Pendulum overkill
Options
Am I they only one who thinks its odd they continue to open up with Pendulum. The opening song to me has always been a big deal. I was very disappointed when they played it twice in Brooklyn. I don't get it.

I'm split on this.... I LOVE the song, but I went to the Philly shows and it was a little sad knowing what was going to be the first notes when they came out both nights. I'm also going down to Dallas/OKC, and again it removes a bit of the mystery knowing that's what I'll hear first.
On the other hand, they are averaging 33-34 songs a night which is a good song or two higher than the usual....so to me Pendelum is just the intro, and then song #2 is like the real opener....and based on what they have been doing that song has been staying more true to opening form (Release, Long Road, HTI, etc)....and it's not taking away any songs from the set as a whole given how many they are playing in a given night.95' - 7/9

Lol. Read my posts from about a week ago. 4 shows, 4 Pendulam openers.
I agree with the excitement of calling the openers, one of my favorite things about going to shows. It's all good though, just lucky and happy to see the shows with my lovely girlfriend.0 -
I was so happy when they opened with Pendulum in Brooklyn, and the next night when I saw Mike with that big white Gretsch again I was thrilled. Hearing Eddie's deep voice blasting through the sound system in the darkness gave me the chills.
The song just works in an arena on a whole other level. They should keep playing it every night.
I escaped it...a life wasted...I'm never going back again0 -
I am with you OP. was hoping night two in Brooklyn they would come out and kick ass.0

definitely. cities that have more than 1 show they dont need to open both shows with it. they can easily play it later in the set. thats always 1 of the things i look forward to when going to a show, "what are they gonna open with? release? long road? oceans? sometimes?" this tour there was no suspense when the lights when out. and even though it was cool to get release as the 2nd song for brooklyn 1, if release isnt opening the show i dont wanna hear it.0
-
I love the song live. I also dig the regular opener right after.
Hartford was great.
Pendelum, long road, sometimes, corduroy
All openers by the way0 -
It seems they are using Pendulum as a live intro (replacing house music of Metamorphisis II) followed by traditional openers. I love it. Hope they do it at my one show this tour (OKC)0

I wasn't the biggest fan of this song in the first place, and I'm definitely not a fan after hearing it open all my shows.
I like Getaway and My Father's Son much more than I ever liked Pendulum and of course I didn't get either of those songs but I got Pendulum at every show. :roll:Post edited by Agg on2013: Wrigley Field, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn 1, Brooklyn 2, Philly 1, Philly 2, Baltimore

It's a hard call....they skipped one show and did Release?

Yeah, seems to be overkill. It's a decent song, but weird that it has opened every night but 1 so far on this tour. I guess we're all just used to the different openers every night.0

Agreed. And fixedPlease, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -

Go to less shows. Maybe won't bother some of you as much. The new record is less than 4 weeks old and songs played live are called tiresome?www.cluthelee.com0

go look at past concerts. This is a first. It has nothing to do with a new cd. They have a new cd out and have yet to play the best song on the album."I wish I was a lucky man, well I guess that I am." EV

To me it seems fairly obvious they are using the song as new entrance music, followed by a traditional opener. If it has grown tiresome, when the lights go down, leave your seat for four minutes, come back, and boom...you have a traditional opener to add to your collection. I seriously can't belief we are using the word tiresome to describe a song that has been officially released for 14 days. These guys just can't win with this fan base sometimes."You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today."- Abraham Lincoln0 -
As previously stated it's not really an opener but an intro. Pendulum into release, into wash, into long road, etc. It has taken over for metamorphosis, albeit a full song.0

the "best song" is a matter of opinion.
Getaway will make an appearance. Maybe they're saving it for the 2nd leg?
and for the record, I don't think I'll ever get sick of Pendulum. Love that song.I LOVE MUSIC.
