Seniority shouldnt be getting preference to obtain tickets.
The issue seniority people should have is the main competition for the GA/Best seats is most people in the very high numbers. High numbers have nothing to really gain going for reserved, while seniority people can just "settle" with good odds and get reserved and end up on the wings (sometimes behind ga on the floor).
Another reason there shouldnt be 2 options for the shows.
No matter the method they selling tickets.....when they have for exable 1tix for every 5 persons want it...4 fans will shout out.... there are 2 kind of "fair " of metbod selling tickets 1.i did t score with lottery so lottery isnt fair cos i never missed out in the past 2.lottery is fair for all cos noone from fans has any kind of power on it and all members deserve to score tix.. and doesnt matter if i score...ill be in the venue to see the band.... im with number 2 thats why i support lottery

I long for the days when people only complained about the seats they got, not whether they got seats. I am grateful that I had almost a decade of plentiful seats that were great (those days are clearly over) and that going to a pearl jam show is low on my priority list.
+1
I like the lottery. If I don't "win" tickets, I'll just get them elsewhere.
There is far less stress in the lottery system for me.

Yeah how far back they got or if they got Front Row or not...now it's whether they get Tickets at all lol
That's just because there are less shows now (and probably more fans with money to spend as the fan base gets older).

Not really...you have to be drawn first to stand a chance. And that's what I don't like about it.
Have been in the club many years and have paid more money for the privilege of retaining my number. I'm no smaller or bigger fan than anyone here. It has nothing to do with that.
But the ticket policy had remained the same since day one, so the lottery seemed to be a drastic change for long-timers with a lower number.
I won nothing the last lottery with a 189 number. Yet I see someone post here that they had won with a 400+ number for the same show. That was very difficult to accept.
Loyalty is my main issue, I guess. But I love this band and I'm along for the ride, regardless.
Why was that suddenly difficult to accept? Seniority plays the same role as it always did. It never helped people get tickets, but only determined where you seat was if you got one. Same thing now. No change at all.

Well that's Right it's been Said here Heaps of times that in the Past Seniority only took effect once you had those Tickets.
Lottery seems like the only fair way when there are more people wanting tickets than are available.

I've been in since 2003 and have never had much luck with the lottery. I landed tickets to PJ20, so that was good I guess. Other than that, I've been shut out of every lottery except Chicago, 2009, and the seats I "won" were way further away than what my friends got through ticketmaster.

They didn't do the lottery until 2013, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

So standing in the tenclub line in Chicago 2009 waiting to see if I got good tickets or shitty ones was what? a dream?

That wasn't a lottery. Those seats were selected based on your seniority.

I pretty distinctly remember that they gave several tickets to the front sections that weren't based on seniority, but maybe I'm dreaming that too

In fact, I know this is true because one of the girls waiting in line with me scored front section seats and screamed "I got lottery tickets!"
Lottery = random pulls to get tickets, ie, what is happening right now. Seat selection is based on seniority. Within that seat selection process, there was a "lottery" to decide who got rows 1-2 and 9-10. That is not the lottery that is taking place. The lottery everyone is talking about is how they process shows now. Waiting in line to see if you got GOOD tickets is not a lottery, that means you got tickets. what is going on NOW, is a lottery. People are waiting to see if they even got tickets to the show based on random pulls.
i thought we always called it the lottery? My friends and I have always called it that. Sorry i'm not hip to the heady lingo
It's not lingo. It's actually what it is. A lottery is a random draw. The seat selection based on seniority is not a random draw.
again, i'm pretty sure they gave a certain number of tickets that weren't based on seniority at all, and we always called that the lottery.
We are talking about the method they selling ticket...called lottery now.. what you talking about was the lottery after people score tickets ..they do a draw for 1-2 and 9-10 rows of reserved seats..was random anfd no seniority like the rest of the 10c tix

right, and as my original post indicated, i haven't had much luck with either the lottery or the "lottery".

Yeah, they used to open 4 rows to a random draw so that members with shitty numbers would have a miniscule change to get a decent seat, that's true. But that has no relation to what's going on with the lottery system we have now.

Well I didn't win so I don't like it. I'm a member and I only see Pearl Jam when they come to my local city, Denver. The last time was 2006. I've kept my membership waiting for them to return and now I lost the lottery. :( it seems unfair to me.

But there were more people going for tix than were available. You were just as likely to have not got tix no matter what system they were using unless they increased the number of 10C tix available. If you had gotten tix someone else wouldn't have, so equally "unfair" to them, right?
