeps into everything you do. It must be quite maddening...
Someone posted that the crew is sick. That I did not know. That changes it a bit then since the people could not very well fend for themselves. I can change my mind after hearing more facts.

Wow, nice. People that take cruises are lazy. Got it.
Eh, I wouldn't say that necessarily. Maybe they are hard workers, dedicated parents, committed community members... But their vacation tastes... 🤮

The ship is docking in Oakland today. It's the right thing to do. It's what the experts believe should happen. This is all about Trump's priorities in his discussion last week. He also lied saying that anyone that wanted a test, can get a test. That is 100% false.
1) Cruises can be fantastic vacations. 2) I honestly can't believe we didn't learn the lesson from the other cruise ship. I can't believe I agree with halifax...but there should have been a plan in place once we saw what happened in Japan. A plan to get people off the boat into other isolation areas. Still sucks for them, but you reduce the size of the overall group. You don't rely on cruise staff to all of a sudden become medical professionals and wear and manage their PPE properly.
I've heard interviews with many people in isolation and it seems that there are so many minor cases of this. This is just about everywhere already, we just aren't testing for it. Most of the people interviewed, despite the news anchors best attempts to make it a dramatic thing, talk about having a minor cough and getting tylenol and gatorade as they only "medicine".

I went on one once. If you like to eat and drink then they are great.
Only reason I went is because 50 of my family members went.

Wasn't my thing at all.
I've never been. The thought of those small cabins is enough for me. I need room and I don't like a lot of people around me.
Trump telling us, yet again, that he doesn't give a shit about people. Speaking about the ship off the shore in Oakland...
“I’d rather have the people stay, but I’d go with them. I told them to make the final decision.”
“I would rather because I like the numbers being where they are,” Trump continued. “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault. And it wasn't the fault of the people on the ship either, okay? It wasn't their fault either and they're mostly Americans. So, I can live either way with it. I'd rather have them stay on, personally.”
If the ship is indeed infected, why wouldn't you have them stay on the ship? Keeping them on there would quarantine them successfully.
Not sure why this is an issue?
Agreed. Keep them on the damn ship.
If they’re being cared for then what’s the difference where they’re quarantined? I agreee
In what world would cruise ship health care be better than that of the California medical system? In what world should the CDC not be prepared to handle this situation? In what world would you think that your parents or children should be left quarantined on a cruise ship rather than getting care as a US citizen?
Have you all checked your empathy at the door?
I articulated myself 100% wrong, I agree that they should be quarantined somewhere on US soil. Just keep them quarantined on the ship until those facilities are ready.
The ship is docking today. My point is that Trump ONLY cares about the politics of the matter, not the citizens.
Yup I agree with you. I was 100% wrong in my statement. Have facilities ready and take the US citizens off the ship. I can't even imagine being locked in my cabin for days/weeks.
But in't that the same off the ship? Aren't people still just locked in their rooms? I remember that the case for the first few dozen cases, they were locked in a hospital room, not allowed to leave or have interaction. So what is the difference if it is there or a boat?
There are two things at play here. I posted the quote because I think it shows a window into Trump's thinking. He isn't talking about the spread, he isn't talking about healthcare, he's not talking about citizens. He's talking about the stats and his 'numbers'.
Second, I suppose that one could reasonably argue for keeping them on the ship. Two things:
1. They are citizens and we should make every effort to get them onshore and cared for and/or quarantined in a way fitting of the wealthiest nation the world has ever seen. 2. The majority of the sick people are the actual crew.. the ones that feed, clean and keep people in their cabins. We need to get our citizens off the ship.
I don't see what being onshore will make any difference in terms of care and health. Its a quarantine for potential exposure, right? Maybe for their own comfort, but not in terms of care. SO remove those infected so they can be monitored closely and quarantine the rest. But I think I was mistaken, I compared these with previously quarantined people in a hospital. Those were people who did have the virus, not just people who potentially came in contact with someone.
I could see both sides. I think just transporting these people home and asking them to stay there introduces a big risk. Are we going to hire private shuttles to prevent anyone from coming in contact with them if we let them off the ship? Or just let them call an Uber to get home, or ride the public shuttle to the parking kot?
On the other hand I think the fear of this virus is grossly over-hyped. But if I am wrong and every measure to prevent its spread should be taken, and that includes a mandatory and enforced quarantine of a whole ship, then staying on the boat seems most practical and effective.

You should try it. I thought it was great. The rooms aren't any different than a small hotel room in Chicago.
Great food....casinos....the staff treat you like royalty. I would definitely do it again.

St. Louis coronavirus: Family breaks quarantine attending Villa father-daughter dance, prompting school closure
FRONTENAC, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The family of the St. Louis County woman who tested positive for COVID-19 broke quarantine and attended a father-daughter school dance Saturday evening at Villa Duchesne, County Executive Sam Page said.
Page said the family was asked to self-quarantine on Thursday, March 5, after the young woman called the county's health hotline and told them her symptoms. However, Page said the father took his other daughter to a father-daughter dinner dance with Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School (VDOH) at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton on Saturday.
In a letter to parents, VDOH officials said the father and daughter didn't learn of the diagnosis until after they were already at the dance. They left the dance immediately after.
Sunday afternoon, Page said the coronavirus patient has been acting responsibly and maturely but her father “did not act consistently with the health department’s instructions and instead ... he decided to take his daughter to a school function."
Page said the county learned about the father-daughter dance on Sunday and officials told the man "to stay home or they will issue a formal quarantine that will require him and the rest of his family to stay home by the force of law."
Early Sunday evening, John Burroughs School officials sent a letter to parents saying the father and sister of the infected woman attended an event at the home of a Burroughs family on Saturday before going to the dance. Several other people went to the same home that same night. The school said all those people have been contacted.

I’m no doctor either but I started taking 1-3 drops of oil of oregano and haven’t caught a cold in 2 years. I would be good for 2-3 colds per year before then.
Oil of oregano? No shit? You must be talian.
I sure am. But it was recommended to me years ago by a Greek (still not surprising). And it’s been a life saver. I’ll never go without it. I’m not usually a believer in stuff like that but I’ve 100% saw the difference.
The virus hitchhikes a ride...on people. I'm doing all I can to not give it a ride.
Cuomo is on TV talking about it right now letting people know that they are overreacting.
Who are these people that are overreacting and how are they overreacting? I'm just curious. I think the business world is reacting very aggressively. I don't mean the markets, I'm talking about cancelled conferences, eliminating even domestic travel, etc. Maybe they are a bit?

I'm surprised he didn't have it forcefully towed out to sea and scuttled.

They were given a choice though, weren’t they? Would you have recommended they have been picked up and detained somewhere? You never answered my question regarding mandatory hospitalization or self-isolation. Again, if your ass was on the boat, I could only imagine your posts.
And to your bolded part, and people thought it was Obama setting up the involuntary detention camps. In a red state no less.

I've been in situations before beyond my control and rode it out knowing that it was only temporary and things would go back to normal. My 10 weeks in Iraq is a testament to that type of thinking. I would be fine on that ship.
I didn't see you ask a question about hospitalization. You mentioned wanting to be able to go to one but nothing about it being mandatory? Re ask the question please.
Being court ordered to stay home to stop the spread of a virus during the incubation period IN YOUR OWN HOME, shouldn't be that hard to do.

I’m washing my hands for 20 seconds minimum, using copious amounts of hand sanitizer and avoiding being in close contact with people, particularly if they’re coughing and/or sneezing. Would love to see Team Trump Treason actually become presidential but at this point, it’s never going to happen.
Wow. Chill out. People like you are gonna lock us in for four more years.

Excuse you. Yes, all that you do is Trump Madness.
Glad to see that you are finally washing your hands, too bad it took this for you to do what you should have been doing all along.
All that I do? I cannot believe the level of excusing going on for an Administration as corrupt and incapable as this one. Just wait until the real disaster or crises hits. Or go speak with the residents of Puerto Rico, you know, those other Americans?
My life style, other than being more diligent than previously, hasn’t changed. Except Tempo’s my hero now.
Here ya go @Halifax2TheMax Page said the county learned about the father-daughter dance on Sunday and officials told the man "to stay home or they will issue a formal quarantine that will require him and the rest of his family to stay home by the force of law."

1-2 drops daily. Ramp it up a little if you’re around sick peoole during cold season. It’s strong and gross, but you’ll get used to it.
Only one to two drops? Wow! Do you put it in water or juice?
It’s strong and gross. So in a little water and shoot it down. Not something you want to savor.
Will give it a try, Nick, thanks!
Like Ive told others, I’m skeptical of almost everything. But this stuff works for me. 100%. 2-5 colds per year without fail. Last time I got sick was December 2018 (jinx?) hope it works for you as well.

Only reason I went is because 50 of my family members went.
Wasn't my thing at all.

No thanks.
I'm a travel snob though, I don't even approve of resort vacations.

I'm surprised he didn't have it forcefully towed out to sea and scuttled.
