Wow. Total fucking insult, I find it hard to believe you meant it any other way. Nobody calls someone hipster unless they are considered to be phony, and how many hipsters do you meet outside of urban environments? I'm a country boy in ways you wouldn't understand in Florida, and my beard is closer to religiously motivated than any other reason, despite my atheism. My beard is natural as fuck, which I doubt you could say for your face which you probably scrape with sharp metal blades so you can fit in with your pretentious, phony cronies. Put on your monkey suit and go make some greenbacks, that will make you respectable. I'll go to my garden and grow some veggies, milk some goats, and not spare a damn thought about your conservative money-hungry values until its time to drop trou and take a shit.rr165892 said:
Hipster beard is what your saying.rgambs said:
Gibbons and Hill have me beat on length...but I don't hold cotton with that wispy style...if you can see neck through it, its time to trim the tails. I believe in a Blackbeard style, dense and impenetrable! That's a real beard, those Duck Dynasty guys have wispy little pussy willows. They need to trim them back to where the power stops and let those pussy willows go!rr165892 said:
Says the guy who out beards ZZ Too and all of Appalachia.lolrgambs said:Rednecks give country folks a bad name. None of those definitions were even close to accurate. A redneck is the lowest rural class, just like gangbangers are the lowest urban class. Neither group has any class, they break the law too much, and shirk responsibility for themselves while paradoxically claiming to have "never been given anything". The idea that southerners are more self-sufficient is a cultural lie that is disproved by federal "welfare" distribution figures. Same goes for "hoodrats" or whatever offensive name outsiders label them with.
Here is the crazy part...culturally these fringe groups are able to taint the impression given by those who have class in their immediate vicinity largely by the classier folks' acceptance of the classless' cultural failings. Hence the popularity of terrible country songs with idiotic faux-patriot lyrics and rap songs with violent, sexist lyrics. Hence the popularity of trucks and guns for ruritans, and Cadillacs and bling for urbanites. It is insane. Songs like Red Solo Cup and artists like Nicki Minaj, this isn't a case of bad taste, it's an idiotic, misguided cultural alignment that effects probably millions who should be smart enough to know better.
And I do agree with a lot of what you said here.
*Disclaimer* I have never seen a single bit of Duck Dynasty outside of their faces on TShirts. I thoroughly dislike them and their style based of what I have heard from the general public, which seems to think I would be a fan because I too have hair on my face.
Maybe leave the judgements out and I will do the same.
And I'm rocking a 5 day growth right now for what its worth.Never a monkey suit on rr.Jeans or Shorts only.
I'm down with a hipster bashing thread that sounds like fun!Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487I walked into a hipster coffee shop in Chicago.
Over half the guys had on skinny jeans, beards, close cropped hipster haircuts, flip-flops, and flannel. Most had on the black framed glasses. Are you that hip if you look like everyone else?0 -
Exactly what are you trying to say when you compare the two stories and the manner in which they are told? What's your point?CM189191 said:

If this person hadn't put this dickhead out of commission... we'd be forced to listen to how unfortunate his upbringing was and how we owed this really nice and misunderstood human being our best efforts to give him another kick at the can (he had already spent time in prison and was currently on probation for assaulting a police officer).
* He assaulted a police officer? And never got shot? I guess not all cops are trigger happy, small-dicked dirtbags just itching to waste people, eh?
Also, if I recall correctly, he was fired and then went straight to the violence. So, did he have a knife already with him (and one capable of beheading)?
Fucked up is what it is. Wish I had more eloquent words for it, but yeah. Utterly fucked up.

It's funny how we have 2 very similar stories about disgruntled employees going killing former coworkers with 2 very different narratives.
One story has pictures of the culprit posted all over the internet within hours. Criticism of his religion. No mention of his family or personal life, but his rap sheet is on full display.
The other story interviews his pastor: "he was having problems at work but never suggested the situation might turn violent". Talks about his wife, and their dreams to start a business together. No mention of whether there is a criminal history, much less how he acquired his gun and what permits he had.
It's also quite telling that your initial reactions are "shoot to kill". Not really helping, it just gives the image of another trigger happy gun-owner waiting for the opportunity to exercise vigilante justice. For people who give so much weight to the law and their right to own a gun for defense; you certainly have a complete disregard for due process. Just looking for a chance to play judge, jury and executioner.
IF it turns out to be the case, I respect the gentleman's restraint in not killing Alton Nolen.
As for the 'shoot to kill' reaction you admonish us barbarians for... speaking for myself... I don't know what came over me thinking it was an appropriate course of action given one severed head was rolling around on the floor and 'Alton Nolen' was working on another one.
Just because you're happy Alton survived the gunshot wound he endured while trying to lop off another head doesn't mean everyone else should be as well. Given his actions and whether right or wrong, some people view Alton as a lower form of life than the mosquito you crush as it lands on your arm.

I hate when classics get adopted by fads. Beards go way back, hippies and hipsters can't take them for their own. Same with flannel, finely woven wool is as classic as it gets, grungeites and hipsters can't have flannel either.rr165892 said:Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -

Made me think of the Brady Bunch kitchen.
I LOVE my childhood home - old Spanish / Mediterranean / Art-Deco-ish style, beautiful colored tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms, archways, original sconces.
But MY GOD, the dark olive green shag carpet throughout the place. And there was gorgeous hardwood underneath.

Yup, front of the home faced west and back east, so we got sunrises and sets plus the nicest cross-breezes when the windows were open - those old slatted windows that were a bitch to clean, too.JWPearl said:

It's just interesting how two equally heinous crimes are portrayed in the media. One guy is a religious zealot, the other is a wholesome Christian that went to church each day. What's the difference? It happens time & time again, one kid is gangster who smoked pot and listened to the rap music; one kid is a straight-A student who kept to himself and his parents can't imagine how he got into trouble. It's just amazing to me how a kid that mowed down a bunch of people in a movie theater gets taken alive, and another with a pellet gun he picked up off the store shelf ends up dead.Thirty Bills Unpaid said:

So you're a country boy whose daddy had a gun, all your neighbors have guns, and your friends too. It's just your way of life. What does it matter if you need to defend yourself from rabid wildlife, lunatics with knives, disgruntled coworkers, armed robbers, drive by shootings or rival gangs? Because that kid in the city, his daddy had a gun, his neighbors all have guns, and so do his friends. It's just his way of life. Either way, to me, someone who needs a gun everyday to feel safe is just waiting for a chance to use it. When all you have is a hammer, suddenly every problem looks like a nail. Country folk don't have a monopoly on gun culture, but you're certainly more likely to be a victim.
Common citizens with little to no training just waiting for their turn to play police. Who conceal/carry with a quick class and minimal regulation. Or who can just as easily get a gun either off the street or at Walmart. And now we have a society that's armed to teeth. Cops don't know when a common traffic stop is going to devolve into a shoot out. They fear for their lives and have to strap on a vest everyday. They conduct no-knock raids, use excessive force, and act like a paramilitary force. The problem continues to escalate.
You say the reason you carry a weapon is because the police can't be everywhere all the time. I would say your need to carry a weapon has resulted in a police-state.0 -
We will have relative rare instances where gun guy takes positive action. Doesn't negate the other thousands that die due to guns.mickeyrat said:
