Well it's not fake. It's just a huge comb over, lol. Yeah, it's kind of ridiculous, but I think it definitely suits him anyway. I mean, I can't think of another hairdo that would look better on him, using his own hair. And it's kind of his signature... he wears it well IMHO. And you know how much I hate the guy, lol. I definitely think it looks better than him just being completely bald. I think he would look absolutely horrible bald.rgambs said:

A man who relies on the force of his will and mind and doesn't have a pitifully large measure of vanity.
I think you are setting the bar pretty low here in what we should expect from a 70 year old leader of the free world.

Huh? I didn't make any "claim". Are you suggesting I actually said that Trump can just change the Constitution on his won so he can become the ultimate ruler for all time? No. I didn't.HughFreakingDillon said:
"who knows?" so how do you make a claim like that if you have no idea how to back it up?PJ_Soul said:
Who knows? I'm talking about the slow, insidious growth of a system that hurts everyone except those in power, be it a fascist state, a corptocracy, an oligarchy, or whatever. There is some seriously Orwellian shit going on in America right now, and I actually think it's a little naive to just assume that it's impossible for this kind of thing to happen just because of the Constitution. The Constitution isn't the end all and be all of the universe. It is fallible, and it and anything like it are always at risk. Shit falls apart eventually. Trump could very well be the beginning of the slow fall of America or the profound transformation of American into something worse. It happens to every society eventually, so I'm not too sure why some assume it's suddenly impossible just because of the Constitution. And no, I'm not paranoid. I'm just looking at it objectively.HughFreakingDillon said:
how are they less reliable than people think they are? so Trump can just change the constitution on his own so he can become the ultimate ruler for all times?PJ_Soul said:HughFreakingDillon said:
not sure how it proves your point when I wasn't countering your point to begin with. Again, I said don't blow it off, but it's not as hysterical as everyone is making it out to be. there are checks and balances to what he can do. Of course Obama didn't act like this; for one, he seems like a likeable guy, two, even if he wasn't, he is infinitely smarter than Trump and knew what to say in public and what not to.PJ_Soul said:
But Obama didn't regularly and repeatedly display the traits and actions of a dictator. That comparison actually kind of proves my point. If Trump only said this, or just one thing in particular, and no other things that make him seem like a fascist, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Everyone understands the context in which Trump said this specific comment - we're not all idiots. But the fact that he was "making a funny" in this one instance really isn't the point.HughFreakingDillon said:
I have been called a Trump apologist in the past for no other reason than exhibiting some objectivity, so who knows what's next.PJ_Soul said:
But he makes a lot of "dictator moves". I'm not sure I see the benefit of blowing of any of his comments, be they serious or not. All of them speak to his general thinking. Even jokes have a kernel of truth, and since you mentioned context... the context of Trump in particular saying shit like this actually does mean something more than if someone else said it.HughFreakingDillon said:the headlines I see when I google "trump treason" are laughable and fear mongering at its finest. "in dictator move...." is one of the funniest. But hey, I guess I'm a trump supporter now, right?
Pretty sure nobody is accusing you of being a Trump supporter, lol.
Obama reversed his position on the Patriot Act when he was president from when he was senator. I didn't see anyone on the left calling him a dictator or the media going ape-shit over it.
I didn't say blow them off. I said don't jump to hysterics every time he says something stupid. it is important to call him out on his bullshit in a rational way, but all this constant over-reaction will desensitize everyone to everything. The boy who cried wolf, as it were.
and yes, we would be having this conversation if he only said one thing like this. we have been having this conversation since the first stupid thing he said. it just so happens that the topic of conversation changes because he says things like this quicker than we can forget the last one.
there is a very small subsection of supporters that actually take trump seriously at his every word. everyone else supports "his" agenda, but simply blows off his stupid comments as just that, stupid. they tolerate his idiocy to further their conservative agenda. Er, okay... what I meant was, then, the Obama comparison doesn't work. You didn't see anyone on the left calling him a dictator or the media going ape-shit because him doing it didn't make him suddenly seem like a dictator (of course, it was controversial - it's not like people ignored what it meant for America). I actually don't feel like anyone has been "hysterical" about it anyway TBH. And I don't see how "checks and balances" really play in here. Frankly, I think these so-called checks and balances are much less reliable than a lot of people seem to think they are. Democracy is degraded slowly through propaganda, through a bunch of little things that work on the minds of the people and on the way government is run. That only a minority of people support Trump doesn't change that fact. All the tweets, all the quips, combined with all the firings, all the attacks on the justice system and the media, the subtle but purposeful erosion of public trust in the current system ... all those thing culminate into something very dangerous that these "checks and balances" don't necessarily stop in the long run. I never said it was impossible.
Enough with the Orwellian shit. This place seems to have about 7 or 8 different talking points constantly recycled to try to prove a point.
i'm not naive, but thanks for (yet another) insult.
I am looking at it objectively. Hence the non-hysteria.
One American administration at present will not destroy democracy as we know it.
All I said was the hysteria does not currently match the reality. Will it eventually? Possibly. But today, it does not, IN MY OPINION (I don't think a lot of people here understand what the difference between fact and opinion is). And here I am being naive, telling everyone to just ignore it (which is actually the opposite of what I said), being made fun of. it's incredible how any time one's views don't match the majority around here how you get attacked and ridiculed. There really is no logical discourse here anymore. If you don't agree, you are a fucking idiot. or grumpy. or there is something inherently wrong with you. Heaven forbid a liberal disagrees with the lot on anything.
PJ Soul: Frankly, I think these so-called checks and balances are much less reliable than a lot of people seem to think they are.
HFD: how are they less reliable than people think they are?

Because the scum all circle the wagons to protect other scum. Once the scum is identified... they part with ways and tighten up the circle again."My brain's a good brain!"0

This happened about 75 miles from me, and was highlighted on all of the local news stations. Adi and his wife were planning to leave on their own in early January, then ICE stepped in.Thirty Bills Unpaid said:

I'm not really sure what you're talking about, lol. I think you know my perspective when it comes to Trump the man and the leader. We're just talking about what he looks like here, which is, of course, completely irrelevant to his actual leadership. He would simply look like shit bald. I have no clue how I'm setting a bar low when I'm just talking about his hairdo. But FWIW, to say that someone is a worse person with no guts just because they don't want to be bald seems pretty shallow. I'm sure there are plenty of absolutely brilliant, wonderful, strong men in the world who still don't want to be bald (not that there's anything wrong with that, lol. FTR, my ex was completely bald from the day I met him and I liked it. Well, he shaved his head to get rid of the ring, lol, but yeah, bald as can be. I have no issues with bald in general. Trump in particular, though, would look bad bald and it would damage what is already a horrible impression for him).rgambs said:
