I didn't give Trump credit for it. From what I can tell, Trump's basically done nothing besides suggest a meeting. I give Kim Jong Un the credit for the release of the hostages - I saw nothing to suggest this release was specifically negotiated. Seems more like Un just decided to it. If there were negotiations of any sort, I've seen nothing to suggest that Trump was involved in them. Un is also the one who requested this upcoming meeting between him and Trump. Trump gets credit for agreeing to attend I guess, although it's probably far too early for that, since we don't know what Trump is going to do at the meeting, and I think we're all justified in worrying about that. Is Trump going to be left alone with Un?? Trump says a lot of crazy shit a lot of the time - I'm worried about him being alone in a room with the second craziest leader in the world. Best to wait until after that before handing out kudos. We all still need to wait and see how all this shit turns out. Trump has raised the expectations of the meeting to the point where the US is now in a terrible negotiating position. Trump claims that he will provide security "guarantees" to the regime. But what guarantee can Trump possibly provide that is stronger than the one NK currently possesses; nuclear warheads? Kim is negotiating for economic sanction relief for guarantees of peace. He will never give up his warheads. Why would he? It literally makes no sense.
To further bolster the point, the US and SK called off the planned exercises in the Peninsula to avoid jeopardizing the talks. Does that sound like a team negotiating from a position of power?
Trump has been duped and it was all too easy because of his outsized ego and giant mouth (and fat fingers).
