If you are the owner of a company that sells franchises, keep your mouth shut on your public opinions. You think some dude that shelled out several hundred thousand dollars is happy with this publicity?

Just smile in front of the cameras and maybe mention how you support helping the youth. All people like the youth ... except old man Crenshaw ... he hates those whipper snappers ... they keep riding their bikes through his yard.

    dumb.

Also .... their chicken sandwiches are way over-hyped.

i never said that they didn't have the right to hate gays, dislike gays, not hire gays, etc. (that's their first amendment and private property rights)...however the same exact political process allows for towns that hold opposing viewpoints to say get your shit outta here because we don't want your religious bullshit. Don't we also have freedom of religion?

I'm not so sure about that. What you're talking about is a gov't official restricting private business (or attempting to) due to the opinions expressed by an individual strongly affiliated with said business. Gov't directly influencing private matters due to particular speech. How is that not a 1st Amendment violation?

You also mentioned that Chick-fil-a has the right not to hire gays and I almost posted a link to the EEOC website (I'm going to do it anyway, but with this intro caveat), but it turns out sexual orientation is not one of the protected classes? I'm hardly a gay rights activist, but that surprised me and seems wrong. I thought for sure sexual orientation was explicitly included in the Equal Employment Opportunity Act (which I think is technically just a subset of the 1964 Civil Rights Act). My employer definitely includes sexual orientation as a part of its anti-discrimination policy. Here's the link.

Also, RW, since you seemed confused in a later post:

    tra·di·tion/trəˈdiSHən/
    Noun:
The transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.
A long-established custom or belief that has been passed on in this way.

Hahaha, could be. I just find the whole thing really silly. Made me wonder a bit about the intelligence level of the people going batshit crazy on chick-fil-a.

that's my point ... who's going batshit crazy!? ... no one ... as a full fledged supporter of gay marriage (and it is a human rights issue) - the only troubling thing to me is simply that the political dialogue and policy is being driven by people with money/corporations ... and the continued influence of secular groups in a non-secular state ...

You don't see facebook much huh? It's ok, normally, neither do i.

And I disagree, it's be driven by churches. And by public opinion, which has shifted. So, now it's a full on public opinion v. church battle royale. It'll happen, not as fast as it seems like it should. But it'll happen.

Personally, if a corporation wants to be political or espouse religious beliefs, they can enjoy the benefits and consequences of doing that. It's their right to do it and enjoy any blowback or support. I was happy to see the Muppets/Henson separate from this corporation because the Muppets have always been about inclusiveness for more than 40 years. As always, I support groups with my $. There's lots of other chicken out there, right? mmmm, chicken. :)

The muppets thing was strange to me because they should have known this already. This isn't the first time this subject, or one like it, has come up with chik fil a.

I agree, but a big part of this "blowback" is in elected officials trying to prevent Chick-fil-a doing business in their state/area. When the gov't creates barriers to private activities due to selected speech of related individuals, it becomes a 1st Amendment issue.
