I am so jealous that Winnipeg got In My Tree!
Does anyone have a picture of the show poster, perhaps? I'm obsessed with them now.Makes much more sense to live in the Present Tense.
Shows: 05/30/03, 09/02/05, 09/04/05, 09/05/05, 09/24/05, 09/25/05, 07/22/06, 04/02/08 (EV solo), 08/08/09, 08/23/09, 08/24/09, 09/25/09, 09/21/11, 09/23/11, /9/30/12, 12/02/13... many more to come!0 -
I remember seeing a guy in line before the show with a sign that said "In My Tree" and "Viva New Orleans" in the back, and when the band played the song, I just thought to myself that Ed and the guys sure made that guy's day... The whole show was awesome, but I am extra happy that I got to hear In Hiding, Smile, Sad, and Crazy Mary live...0

yes....PJ, the Love Boat Captains unloaded their music in Winnipeg, I mean big big loads...
I am not going to repeat the set list, but both my husband and I have never seen any Western rock concert before(we are both East Indians and heard basically Indian music all our life, but having partly grown up in Canda, I have always admired Pearl Jam's great respect for music and ofcourse, they are very very talented)...it was absolutely worth it to spend a night with energetic Band and Fans. The set list was pretty standard (no new songs), Band gave the fans what they wanted, afterall, it has been nearly 15 years before they returned. Eddie Vedder is no doubt a very charismatic and passionate Frontman of his generation. It was a great musical journey to witness the young fans and their beloved Band. Ofcourse, Neil Young has contributed a lot to their "standard" of music and the crazy business that sourrounds music.
Side Note: appearance of Band....Eddie has got to spot smoking, Stone and Jeff should turn more to the Back of stage audience for both upper and down...(we were section 313 first row. upper level). Although Stone and Jeff appeared friendly, but both seem to be very reserved. Mike turned back a few times, and we really appreicated that he acknowledged us. Eddie turned around few times, but defiinetly not enough, but he did make reference to back audience ""small theatre going on her in the back". Eddie communicated with side stage audience few times...he ran to side stage...some lucky fan in front got tambourine and a hug, and girl Kim was hand picked from fan club front seats for a stage sing along...wow...
Boom was great addition, although, the Band could work on more creativity with Boom.
The Band seem to be rushed...would like to have heard few more comments, about coming back when and If...also, how the Band will continue their future creativity....although friendly overall appearance of Band....I don't think they interacted too much with the Fans...but it was a great show...
hope you all had fun...I probably forgot few things to add...but hey, it is Pearl Jam and we are all excited fans....

I've been to dozens and dozens of concerts in my day. I think the first being Soundgarden over a decade ago. I have to say that this Pearl Jam concert was the most amazing concert I have ever been to ever!
Not only was the band absolutely phenomenal the crowd was amazing. I'm listening to the official bootleg as we speak and it doesnt do it justice. The crowd was ***LOUD***. Singing along with Black or laughing and cheering for the girl dancing with Eddie during smile. I think thats what made the show for me, the crowd were just so into it and singing with PJ every step of the way. The MTS centre was packed, there wasnt an empty seat, they even had made it open behind the stage and Eddie devoted time to the people back there. Everyone I've talked was completely awed by the experience.
This show is an example of exactly what a concert should be.
Thank you Pearl Jam for finally coming to town and thank you Winnipeg for being an absolutely amazing crowd to see a show with.0 -

L0VeB0ATCApTA1N wrote:It was kind of confusing too when they started talking about Neil Young and stuff, the crowd I believe was under the impression that Neil was in the building and coming to do a performance. I believe this rumour started, or was at least magnified, by a local radio station...
This message is for that radio station, go fuck yourselves and your shit broadcasting, you disappointed more than a few people by repeating old/unfounded rumours. Pearl Jam, unfortunately, were caught in the middle of the whole thing and of course they did not disappoint because they have integrity and try to follow some simple principles in life, ie not screwing around with people''\s emotions. Once again, go fuck yourselves "Winnipeg's Best Rock"...
Who does shit like that? A bunch of hack wannabees thats who..., btw I had way better tickets than those shitheads...
fucking rights.. you go ! we all get better tickets than any of those shitheads.. and they know it. excuse the anger.. ive had it with that kind of shit too.0 -

A+
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A Pearl Jam show is better than sex.
It's just as emotionally and physically exhausting, but it lasts for three hours and climaxes many times. And this particular Pearl Jam show was so good it was surreal.
Playing to an epic crowd of 16,000 (the largest for the MTS Centre), the grunge veterans finally brought their groundbreaking music to Winnipeg. And break ground, they did.
Paired with a minimal stage and bare bones lighting, the focus was entirely on Pearl Jam and their huge sound. Going through a generous two and a half hour set, Eddie and the boys covered a little of everything, making for an in depth, eclectic performance. With particular attention to the album No Code, we were given the grown up Pearl Jam tunes paired with the angst and energy they had in 1991.
In fact, the set list was perfect. With enough obscure tunes like Sad and Lukin to keep the die hards happy and enough of Ten to keep everyone happy, Pearl Jam knew what their audience wanted.
From pretty slow songs like the heartbreaking Indifference to the devastatingly beautiful Immortality, to dramatic, soul bearing rockers like Blood and Do The Evolution, Vedder's voice took on it's own role as an instrument. Swigging from his usual jug of wine, and dressed simply in a t-shirt and cords, Vedder relished sharing his music, and a bit of himself with the crowd. Switching from his trademark baritone to soaring, beautiful falsettos to throat searing screams, Vedder's voice carried all the angst, heartache, joy, confusion and love of his lyrics. The sheer energy being but into his voice made it almost an ethereal, surreal experience. The result was a truly moving, sincere performance. It's music that is made to be live.
But it was Vedder's signature Waaaaaaaaaaah! that got the crowd going during Even Flow. Hits such as Jeremy and Alive were revamped with 8 minute solos and lyric changes. Daughter went into a nice tag of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall. They put the jam in Pearl Jam, making good songs even better.
The crowd was just as amazing as the show, amazing enough for Vedder to comment. "Winnipeg, you're f*cking amazing, and I mean that" an awestruck Vedder said to the crowd. Everyone was on their feet, everyone was singing and everyone was there for them.
During the last encore, a privileged fan got to join Vedder for the tune Smile she apparently had be requesting (via t-shirt) for quite some time. Vedder treated her to an awkward, exaggerated slow dance.
And just when you think it can't possibly get better than Alive and the night's surprise, Jeremy, Pearl Jam rounds out the night with two Neil Young covers, the last of which being Rockin' in the Free World, played under the house lights.
I have seen Pearl Jam before and they were nowhere near as good as they were at this show. It was truly the concert of a lifetime, and I dare say, the show of the tour. Pearl Jam did something that many bands can't. They played a perfect show.

The girl who was on stage and sang Smile? The girl who I am currently very jealous of? I wasn't at the show but my friends were and when they told me, I was so jealous! Congradulations though... why did they pick you in particular? DETAILS!Makes much more sense to live in the Present Tense.

Sounds awesome Winnipeg...I knew that place would be a great crowd... Ed said sorta the same stuff about the crowd level as he did in Calgary which was fucking crazy loud so i KNOW I can believe you guys saying the crowd was loud...so cool...feel bad for this couple I sat by for the shows in Calgary/Edmonton/Saskatoon...as they had an Indifference sign held up for each show and got no love...think they didnt go to the Peg either...ah well....this will be a definete must buy show just for the fact In Hiding got played...excellant reviews lets keep hearing them....whats this I hear Ed dropping in Saskatoon in Not For You...fuck in Edmonton he was rambling about Saskatoon and now he still mentions it in Winnipeg...fucking funny..postive he loves saying Saskatoon...anyways I knew Winnipeg would be a great crowd I can remember being apart of the White-Outs when the Jets were town...GREAT JOB WINNIPEG.....0

I just wanted to say that this was the greatest concert I've been to. The emotion in Mts Centre was awesome. Here I was standing in the Visitor box yelling and singing my heart out. Its so cool when you yell out and everyone around you takes up your call and cheers! Even with my shades on I could see everything in clarity. Thank you Pearl Jam for coming to our SMALL TOWN and giving us the show of the entire tour.
Peace0 -
Fuckign amazing. I was cryign as i left the arena like a 9 year old girl when the spice girls first came out, except worse. This experiance has honestly changed my life forever. I thought I was a HUGE fan before I'd seen them live... but now that i have finally seen my FIRST Pearl Jam concert, I am convinced that they are THE greatest F'n band IN THE WORLD... There is nothing i can say to describe my emotions goin on while the show was on. I was with some random guy from Minnesota who I've never met, and we ended up wrapping our arms around eachother the entire show. I was standing on my chair, sporting my "Pj Chick shirt" in the 13th row on the floor, and if you listen to "in my tree" i believe it is.. or basically ANY silent part where the band was jsut ending a song ebfore ppl started cheering, you can hear me scream when nobody else is:P haha it was AWESOME!!
FUCKING THANK YOU PEARL JAM YOU ARE THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME!!!!You sheltered me from nothing but the weather...0 -
They saw the sign in Saskatoon and played "in my tree" in winnipeg. They did the same thing with our "I got shit" sign. Saw it in Edmonton and played it in Toon town. Man, great show, great crowd. What was up with the small bathrooms though. LOL. Sorry for the guys that got pissy behind me about the sign. Ciao.
Evan
P.S. I can't believe I made it from Winnipeg to Saskatoon after the show. What a drive. My tour is done for the year, damn. Anyway, enjoy you guys.0 -
This was my first Pearl Jam show although I've been a casual fan since I first heard Alive. They totally blew me away, and I goto a lot of concerts. Usually Winnipeg crowds are so reserved but lately we are the rock capital of Canada (again). I was so impressed by the show last night I think I might turn into a die hard fan
I am so into PJ right now. The worst part is I'm going to see U2 again in a couple weeks and I wont help but cpmpare shows.

I'm pissed...why didn't I know the Peg would rock? I'm from Halifax, the greatest music scene in Canada, IMHO (remember "Seattle of the East") but I always heard Winnipeg was up there! Lots of bands coming out of there and friends from ther telling me it rocked! I should flew straight past Sask and used my ticket for the Peg. Congrats guys, sounds like it ROCKED!0

I was at the MTS Centre, for the best PJ show, I've ever seen lastnite. It was absolutley amazing, and watching it from the 6th row was even better!
The best part of the show was something I didn't even witness.....My brother who is probably the biggest PJ fan out there got to sit beside the stage. He is in a wheelchair and lastnite the wouldn't allow him in 10c seats, so they put him beside the stage. Which was great for him, he has followed PJ all over on tours and usually ends up in Handicap seats. Sometime during R.I.T.F.W. , Eddie wondered off stage, he wrote some encouraging words in my bro's copy of place/date, gave him his tambourine which he wrote PEACE on, hugged my brother and thanked him for listening to the music! I have never seen my brother so happy, I just cried. We know some people snapped pictures of it....we are trying to find a copy....if anyone got a pic of that, please let me know! We want a copy!
Anyways awesome show, I hope evryone enjoyed it as much as I did!the oceans made me, but who came up with love?0 -
Now I know this probably isnt the perfect place to put this however I dont wanna make another thread about this concert and this would be the best place to post my review of the concert. Im sorry if you all dont like the review it doesnt really matter to me. That Concert blew my mind and I had to put it into a Review and since i have no where else to post it but here It will go here. Im sorry if some parts dont make sence. I suck with grammer and stuff but anyways.. here we go..
Holy shit. It was wayyyyy back in like October of 2004 (Probably Wrong)when I heard Pearl Jam were considering doing a Canadian Tour. That is when I first got my hopes up to see Pearl Jam. Almost exactly a year later. Well... 11 Months later...Here they are in the River City Delivering one of the greatest performances of the whole Canadian Tour yet! Holy Shit. I am not kidding if you ever get the chance to see Pearl Jam live I suggest you do so and fast. The Tickets for this show sold out in less then a day. After 10 minutes of waiting on the phone we were already in the last row. I was in the last row at the side of the stage way up in the nosebleeds. However the S tage wasnt that far away from me and I could see everything as well if not Better then the people way off at the other side at the arena. Now the first band im not even going to talk about. They were OK...but meh. I didn’t get into them. Until... the last song of there set when Eddie Vedder came out onto the stage to sing there last song. However at the time I didn’t know it was Eddie Vedder. He came out in a silver jacket and a silver Mexican wrestling mask so you couldn’t tell it was him really. I knew it was him I mean who else would they get so sing there last song.
So anyways when Pearl Jam hit the stage I could honestly feel the arena shaking. 16000 people yelling at the top of there lungs and stomping there feet and clapping there hands will do that to a building even as big as the MTS Center. Pearl Jam was even amazed with how loud us Peggers were cheering them. Now they started off there set with Betterman. I never expected to hear betterman open the preformance but it ended up being a fantastic opener and actually one of the best songs of the show. Including the 2 Encores they played well over 2 and a half hours and played about 27-29 songs. They played the big hits from Ten (Alive, Jeremy, Evenflow, and Black) all of witch kicked ass. They also played songs like Given to Fly, Do The Evolution,Corduroy,Blood, and in my tree.* The set list was amazing.* My personal favorite was a tie between Given to Fly,Evenflow, and Corduroy. All 3 are favorites of mine aswell and hearing them live blew my mind. I was kind of down that they didnt close with my all time favorite Porch. Because I told all my friends that they were going to close with it for some reason. But that wasn’t that big of a problem at all. There Neil Young Covers at the end of the show made up for that big time. They coved Why Do I Keep F***n Up, And Rockin in the Free World witch was a great way to end the show after all Neil Young did grow up in the River City and even though hew as rumored to show up and didn’t Pearl Jams covers made up for that big time. During Rocking in the Free World all the lights in the arena came on so you could see all 16000 people standing and screaming at the top of there lungs. Pearl Jam were even in awe. They told us Peggers that we were effing amazing and all that kind of stuff. Apparently we were the loudest crowd yet on this tour. And this was apparently the best show Pearl Jam has played on this Canadian Tour witch is pretty freaking awesome to be apart of.* All in all this was definitely the best concert EVER to hit Winnipeg this Decade or maybe even ever. After seeing the likes of metallica and the foo fighters 2 great live bands I expected a great performance from the guys in Pearl Jam. But they blew me away. Metallic a and the Foos in one cant compare to the likes of Eddie, Stone, Jeff, Matt, and Mike.* The biggest disappointment of the whole thing was the Paper giving them a 4/5. They will be receiving a complaint letter from someone really soon. I rate that concert 10/5. 200 Fricken Percent. Thank you Pearl Jam for blessing the river city with the greatest live band known to mankind.dreadful sorry, clemintine!0 -

I can't believe it either, that is the most boring stretch of road in all of N. America...especially at night.0
