My forum name and location are probably a bit of a giveaway when it comes to how much I love Neil!

The first time I remember hearing Neil was when I was rummaging through my Dad's old 7" singles when I was a kid and I came across the Heart Of Gold/Sugar Mountain single. I played that thing non stop for hours, it drove my parents crazy. I loved Sugar Mountain, I hadn't heard story telling like that before. My Dad gave me the single years later and I still spin it occasionally.

Neil headlined my first PJ show too. It was Finsbury Park in London in 93 and he was with Booker T. It was actually my first ever gig and I got Neil and PJ, not a bad start.

I think my top 10 Neil albums would look something like this:

    On The Beach
    Harvest
    Mirrorball
    Time Fades Away
    After The Goldrush
    Sleeps With Angels
    Rust Never Sleeps
    Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
    Tonight's The Night
    Chrome Dreams
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)

I use XACT to convert (on a mac). This walkthrough covers mac pretty well: http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/07/15/ho ... sing-os-x/

Just scored tickets for the Sunday night show at Red Rocks 8-) . Should be a great weekend, I'm also going to the 1st MMJ show there Friday night too :corn:.

    Hello Joe-
I just responded to you on the MMJ Roll Call board.

I have seen Neil at Red Rocks many times and will be going to one MMJ and both Neil shows at Red Rocks. Maybe he ought to get his "nephews" in line and tell them to play Red Rocks again too.

After The Goldrush. I say that because my father gave me a copy when I was 15 years old and it has forever since been a staple in my collection.

Other albums I'd personally suggest are:

    Harvest
    On The Beach
    Tonight's The Night
Mirrorball (as you probably know, PJ is the backing band)
    Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
    Zuma

Neil has some really strong albums, and then some that might not be considered as strong. Although you have to admire the man for a work technique that is hard to miss. That being no matter what, just keep on creating. Artists hit highs and lows, but the important thing is to keep working, and power through. Neil Young is a testament to that artistic motto.

Good choice. I wouldn't wait too long to get Rust Never Sleeps. ;)

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the album. They did a great job at transforming those songs.

Anyone going to see Neil and the Horse on tour? Would be cool to see them with Patti Smith.
And so you see, I have come to doubt

Americana is fucking awesome. Buy it. Now.

I think Clementine is one of my all-time fave NY songs.

I like that it came with a "video" for each song

It won't have a long shelf life for me either. Actually 2012 as a whole has been the worst music year for me that I can remember. There are many 5 albums that I've listened to a lot.
