The funny thing to me is how many people think NK actually posed, or pose, a threat to anybody outside of their own population. Suckers lol

I love how people think a near 70 year conflict is going to be resolved in a simple 30 minute meeting.  The bigger picture here is that baby steps were taken.  And a different tact was used in comparison to past administrations...a tact that seems to be much more productive. I believe North Korea was 100% sure we weren't fucking around and that we had a leader possibly more unpredictable than they do. I dont say that with any real pride, but it seems to have been at least somewhat effective, because their actions changed dramatically over the course of a few months and dialogue began.

Human rights violations and other issues are not immediately going to be corrected after a single meeting. But if dialogue continues then hopefuly...above all issues...that will be resolved.

How has it not been? Instead of talking shit, increasing military exercises in the region and expanding sanctions, which only hurt the citizenry even more, we gave Un at least a hint of respect and extended an olive branch. If anyone says that having the leader of North Korea at the table, for even the briefest of cordial meetings is a bad thing, they are fucking delusional.

I’m not going to say it’s a bad thing, nor am I going to say it’s necessarily a good thing. NK’s statement is virtually identical to the one they made the last go ‘round, and we have seen how well they carried that out. Another statement on its own means not much of anything. The mere fact of a meeting, on its own, means not much of anything.

people claiming that this is a postive step are speaking WAY too prematurely. nothing has been done. nothing has been accomplished. a photo op sit down means zero unless something gets done. and nothing has been done yet.

What you have is a business man acting as president who sees an opportunity for personal gains in an isolated and poorly developed country. He is again using his position to formally give a known human rights destroying dictator recognition and praise. It's vile and disgusting. There is an angle to every action.
    It's a hopeless situation...

This. So far all I've heard from this meeting is platitudes and a photo op. If something meaningful comes of this then I will give credit where credit is do, but based on the history I'm not very optimistic.

People realize that NK agreed to denuclearization in 1993, right?
