and calling someone out for it accomplishes what? jesus christ, if we all did that around here to everyone who misspoke or mistyped that would need its own forum. we could call it "Grievance".

i have been a big islam defender on here for a long time.

some of these things done by radical islamists in he name of islam recently have made it more and more difficult for me to defend their faith. these actions make the entire religion look bad. the same way that the westboro baptist church makes christianity look bad and the sexual abuse in the catholic church makes all catholics look bad.

i think the good elements of any religion need to step it up and be more visible and outshine the bad elements. nobody can do this unless the good elements in any faith rise up and stop their own lunatics. police their own house so to speak. the only people that can "fix" radical islam are muslims. the 95% of the regular everyday peaceful muslims. only they can stop the jihadis. the only ones who can "fix" pedophilia in the church are catholic members of that faith. the only people who can stop fred phelps are the regular christians. perhaps extreme acts of kindness will outshine the extreme acts of darkness.

i dunno, i am just rambling out loud i think....

Sorry to cut the quote but this is all i needed:

The problem is when something or someone needs defending, there is usually a problem either on the surface or below it. Ever have to defend one of your friends for something they did right? Of course not, life just continues until you have to defend them because they fucked up. Thus the problem with this thread. Let life be life and call an idiot who blows things up and idiot. No need for any racial or religious overtones to it.

Perhaps if the good elements of any religion were more vocal in condemning the actions of the bad elements that would be effective as well.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

I think one of the problems with this is that when the so-called good elements do speak up, nobody listens. Often those factions will simply be lumped in with the original, radical group and will face accusations of kowtowing to Western powers to hide their true agenda. If this thread is any indication, people are highly partisan and are quick to dismiss persons they disagree with as well as any evidence they present.

We've heard about Lee Rigby's murder for the better part of a week, but how much emphasis has been placed on local Muslim groups that have vocally condemned his murder?. While I won't go so far as to suggest that this side of the story was ignored in its entirety, it certainly has been placed on the back burner. There's a thread with ten pages dedicated to Lee Rigby's murder which is basically a slugfest about religious extremism yet not once is it mentioned that Drummer Rigby's family is actually opposed to any reprisal or outbursts against Islamic culture http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22725999, http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/drummer-lee-rigbys-family-reject-extremist-groups-using-woolwich-murder-for-political-gain-8639417.html. It's rather sad that the victim's family and local muslim groups have shown more levelheadedness about this issue when they are the ones that have been impacted so personally.

Just how vocal do people need to be when the masses refuse to listen?

These are points well worth noting. There will always be fringe elements of any group be it religious, political, environmental, artistic or whatever that make other member of that group look bad. The truth is, most people everywhere are decent folks just trying to go about the business of living.

Just because their intent isn't to terrorize civians doesn't mean they are justified in what they do intend to do or how they do it.

No, their proclaimed intent is irrelevant in light of the actual consequences of their actions. If you drop 500Ib bombs, and cluster munitions, on civilian areas, then the result will be terrorizing the population.
No shit. I already said that. I said that wasn't their motivation and i tent, vs what the motovation and intent of terrorists is, despite the fact that the US's actions still can have he effect of scaring and killing innocent civilians. Seriously, please pay attention to what I've written if you're going to try and discuss what I've said. Your intent seems to be to disagree with with me no matter what I've actually.said; kind of strange. You've been drilling me on a really minor and objective post about how terrorists and the US (or usually any nation with an organized military campaign) have different intentions and motivations. The comments were practically irrelevant to the main discussion, and only a response to some random comment someone made about the US and terrorosts being exactly the same, which I don't agree with. I don't understand why you are still trying to pick a fight over that post, or why you have just created meaning for it out of thin air. Is it because you've run out of arguments for every other point?

Because their proclaimed intentions are irrelevant when the outcome of their actions is the same.

all I can say is read the news man, have you ever heard of a islamic group building hosiptals or giving money to non muslim charitys ? there's a islamic church about 10 blocks from my house and believe me they seem to have no interest in anybody outside their church..infact I have on quite a few occasions seen them outside the church posting signs about our military and jumping up and down screaming some kind of bullshit, if it were up to me I'd just ship all their ass's back to where they came from.

    Godfather.

This is the kind of view is an example of why other's hate us.

Not all muslim people are evil. I met plenty in college and they are generous people. To want to ship them all back because of what a portion does is stupid, prejudice, and terrible.
