Nothing has been good on the history channel, Discovery, etc for YEARS. All the shows involve swamps, gators, rednecks and antiqueing.

I agree to a point. Their reality shows, which is all you mentioned, are getting ridiculour and pathetic. As for their scripted shows, that are historically based, tend to come out very good (with this Bonnie & Clyde show as an exception)

Best Mini-Series they've come out with.. Hatfields & McCoys
    Best drama scripted- Vikings

Z and I were very disappointed, though, on Nov 23rd, the 50th anniversary of JFK. You'd think they would have used that day to show JFK stuff all day (or at least all evening). But no, they had an American Picker marathon. They've lost consistency. I feel like thats all they used to do on historical days, as far as air the historal shows to go along with the theme. I don't know why that changed, but they're losing the audience who would go straight to the History channel with the assumption that they'd have something airing that tied in with the day. I suppose that moved to H2 (similar to how MTV moved all of their music videos to MTV2 and whatnot.. haha). blarggg :nono:

Other channels were airing that awful movie about it, based on the book by Bill F-ing O'Reilly, "Killing JFK." (Yes, that Bill O'Reilly). It's extremely concerning that Bill O'Reilly is being turned to as an authority on history, especially one as politically-loaded as the JFK assassination or the Lincoln assassination. I guess the positive part about the movie is that JFK was played by Rob Lowe, an all-time great 90s comedy villain.

    rob-lowe-waynes-world-watn-red-carpet-movie-photo-GC.jpg

While I too find the JFK story interesting, the crux of most of what was out there during the anniversary focused on the conspiracy theories. I can't help but wonder, at least now in 2013, what significance is it who really killed JFK? I mean, we already know so much of what our government has done in the last 50 years around the world, both overtly and in clandestine (Nicaragua, Mexico, Africa, the Middle East etc), and now in the information age we know what our government is doing on a daily basis. So I wonder, would anyone really be surprised to know that Oswald didn't act alone? And if he didn't act alone, but in fact was sponsored by the Russians or the CIA or both, so what? Does that really alter or perception of modern goverrnments? Don't most people take it for granted that their government is secretly doing some awful things? Don't most people generally not care what their government is doing, so long as it doesn't impact their daily lives?

And isn't that all really, really sad?

  • Bonnie and Clyde were losers. They shot and robbed without thought or concern. They are only remembered because of the way they went out. "A hail of bullets" in complete Hollyway fashion and for the Warren Beatty/Faye Dunaway movie that is thought to be so great and lovely.

I do not include them in the genre of Depression Era Outlaws; at least, I don't care to read more or see the sights of their footprints. I just kind of dismiss them because their story is always looped into books and readings of that time because they happened to be active when Dillinger, Karpis and Floyd were terrorizing the midwest.

That being said, Diddy and I were excited to see this "movie" because of Bonnie and Clyde's shoot out and escape in Joplin, Missouri. Joplin is special to us because Diddy's father was born and raised there and she grew up visiting the sourthern, boarder-line town. We recently took a trip down there, so we have that on our minds. It's a happy accident that this part of the story collides with us. And why not watch a dramatized version of what happened. We've heard so many tales and anicdotes about the two, it was fun to be excited to see it on the TV. The first part was just so slow and sucked. Part 2 airs tonight and looks to involve more cars, gun, blood and guts.

So, we shall tune in and see how it measures up.
  • I'm not sure if knowing the truth about the JFK assination would impact anyone. It's sort of lost to history.

But I will throw this thought out there......

The assination is so muddled and riddled with doubt and skeptics. For whatever reasons they have, the consipracies are out there. It seems to me, this was the first time the people questioned the government and maybe the first event where the people wondered outloud about it's government. Maybe this is the start. I don't know. I'm sure a history buff out there will debunk my statement and that would be fine. Because the JFK assination was so grand and public and outrageous, the people wanted answers and have felt we havn't gotten them. I dont know. I feel like I'm rambling. I'll just be done and not edit any of this. :D8-):D8-):D8-):D:lol::D8-):D8-):D

    Let's talk Pearl Jam.

What are your show "weird stats?" I've seen this discussed in other places, but I thought it'd be fun to bounce around with you guys. I always love knowing what similar shows people have been to and what unique things people have seen. What sort of weird songs, shows, locations, covers, trends etc have you seen?

Here's what I've put together (you don't have to follow these topics):

    1. Covers - I saw the last time they played "My Generation" (6/30/98 MPLS, MN). I've seen "Throw Your Hatred Down", which has only been played in Germany, Australia, or California. The most covers I've seen in a show is 6 (6 of 33 songs, LA II, 2013). I've seen all of the Pink Floyd covers they do. I've "The Needle and The Damage Done" (3x total).
    2. States- I've seen them in 5 states (CA 4x, IL 4x, MN 3x, WI 2x, LA 1x).
    3. Countries - I've seen them in 3 countries (Canada, The Netherlands, USA).
    4. Months - I've seen PJ in the following months (May: 1 times, June: 5 times, July: 1 time, August: 3 times, September: 3 times, November: 3 times).
    5. Albums - I've seen live: 100% of Ten (11 of 11), 83% of Vs. (10 of 12), 71% of Vitalogy (10 of 14, 3 of which have never been played), 77% of No Code (10 of 13), 92% of Yield (12 of 13), 62% of Binaural (8 of 13), 66% of Riot Act (10 of 15, 2 of which I have seen EV do though), 61% of self-titled/Avocado (8 of 13), 73% of Backspacer (8 of 11), 92% of Lightning Bolt (11 of 12).
    6. Rarities (originals) - All The Way (played 2x total, seen once), Bugs (played 3x total, seen twice), In The Moonlight (played 2x total, seen once), Education (played 7x total, seen twice), Help Help (played 10x, seen once), All Or None (played 11x, seen once), No Way (played 11x total, seen twice), Push Me Pull Me (played 12x, seen once), All Those Yesterdays (played 14x total, seen once), Ghost (played 15x total, seen once). There were some borderline "rarities" (songs played approx. 20x) too.
    7. Closers - The "rarest" closer I've seen is Porch (MPLS 98). I've gotten RITFW 6x, YL 4x, Indifference 3x, Kick Out The Jams 2x.
    8. Seats - I've been on Stone's side eight times.

Whew...that was like an all-day project. I better go home early (Simpsons, anyone? Anyone?)

    Now you go.

    Just watched the Vikings-Ravens highlights.

    Wow.

Every week my dad and I say, "we've never seen anything like this" and then the Vikes out do themselves the following week

    it's something else, isn't it?

craziest finish to a game i can recall. apparently terrell suggs said afterward that, apart from the super bowl, it was the most special win he's experienced.

    St. Paul 06
    PJ20 1
    PJ20 2
    Atlanta 012
    Wrigley 013

I will avoid the "deep" stats for now and say this.....based on my list, I've only seen them play one "tour" show. That would be my first show, St. Paul 03.

Otherwise....The two 06 shows they opened for Petty. PJ20 was an epic weekend and celebration, and wasn't really a tour. Atlanta was a festival show and again, not on tour. Wrigley was a special event, not a tour.

    Weird, huh?

Regardless of outcome, you don't enjoy it?

I mean, I want them to win and be good. And when they lose, it sucks, but I get over it before the next day. As a football game, yesterday's game must have been a wild one to watch

But then again, I like watching football.
