Less hype. Typically lower print runs. Innocent prints. Less critique. People bought simply whether they liked or not. Not for investment. Not because others liked them. Not to fund tours. true, but your comparing apples with oranges. in 1998 the Internet was not like it is now with people connecting. There couldn't be a huge market, because people wouldn't know what a poster looked like from different stops on the tour, only the concert they went to. There was also no e-commerce, no one would buy things online. There was no eBay.

But I will agree with you I hate the variants and multi poster shows like the baseball stadiums and Global Citizens, that seems very commercial to me. One show, one poster, move on.

eBay was around in 1998. I was buying baseball cards like crazy on it back then. Wish I knew about PJ posters back then

Had to go look at when I first started playing on ebay "Member since: May-06-98". But ebay wasn't anywhere near what it is today. My friend was a dealer for RCCA/Action, they made Nascar diecast, he wasn't doing great selling local, so, I helped him move his merch on ebay for a cut. Same here on the PJ posters. I remember that damn dial up sure was slow, compared to what we have today.

Ya, Kong is cool, but wouldn't say it's the best/most desirable poster ever.

If anyone has a 1998 West Palm Beach poster they want to get rid of, LMK, please. That's my grail at the moment, only show I've been to I don't have the poster.

Kong is neat from a nostalgia point of view but doesn't do anything for me art wise. For me, a poster that creates thought or has a deep message is more attractive. I'd take BK's 2010 Ireland print over Kong for example.

Comment earlier about the 98's is right on IMO. I attended 4 shows on that tour and bought one shirt & the general NA show poster with dates. That was it. My childhood best friend who came with me to the shows bought posters & a few years ago we found them in his basement. He gave me the Ames St.Louis (complete with tiny tack holes) and kept the others for awhile - eventually sold them and funded a trip to Disney World for his family of 4. He had no clue they were worth anything. The Chicago one alone he got around $600 for. My Ames is framed & 18 years later it has this almost vintage look to it. The print itself is so plain - not too busy like most of PJ's posters these days. It reminds me of tobacco baseball cards - slim design, plain. So fucking cool.

Getting that Ames ignited a short lived poster phase for me. After that I went after two Chuck Sperry prints he did for the Black Keys (2010, 2014) and was able to get both for less than $200. Those are professionally framed. I have my Ames PJ20 from the merch stand framed, 2004 VFC show dates poster, a mint 98' NA dates poster (to replace my original that got all ripped up moving around), and a few random mystery prints that I want to keep.

I've scored some great posters in those mystery sales. Got a Hawaii 2006 I traded for a copy of Binaural on vinyl, a Wrigley alien poster I used for some kind of trade on here & some 06' tour poster from some show in Europe I can't remember.

Interesting thread. Kong is alright but for me a poster needs to be able to be hung and guests need to be like woah, that's cool, dude. Kong just doesn't do it for me. Personally love the 96 Randall's/Seattle posters, Pitt 13 was really cool and a few others along the way. 98's and 96's are the top of the food chain to me.

Kong is probably the most desireable of the last 10 years, but I wouldn't say it's the best.

Pittsburgh 2013 poster is in my opinion the greatest PJ poster I've ever seen and my favorite piece of art I've ever owned.

Still wish I had my Pitt '13 AP, but I ended up selling it to fund a turntable... So at least every time I put a record on I can say its thanks to that print.

I think if anything can be taken away from this really interesting discussion is that most people like the DK art, but have a personal preference of another print as "better". But, DK is the most desirable print to own in the post-2000 era, with Pitts 13 and Cracker Jack as 2 and 3

For me, this is a huge "litmus test". Cant hang the donkey kong in my living area... but it will be at the front of the libe when my basement gets finished. Should look terrific down there.

Right now, very visible and framed are cleveland 10 burwell, munk one ev seattle, toronto 09 klausen, msg 1 16 bioworkz, and munk one pj/10 club ap.

Not understanding the love for the Lex print? It's cool but not drool worthy.

The first 3 posters from this tour are great, I think the Klausen is going to be a real sleeper.

To the OP I agree that the top 3 are DK, Crackerjack and Pitt.

The Wrigley Mural is desired too but there aren't enough of them out there...
