Three years ago tomorrow began the last 2 night MSG stand.
Who knew it would be the only 2 Pearl Jambi shows there in the twenty teens.
Talk about not milking that cash cow.0 -

Wow, you're right.
I thought they did it in 2013, so I looked it up and that was when MSG was undergoing renovations, so they did Barclay's Center instead. In a way, you're right, but it's the same metro area and 99.9% of the same people would have been there.
Since 2013, they did Wrigley five times and Fenway four times.
My, how the times have changed.Post edited by Lost In Ohio onPresidential Advice from President-Elect Mike McCready: "Are you getting something out of this all encompassing trip?"0 -

Wrigley five concerts = 210,000 tickets soldFenway four concerts = 144,000 tickets sold
that is equal to approximately 20 arena shows.... and don't forget the 4 posters per show and merch madness that occurs at these stadium shows...
get used to the stadium shows in large markets

A good hypotheses but if true perhaps they should retire.
If they were to play 20k arena shows focused in the bigger cities and play multiple nights each stop...
And price it as a premium band that only occasionally tours...
They can maximize their revenue and minimize their cost.
Seeing dots on a stage every tour for here on out is going to get minimally interesting fairly soon.

Quick quiz: Name 3 of the top 5 fastest sellout events in Wrigley history? Seattle was also a huge success, as was Boston. I think even with a new album, depending on timing of release, stadiums are here to stay. Allows let them to maximize reach while minimizing dates and the wear/tear on voice/bodies, and keeps the merch machine running. I am not pro-stadium, but I am pro whatever keeps these guys playing together and brining us all to one place to celebrate their music and rock our asses off.0 -
If there is a new record, I do not think that necessarily means stadium shows. They played arenas for both backspacer and lighting bolt.0
-
If stadium shows become the norm it may become a problem. Until then each of these ballpark shows has felt like an event, and each has been awesome in its own way.

Fenway at 36k capacity is not much larger than a large arena. To get in the extra 16K fans, stadiums are extremely expensive to stage for a concert and for 2 Fenway dates it required about 5 days of commitment. That hardly sounds cost effective.
I'd further contend since those extra 16k fans in the upper deck or in the back behind a post are paying the same price as fans in the first 30 rows, we either are watching fans systematically getting ripped off or observing socialism flourish in rock touring.0 -
I don't assume that stadiums will be the norm. It makes sense for non-album/tour years, but if they're doing a full arena tour, stadiums don't make as much sense. As someone said above, the stadiums were "events."
