I don;t fear her...I fear some of her ideas, especially her ideas of data and fact from time to time.  But I'm interested to see how she does and how she grows.  But not someone I'm aligned with politically very much at all.

I don't think conservatives fear her. I think they resent that a 29 year old attractive women, not on their side, has an opinion and a platform.  

I think it's just the squeaky wheel gets the grease....she is new and outspoken.  And she is politically opposite on everything.  

I also don't think as many people are attacking her through stupid pictures, videos, etc as some are making it out to be.

I don't think it's junk that they are frightened by her. I don't agree with the reasons though.
Republicans were frightened that Bernie Sanders got as close to president as he did. He would frighten them just as much as Alexandria does. And he's about as opposite to young attractive female as you can possibly get.
They, myself included, are frightened what a socialist agenda can do to this country. I am scared of anyone who seriously wants to have free college and runs for office. We can't even fund k-12 properly and get that right, so lets throw in an expensive 4 year college for free on top of that? Schools are underfunded, just my state alone is behind billions of dollars just to update facilities. Many schools in my city don't have air conditioning and students have to test in 90 degree rooms without air. I got a $400 raise as a teacher last year, then days later they announce cost of health insurance is going up $50 a month and they will be taking an extra 1% out for our pension. Our salaries are actually going down, not up.  Many teachers are literally paid at below poverty level and have to work second jobs because of that. We don't even fund the education we already have, why expand it until we figure that out? So yes, I am frightened by people who don't understand those issues and want to expand the problem. I also have serious questions how they would accomplish this. Education is already underfunded, by a lot, college is far more expensive to run that a high school. You cant "just pay for it." I don't care what they look like or what sex they are.

I think you're grossly undervaluing the opinion from the article and the points it brings up, and I'm really not sure why.

I guess it depends how much you want them to be right. 

if the article had shown some research by more than just one person, then that's different. no one in the scientific community gives any credence to anything until it's peer viewed, so yeah, until then.....suspect. 

The editorial was hit-and-miss.  I like the point that she's almost the 180 to Trump...anti-establishment, breaks rules, appeals to emotions.  The idea that conservatives respond to fear more than others was kinda silly.  In any case, it was interesting but didn't' really prove much of anything.

This stuff is very nuanced and we seem to be arguing "everyone that hates her is a bigot" vs. "It's all about policy and she'd be treated the same way if she were a 50-year-old white male."  Neither of those black/white stances are true.  Part of the truth is that most Americans hate liberals and she's the most liberal (or at least the most famously liberal) representative in the House.  I have some conservative (Trump-hating) friends that probably don't like her because her fiscal ideas don't feel sustainable.  Hell, I am not sold on her myself for that reason.

But if you really don't think that ethnicity, age, sex (and the future those things points to) is part of this, I don't know what to tell you.  There's plenty that points to fear, not specifically of her, but of what she represents for the future.  Yes, liberal and unapologetic.  But also all these things we pretend not to care about are a part of the mix.  And we've been given plenty of reason to believe this.

Fear of losing the White, Christian, male power structure.

You will not replace us.

If you don't think some of today's populist movement is driven by white nationalism and fear that different types of people will be a) in power and b) the majority of our population, I don't know what to tell you.  Does that mean everyone who's not a fan of this one legislator is a racist?  No.  But I do believe she represents a future that many people fear.  

Black --- Gray Area --- White.
The internet only really talks with two of these in mind.

no one is disputing that those sentiments exist: we all know they do. we are just disputing that every single criticism of female POC is based on that. 

I don't believe that anyone has suggested that.

I guess I should take their expertise in the area of how brains work over a qualified expert. Just cause it doesn't feel right to them. 

so a neuroscientist can't be biased and come a conclusion he wishes to? like I said, scienctific findings require consensus.
