Why do you jump to the conclusion that someone is lying rather than them just trying to figure out what's going on while all of their sources are unable to actually communicate solid facts to them from there right now? Oh. There is no such thing as a US President who doesn't concentrate most of his effort in the last year of his first term campaigning. That is just an unrealistic expectation!

But I'm letting myself get sidetracked from my original point. Mainly - that these were militants, soldiers (allegedly tied to al qaeda, trained and funded by NATO, but I'll save that for later )that carried out these attacks. I don't buy that all of these people are motivated by religion. I think that's a convenient portayal for a corporate owned media (part and parcel of the MIC), or political spin for a corrupt government (not to finger obama - I mean ANY hawkish, pandering politician - so most). A divided middle east, a divided world is in the best interests of a lot of powerful people. But talking like this, without fail, invites calls of 'conspiracy theorist', as evidenced by polaris' weary attempt to broach the subject in the locked thread, and the reaction it received. I'm willing to bet that if we looked at these people as individuals, we'd find a lot of different motivations for why they choose to attack western interests. I have to wonder how many would be influenced more by obedient, militant culture, than intolerance (the same can be said of western soldiers)...and motivated more by personal tragedy than dogma.

I came to this thread late; I read it start to finish over lunch....the first five pages are a lot of speculation and blind rage. no one even had any information yet, and it was instantly 'nuke 'em', 'they're 1000 years behind' (savages) etc....and then a whole lot of negative talk about Islam in general. kat picked a good time to tell everyone to calm the fuck down and wait until we even knew what happened...dignin's pics added to that sentiment. Yes, attacking embassies is a big deal. I agree with Cliffy..this line of thinking is just stupid. It won't hurt Obama's chances for reelection one bit because only those that already have a hatred for Obama (and probably still believe he isn't a US citizen) think like the above. I think independents seeing that republicans think like the above actually HELPS his chances of reelection.

the president did not apoligize. the initial message was sent from the people inside the embassy who were trying to keep the mob from escalating.

in all honesty, if you were in that situation what would you have done?

imagine if obama wins again. it was bad enough to some of these backwoods racist "conservatives" the first time. if he wins again a million heads are gonna explode.

these things go in cycles. it is a numbers game. romney's message is not resonating with voters so he is unlikely to win.

if obama wins are we gonna have rioting in the streets or just another 4 years of bitching, whining, and false accusations?

i agree with mickeyrat. i would rather have someone in the oval office who is pragmatic and able to see all sides, not someone hotheaded like romney who will rush to judgement and attack without having all of the facts like he did in this libya situation :fp:
