Not meaning to get in the middle of something but... since bb's avatar has been brought up I must say, I do not find it offensive at all. Powerful, yes. Moving, yes. Invoking a desire to be better aware of and educated about the refugee situation, yes. To do whatever, in any way one can, to make any amount of difference in supporting those victims of a huge and cruel power game, hell yes.
Now back to the subject at hand. Bible students, another (sorry, rather long-winded) question for you (besides the unanswerable regarding Jesus take on gay marriage since it didn't seem to be a big enough issue for him to talk about): The Bible tells the story of how King David (now remember, this King David is considered one of God's most chosen) got the hots for Bathsheba, wife of Uriah the Hittite, couldn't keep it in his pants and not only had sex with her and had an illegitimate child with her but then basically had Uriah offed by putting him on the front line of battle. Why is this forgivable enough to the point of God making David one of his chosen ones but when two people of the same sex who happen to be homosexual and care deeply enough for each other to commit to a life of marriage, why in hell is this supposedly NOT ok? See the huge discrepancy here?
But really, no need to answer because we all know about separation of church and state and the fact that this woman, having the beliefs she has, should never have taken a job she can't do correctly in the first place. She was given the choice to avoid jail bu allowing the deputy clerks to issue the licenses. She refused that offer. She is free to believe gays shouldn't be allowed to marry. But as a civil servant cannot legally impose that on others in the permance of her lawful duties as clerk. She swore an oath to uphold the US Constitution as well as Kentucky's. She is breaking that oath. Derelict in her duties. She is in jail for refusing to comply with a lawful judicial order.

I said this. Go read my posts. Her denying licenses is a good thing. She's doing gods work. Her being divorced previously has not one once of anything to do with this. Wasn't it her job, under the same constitution, to deny said licenses for the last hundred years? Only a few short months ago were the rules changed. She's doing what she feels is right, doing gods work and denying the right to marry legally. She's not against gays because of that, she's against breaking the law she's known and upheld for years. That's why she's a martyr for Christians, is she's willing to put her American freedom on the line, and lose it for her beliefs. They did the same thing to Jesus ya know, murdered and torturered him for sticking to his beliefs in a time when society said you couldn't. Isn't this a similar situation?
