They should take 3 years off and then come back and melt our faces with 4+ hour shows.

    Mike today in RollingStone….

Q: The band’s last big U.S. tour was a short ballpark run in 2018. Are you booking dates for 2020?

A: Nothing as of yet. I mean, I hope we can go out. I’m ready to play some music again with my guys and go out and do it. But we don’t have any plans as of yet. Right now, I’m doing stuff like this cool Johnny Cash thing I got to be involved in, and trying to keep busy. I’ve been helping my friends in this band Thunderpussy write some songs and I’m helping them with their second record right now.

I usually feel they’re being coy, not wanting to give anything away. Sadly, I feel Mike is telling the truth....no plans.

But didn't they also say something similar a month or so before Lightning Bolt was announced?

The optimist says Mike is referring to no US shows being booked as the question asks about US.  That’s what Dimi has indicated, and does not address whether European shows are planned.

The pessimist says uh-oh he means nothing is planned anywhere and all these Europe rumours might be false.

    The realist says .... DIMI?

Are you "booking dates" not are you "booking US dates. "

If I were being an optimist I'd say he asked the interviewer to use the specific term "booking" so he could technically say no about any tour question.

To imply they'd travel to Europe in an election year and not play in the states to try to generate change in the White House does not seem plausible.

I'd be more bummed that he was indifferent about any new album and "pretended" not to know it's been almost 7 years since the last.

Your logic is sound.  Let’s hope either the interview took place long before it was published, or that Dimi can say something to help us interpret the comments.

What did you expect? That he spills the EU tour? There‘s a reason it‘s not announced yet. Contracts, negotiations, money.
  • He could have said something a bit more vague, like we don’t have any definitive plans.  Or he could have dodged and just said he’s focused on other stuff right now.

the question about this interview is not the mike dont talk about tours. the problem is that he said that the new album is not ready at all even if someone continue to tell the opposite...

I work as a music journalist, one thing needs to be said: never believe in things that musicians say in interviews / from the stage.
Once talked with Maynard James Keenen and all his responses were: yes, right, I can't say. My point is that it's just smoke&mirrors.

ive been to philly (2013) and to a bunch of european shows. id say all european shows would be as a bottom worst-case-senario baseline on the level of philly. I always mix up the philly 2013 and the amsterdam 2014 shows - maybe in part because of the similiar crowd vibes(?).

but spain/portugal/italy I presume is closest to that loud south american vibe.

i found the italian crowd in 2006 to be pushy and kind of shitty though. but so was the crowd in Berlin in 2009. So that might have to with other things than what country the show is in.

EDIT: ive never met anyone who had a bad experince at Globen, Stockholm 2012 - maybe that says something.

remember the crowd at philly being cirtious (spelling?) too.
