You shouldn't be surprised. Political correctness is a disease. It prevents any sort of real and honest dialogue whether it be about Israel, race, class, sex, immigration, etc....eldarion75 said:So everyone is literally having to tip toe around the issue because they'll have the hysterical anti-semite reaction thrown at them if they dont. and not one person was surprised at all..

I think this is beyond political correctness, as Byrnzie pointed out, they have defined an area beyond racism for themselves and woe betide anyone that criticises them or anything to do with them.
If you make yourself out to be the parriah, it suits your need when anyone criticises. this has been the MO for a long long time.0 -

The fact here is that Israel has killed a shocking number of children during this offensive. Children whose only "crime" was being born on the wrong side of the border. This has gone so far that it is no longer about politics. It is no longer about the occupation. It is no longer about tunnels and rockets. Innocent children are being slaughtered. It needs to stop.BS44325 said:

I'm not saying the issue needs to be solved here and now, nor do I have a workable solution to offer. I am saying that doesn't matter. What matters is that this particular Israeli offensive needs to stop.

Wow, some of the stuff I am reading in here reminds me of nazi propaganda at its "best". I am shocked and appalled and disgusted.
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue! http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -
Criticizing Israel is NOT anti-semitism. I've been pretty clear on that.eldarion75 said:I think this is beyond political correctness, as Byrnzie pointed out, they have defined an area beyond racism for themselves and woe betide anyone that criticises them or anything to do with them.

This however is:
Eldarion75: Jewish immigrants never really did themselves any favours in a lot of the countries they moved into, usually becoming money lenders backed up by muscle to get 'what was owed'0 -
The whole 'Hamas using children as shields' is a moot argument..IDF have shown this week they have no problem shooting and killing children even at play..i'll refer you to the 4 Palestinian boys killed on the beach by an IDF warship. Don't tell me they couldnt make out what they were firing at..they knew exactly what they were aiming for..0

Jon Snow - returning from Gaza - recounts the scene inside al-Shifa hospital, where doctors struggle to treat adults and children wounded by Israeli attacks.

None of my Jewish family feel this way.Byrnzie said:What I find interesting is that Jews think that they're so special that they even deserve their own special brand of racism.
Apparently there's racism, and then there's anti-Semitism. And we're all supposed to just nod in agreement.
Within this clusterfuck of a thread, I still respect so many people - you as well, though our views on some issues diverge - but that comment up there is quite misguided and to me, comes across as hateful.
I'm agnostic but born and raised Jewish, and feel I'm no more "special" than anyone else.

I dont think anyone was being singled out, Hedonist, but there are some here defending Israels actions with a blind unquestioning devotion and all the while can't answer simple questions or acknowledge that the majority of casualities and fatalities have been Palestinian children...it's appalling..0

eldarion, I don't condone blinders either - no matter who's defending whom.
And yes, this whole thing (almost feels disrespectful calling this a "thing") is beyond appalling and sad and so very divisive.

Arguing against antisemitism while children and innocents are being killed plays right into the hands of those that actually do have antisemitic beliefs. Israel's reputation is taking a huge hit here in the US. I don't care what the news or the polls say. I can see it happening in almost every conversation I have. These debates are hurting it even more.
I have argued against anti-Americanism before and will again, but there is a time and a place for such discussions. This is not that time. Israel and its supporters would serve themselves well to acknowledge that.___________________________________________

Stephen Hawking once said that we will only forget borders, creed, all the divisions we keep, once we face an external threat, meaning aliens i presume...hedonist said:eldarion, I don't condone blinders either - no matter who's defending whom.
