The use of polling numbers in this thread is funny. Does anyone even know where these polls came from? What were the exact questions asked? Who was asked? I know I have never been polled on this issue. This is like saying...90% of the people on this board votes for who Eddie Vedder wants them to vote for.
Why don't they try to enforce the current laws on the books instead of trying to create new ones? A felon who goes into a gun store and tries to buy a gun is suppose to be prosecuted. In 2010, apparently some 15000+ felons attempted to buy a gun and were denied with a background check. Only 44 were prosecuted...

why don't you google the most recent polls in the last 3 months regarding gun legislation? in nearly all of them 75-91% support mandatory background checks.

the nra outright fucking lied and said that this bill contained language laying groundwork for a national gun registry. this false claim was repeated by the republicans who voted against it. fact is, the bill stated in plain english that a national gun registry would be illegal.

I'm still confused as to how a bill can be voted as 54-45 in support and still not pass. I've heard something about needing 60, and that meaning its filibuster proof?
When did all that happen? I don't remember be taught in school that you need 60 votes to pass a bill.
Also if the one main job of the Vice President is to cast a deciding vote if the Senate is tied, doesn't this 60 vote thing mean that the VP is completely useless?

here 's a sample of mass gun laws....no criminal or terrorist is going to do this to get a gun legally since what they're going to do is illegal:

Purchasing a gun in OH is not difficult. Fill out paperwork for quick background check. As long as you have no criminal history you can get a gun. You can only purchase 1 hand gun within 1 week time, but there is no limit for rifles (even AR and AK styles). As long as you answer the questions "correctly" with no criminal history you're good. There has to be little bit more scrutiny than that IMO. Psychological background check, safety training or documentation that you know how to use a gun responsibly, etc
