Man's Crocs lead to barroom brawl

An Evansville man who had to get stitches after a fight at a West Side bar early Saturday morning reportedly told police the brawl started over his Croc shoes.

Nicholas Lee Schweizer told police he was on the patio at Show-Me’s West, located at 5501 Pearl Drive, when two men came up to him and “began making fun of his ‘Crocs’ shoes,” according to a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office affidavit.

Crocs are the name brand for a clog-like foam shoe.

Schweizer said the two men, Austin Lee Moore, 24, of Mount Vernon, Indiana, and Dustin Lee Thomas, 24, of Evansville, poured their beers on him and then threw their glasses at him.

One of the glasses struck Schweizer in the face, which reportedly cut him deeply in the forehead above the left eye and knocked him to the ground.

While he was on the ground, Schweizer said Thomas kicked him in the head. As the two were leaving, they threw patio chairs at Schweizer, he told police.

An off-duty deputy working security at the bar stopped Thomas and Moore in the bar’s parking lot.

Moore told police no one threw any beer glasses. Thomas told police the fight began over a female and that all three men did some “pushing and shoving.” Thomas denied kicking Schweizer in the head.

Moore and Thomas were booked and released from the Vanderburgh County Jail on preliminary charges of battery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Moore, who deputies found was banned from Show-Me’s in 2011, was also preliminarily charged with trespass.
