And I doubt a new congressman would be called "little boy." But there would be equally derogorative terms (actually, far worse I imagine) used if anyone as far right as she is left joined. She has been farther left than many and most before her. Imagine if some 28 year old male was equally right, and openly campaigned heavily for outlawing abortions and so on. There wouldn't be name calling on him?

Care to explain? What did I say that was not true? She wasn't popular? She didn't campaign on farther left views? And what about what she did makes me white?
I’m guessing cincy’s post was just missing the /s.

Lol at the idea of white men being sick of hearing about sexism
When it doesn't apply, why is that funny? And what does white have to do with sexism?
You can honestly say the -ism card isn't overplayed? I'm not saying those things don't exist, but they are definitely overplayed.
Since I’m this context we’re talking about the GOP and their supporters, we are mostly taking about white men.

There’s a whole bunch of extremely conservative white dudes in the house. They call themselves the freedom caucus. Now show me all the derogatory comments from the left regarding them. With links.
You missed one of my points. Alexandria puts herself out there a lot. She's done a lot of interviews and is in the public eye more than most who just took office. Actually, I can't name a single other person outside of my state who took office. She's gotten a lot of good publicity. Anyone who does that will also receive bad publicity.
I'm sure there's a lot of things said about the freedom caucus, but no not as much.  but that wasn't my point. They don;t put themselves out there, they aren't on 60 minutes, they aren't in the public as much as she has.
I do think sexism exists in government, I would imagine it is probably a lot harder for a woman to get started than a man. I never said otherwise.
What I did say is I don't think the comments we see towards Alexandria right now are mostly sexist based. Anyone in the spotlight that much will have negative things said about them. You couldn't be critical of Obama without being called racist. You couldn't dislike Hilary without being called sexist. When the fake nudes surfaced that was said to be an attack by the republicans, when nearly every famous woman under 40 has that. I just think political views play a bigger role than those things. Its not always racism and sexism. She is outspoken and has extreme views. That attracts a lot of attention.
She’s the youngest woman ever elected to the House of Representatives. What is she supposed to do, hide in the kitchen? She got elected in a mostly minority, medium income, liberal district. Are her ideas radical? To the white establishment, sure. To a diverse, economically challenged, environmentally aware and socially media conscious constituency, probably not. They fear her because she’s going to challenge them forcefully and directly on their policies and they’re going to have to defend their positions, positions that have failed the average voter, don’t align with their values, when explained, and the planet. Millineals have a different set of values, both morally and politically than the old, white, repub party lead by Team Trump Treason.

If you want to “beat” her, beat her on policy debate and not derision and derogatory social media attacks. But I think that’s all the repubs have, as the mid terms illustrated.

“Well, I think it only has been radicals who have changed this country,” she said. “Abraham Lincoln made the radical decision to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. Franklin Delano Roosevelt made the radical decision to embark on establishing programs like Social Security.”

To that, Cooper asked: “Do you call yourself a radical?”

“Yeah,” she replied. “If that’s what radical means, call me a radical.”

what a bunch of junk....I like that this neuroscientist states "I think"...clearly just an idiot with an agenda again,

I don;t fear her...I fear some of her ideas, especially her ideas of data and fact from time to time.  But I'm interested to see how she does and how she grows.  But not someone I'm aligned with politically very much at all.

I don't think it's just at all. Though I don't know why Cincy took it as being about him. The article doesn't mean to say that every single Republican-voting white male in the country is having that reaction.

I don't think it's junk that they are frightened by her. I don't agree with the reasons though.
Republicans were frightened that Bernie Sanders got as close to president as he did. He would frighten them just as much as Alexandria does. And he's about as opposite to young attractive female as you can possibly get.
They, myself included, are frightened what a socialist agenda can do to this country. I am scared of anyone who seriously wants to have free college and runs for office. We can't even fund k-12 properly and get that right, so lets throw in an expensive 4 year college for free on top of that? Schools are underfunded, just my state alone is behind billions of dollars just to update facilities. Many schools in my city don't have air conditioning and students have to test in 90 degree rooms without air. I got a $400 raise as a teacher last year, then days later they announce cost of health insurance is going up $50 a month and they will be taking an extra 1% out for our pension. Our salaries are actually going down, not up.  Many teachers are literally paid at below poverty level and have to work second jobs because of that. We don't even fund the education we already have, why expand it until we figure that out? So yes, I am frightened by people who don't understand those issues and want to expand the problem. I also have serious questions how they would accomplish this. Education is already underfunded, by a lot, college is far more expensive to run that a high school. You cant "just pay for it." I don't care what they look like or what sex they are.

I guess it depends how much you want them to be right.

if the article had shown some research by more than just one person, then that's different. no one in the scientific community gives any credence to anything until it's peer viewed, so yeah, until then.....suspect.

because it's presented with such an obvious bias.
Well that's why it's an opinion piece. But much of it points out some real hard truths as well, so I think calling it junk really dismisses some important points that it makes.
yes, it points out a lot of the obvious and things we already know alongside this so-called science so as to make the reader believe that everything in the article is to be believed, the scientific findings included.

The editorial was hit-and-miss.  I like the point that she's almost the 180 to Trump...anti-establishment, breaks rules, appeals to emotions.  The idea that conservatives respond to fear more than others was kinda silly.  In any case, it was interesting but didn't' really prove much of anything.

This stuff is very nuanced and we seem to be arguing "everyone that hates her is a bigot" vs. "It's all about policy and she'd be treated the same way if she were a 50-year-old white male."  Neither of those black/white stances are true.  Part of the truth is that most Americans hate liberals and she's the most liberal (or at least the most famously liberal) representative in the House.  I have some conservative (Trump-hating) friends that probably don't like her because her fiscal ideas don't feel sustainable.  Hell, I am not sold on her myself for that reason.

But if you really don't think that ethnicity, age, sex (and the future those things points to) is part of this, I don't know what to tell you.  There's plenty that points to fear, not specifically of her, but of what she represents for the future.  Yes, liberal and unapologetic.  But also all these things we pretend not to care about are a part of the mix.  And we've been given plenty of reason to believe this.

Fear of losing the White, Christian, male power structure.

    You will not replace us.

If you don't think some of today's populist movement is driven by white nationalism and fear that different types of people will be a) in power and b) the majority of our population, I don't know what to tell you.  Does that mean everyone who's not a fan of this one legislator is a racist?  No.  But I do believe she represents a future that many people fear.

no one is disputing that those sentiments exist: we all know they do. we are just disputing that every single criticism of female POC is based on that.

I don't believe that anyone has suggested that.

Sounds like we have a bunch of neuroscientists posting here.

I guess I should take their expertise in the area of how brains work over a qualified expert. Just cause it doesn't feel right to them.

so a neuroscientist can't be biased and come a conclusion he wishes to? like I said, scienctific findings require consensus.
