Maybe she was voicing the concerns of some of her constituents? Some like it, some don't. Im sure the ones that dont like it appreciate her speaking on behalf of their concerns.

It’s funny,   A Democrat brings thousands of high paying jobs to a city area and people still complain.   Think of all the people who own properties in that area that just became millionaires!   Yes, some were already, but many were not,  why does everything have to be that if it helps 1 rich person it’s bad.  Does anyone realize anything that happens, the rich are going to get richer.  So, ignore the noise and ask yourself - will a lot of less rich be helped by this?   Governor Cuomo seems to think so.  Unless, that is, he’s in on it too!

You get that people making $125k/yr pay a lot in taxes.  Right?  And what at least in theory can he done  with those tax dollars?     And what about the hardworking janitors and cleaning people and other service industry that will crop up around this new HQ?  Those jobs don’t count because there will be people making more?   (Not to mention all the construction jobs that just got created for the next 5-10 years).

She’s in over her head.  If she wants to just pay for healthcare, this is how you do it.  Give people jobs with access to healthcare, and collect more taxes to pay for those that don’t.  She reminds me of my nephews and nieces BEFORE they went to college.  Interesting how their views changed once they started working and had real jobs.

And not to put words in his mouth, but this is what Jason P is referring to.  She should chase Amazon away so a nice midwestern town can reap the benefits.

So, to recount Queens’ newly minted Rep thinks - Jobs bad.  Paying for healthcare easy.  Yes, we get what we deserve indeed.
Have to admit i pretty much agree with this

Yeah, chasing away Amazon and jobs doesn't seem like a great idea to me, call me crazy

Subsidizing one of the richest companies in the world with tax dollars is a great idea. Also, throwing single payer healthcare under the bus.

Bernie would be proud. Anything to stick it to us LIB's on the AMT eh captain. Haha.

This is exactly what she was doing. Her job. Before it's even her job. She even prefaces her tweets with the fact that she's just relaying the concerns of her constituency.

It just seems weird because most US Representatives or Senators, for that matter, don't do their jobs at all; they just do what they want or what the corporations, special interests and lobbyists who line their pockets want.

I'm pretty sure that NY crunched the numbers and determined that they will be the net winners in this deal. I think they should release their figures and lay it all out for the residents to see. All just projections of course but it would be interesting to see how long they think it will take for the net revenue to the area to surpass what was given up in terms of the incentives.

This is so true. If she's looking out for his constituents, that's good because that's really her job. Most congresspersons are there literally to be one more vote for their party.

When it’s a pasty white guy, nobody cares. I mean just see all those threads about it and anti-$1.5 trillion tax cut threads. Corporate socialism great, people socialism bad, bad, bad.
What are you talking about? Who here said they would care if she slept in her office?
The high cost of real estate in DC and having to maintain a residence in your home district has been an issue for years. But certain posters only seem to point it out when a liberal, Hispanic woman mentions the challenge of it. And no, no one should be living out of their office.
Leave it to you to introduce the terms "pasty white guy" and "liberal, Hispanic woman" into the conversation.
So why is she being attacked for expressing a legitimate concern that others that have gone before her have struggled with? Funny how some can’t discuss racism. Or acknowledge that it exists and is a factor, particularly for some posters.
Who exactly is attacking her? And if representatives before her have struggled with this, what's so special about her? Seems like a problem any congressperson could have regardless of their pasty whiteness, Hispanic liberalness, or whatever other labels you have for people.
Do you think Unsung came up his meme all by himself? Sorry, I don’t surf the dregs of the Internet. So, is it because she’s liberal, Hispanic or a woman?

None of the above.  You keep trying though.  Those labels work so well.

I'm not a fan of corporate subsidies, but welcome to the real world, if you want a massive corp to bring a large operation to your town,  you gotta play ball.

Chasing Amazon away would be flat out moronic, and absolutely wont happen anyway

Bending to the will of capitalism is why the US is a banana-republic compared to other countries when it comes to workers rights, minimum wage etc.

So you are crazy. Or is having the inability to see the full and sane picture of things.

That's the economic reality of the world we live in.  I do not agree with corporate subsidies.  I've seen the Ontario and the Candian governments subsidize corporations for years.   If you want an automotive manufacturing facility then you better roll out the subsidies.

Have to admit i pretty much agree with this
Haha. One of the leftist posters here.
Yeah, chasing away Amazon and jobs doesn't seem like a great idea to me, call me crazy
Bending to the will of capitalism is why the US is a banana-republic compared to other countries when it comes to workers rights, minimum wage etc.

So you are crazy. Or is having the inability to see the full and sane picture of things.

    No.

And Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez didn’t ask such a ridiculous question either.

Safe travels. Enjoy your new digs.

technically, Sweden does not have a minimum wage. but that's an entirely different discussion

but if you want to come over and try to change the entire American economic infrastructure, please feel free, but until then it would be stupid to not play ball with amazon

Why is healthcare attached to jobs? Why does their plan and their physical and mental health revolve around the particular terms of their employment?

It doesn't have to be and that's a fair (but wrong headed) debate.  Why would you want to give up BILLIONS of healthcare subsidies from corporations that are based on competition for employees? I'm sure you don't understand all that means, but taxation replacing competitive healthcare subsidy would be the absolutely dumbest thing we could do as a country (and thus why Obama went down that road - he's not too bright when it comes to healthcare and bending the cost curve).   There are many more people who successfully navigate employment to maintain their health coverage that is better than anything the government could ever reasonably provide (including ensuring proper, comprehensive access that countries with national care do not).

Go ahead - chase Amazon away. Kill Employer subsidized coverage.  Do the math. It's not pretty.  It's funny to me how people do these polls showing "uneducated" white man votes for Trump. Uneducated means a lot of things. There are a lot of people holding college degrees, even PhD's that are not very smart as it pertains to anything outside a book.  Just as there are a lot of people who don't have college educations that are brilliant  (hmmmmmmm... Can you think of someone you might think this of that is related to this very message board?).

Maybe she was voicing the concerns of some of her constituents? Some like it, some don't. Im sure the ones that dont like it appreciate her speaking on behalf of their concerns.

So yes and no. She is suppose to listen to her constituents but not parrot them. Not saying she is but you seem to think a reresentative has to agree with the constituents all the time. I would hope a representative would be more informed and smarter than the average voter. And this could lead to not just taking the constituents position, but understanding it, and then telling them why they are wrong.

I honestly don’t understand much of the backlash about amazon jobs. Seems like they are attacking 1 of the companies that they should be supporting?

I guess we should all just except corporate welfare. I just don't know how anyone, especially conservatives can make that right in their minds.

Just because you assign a pejorative label to it, doesn't make it so.   Have you done the research to determine the net impact over the next 20 years of the incentives agreed to by a Democratic Governor?

Have you tried to look at the bigger picture to see how cities, states/provinces and countries bidding against each other is a race to the bottom and terrible for taxpayers?

Great for corporations and share holders though.

Really? So NYC is struggling b/c they have CitiGroup, IBM, JP Morgan, Verizon, American Express?

Lol.  You don't seem to be aware of how this all actually works.  Yes, there have been major boondoggles where municipalities have given incentives that didn't payoff.  However, there are many more that do.  Go back to Pre-Rudy Giuliani and Post and let me know how NYC looked before and after a strategic plan of attracting large, profitable corporations impacts a city.  NYC once almost went bankrupt running purely liberal policies. And Cuomo is actually preventing Deblasio from doing the same.

Everyone thinks - well, NYC always has these companies and does well. Ummm. No. It didn't.

That's cute. So you're saying the US scheme provides better, more efficient healthcare than other industrialized nations? Is that borne out in our mortality rates? How does our per capita healthcare spending vis-a-vis our mortality rate compare with other western democracies? (hint: we're way at the top by a large margin for the former, and we're sorely training in the latter.).
