She had native ancestors 8 to 10 generations ago. She has talked about how this connection has been a multi-generational narrative in her family, which is highly believable, as this is very common. I actually assumed that is why she ever said anything about it in the first place before all this dumb shit started happening. She did not lie. Many people just feel that she needs a closer connection than that to mention it. I tend to agree, but not to a begrudging level; I'm sure she's embarrassed that her family has clearly been over-blowing the connection though.

That's really not the point being made. I don't think anyone has suggested she did the right thing here - she made a big mistake by lowering herself enough to try and respond to Trump's crap, and I don't think anyone denies that it's not at least awkward/uncomfortable that she's tended to overstate her Native connection (although I for one am completely buy the reasoning offered for this mistake; it's totally valid IMO - people really do work that way).

The point being made is that Trump supporters are ALL over it as though it's the scandal of the century (including a bunch of lies and disinformation swirling around to bolster it), while ignoring the actual scandalS of the century being committed on a regular basis by the one they support. It's ridiculous.
