I'm gonna have to pass on the vinyl-price too steep for me!
I did, however, pre-order the CD on Amazon for $12.99. I can't wait to get this CD-the new songs are really awesome!!
Yeah, I passed on the vinyl. Hopefully price drops on the preorder.

Can't wait to see that. The trailer reminded me of the Kings of Leon documentary, except with the kickass individual that is Neil instead of a few little bitches like KoL.
Really digging this!! A pretty epic 17 minutes indeed!

Was introduced to Neil in the mid 70's when I first heard Harvest and it saved me from wandering off into prog-rock. I have been a Neil fan ever since and have everything on vinyl up to Landing on Water and even have some oddities such as Where The Buffalo Roam soundtrack, Eldorado on vinyl and a bootleg of the concert where Neil plays Sweet Joni for the only time live. Switched to CD for subsequent releases and went back and bought many of my favourite early albums on CD as well.
If I had to pick a favourite Neil album would probably have to go for Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. My opinion changes from time to time but this is the one that comes out on top most often. Others hold special places, for example side two of On The Beach sounds like my life put to music and Harvest has continued to be regularly played even though I think he has done better.
The good thing about Neil's albums is that because of the variety many people can find something they like and of course something they dislike, and I must admit that there are some albums that I have not exactly worn out on the turntable. I think it was Neil Young himself that is quoted as saying "there is no best in music", and with his music it is just immersing yourself and grabbing what hits you between the eyes.
Now I'm livin' out here on the beach,
but those seagulls are still out of reach.
I'm assuming many of you have read the Young biography, Shakey by Jimmy McDonough. What did everyone think?
I labored through a lot of it, finding myself at times really intrigued with all the detail and the "insider" feel of it, and at other times, wondering if he wasn't just some nuts fan. It just seemed like he spent an inordinate amount time trashing every tour and every album after "Tonight's the Night," while finishing the whole book painting Neil as a sellout and Bob Dylan (of all people - he of the Chrysler commercial in mid 2000s) as someone who's stayed true to his roots (I love Dylan by the way). He spent some time with Neil railing against the nutso fans in The Neil Young Appreciation Society etc, and yet, he kind of came off as one himself.
I definitely enjoyed much of it, but its taken me so long to finish and I couldn't figure out why. Now, I think its because I was frustrated with much of what the guy had to say the whole time. He just came off as a guy who looks back on "the good ol' days" of music too much, like some snarky hipster saying "his old stuff's better." At times, it was well-written and very interesting (by the way, couldn't he have spelled the word "interesting" as "innaresting" only when Neil said it, and not through the ENTIRE book? ). At others, I was really, really annoyed at what I think was his attempt at objective criticism but to me, came off as the impetuous complaints of a long-time fan who longs for yesterday.
And as for how he ended the book? I have no time for people who play the sell-out card any more. If you don't like what Neil Young's doing, don't be a fan. Don't buy his albums, don't see him live. Go be your own hero.
And continuing with my tradition of reading topics in groups, I'll start Waging Heavy Peace and get Neil's take on things.

About a quarter of the way through Waging Heavy Peace and am enjoying the insights into not only Neil Young but also his relationships with people like Steven Stills. Neil certainly loves his trains and cars, but maybe that's what he needs to keep going.
Read Shakey years ago and can't remember too many of the details but maybe that also means I didn't get much out of it. Waging Heavy Peace rambles a bit at times but that is probably because it is written by the person himself and not heavily edited or filtered through a ghost writer. Makes it more honest and worthwhile.
Back to the reading....
Now I'm livin' out here on the beach,
but those seagulls are still out of reach.
According to Neil's FB page, the album will be streaming on his website on Wednesday at noon Pacific Time (the same time that he does his Twitter live chat):
Don't miss Neil's first-ever LIVE chat with fans on Twitter this Wed the 24 at noon Pacific Time, using the hashtag #askneil. Head over to http://NeilYoung.com/ then to ask YOUR questions, AND hear "Psychedelic Pill" a week before it's out at his site at the same time too!
