Hughes wasn't terrible tonight but against a better offense he'd probably have given up more than three runs. He didn't really seem to be throwing any effective breaking balls, just fastballs.

Still, the offense didn't exactly help apart from Jeter and Grandy.

I hear you. Tough for him since he doesn't have the control like someone like pettitte. Something has to change though, he was fairly effective tonight and still couldn't go 6

Phil usually has control though. Just not so much this year yet. And the reason he didn't go 6 is more on Girardi than Hughes. He wasn't getting hit hard and could have finished the inning.

I think Joe is at the end of the rope withh Hughes. The catching change was interesting and usually an indicator they are trying everything and anything.

Don't know why though? He's pitched better 2 of his last 3 starts. The numbers won't show it. Especially the 4 runs today with 1 of those happening 2 batters after he was out of the game. The Twins game he he pitched well. But the error and the shift hurt him that 1st inning. Gave up 6 runs but 2 were earned. Was cruising from innings 2-5. Wasn't allowed to finish the 6th after he gave up the homerun. Luckily they won that game or he would have been 0-5. I still think if he's fortunate to pitch the full year. The numbers will improve. What's really hurting him is the home runs though. If he misses his spot they hit a home run. If he hits his spot they still hit a home run. But he wasn't the only starter struggling. CC and Kuroda seemed to have turned it around. Nova is 3-0 but he has a 5.19 era and .343 BAA.

I can't explain it. He gets that two strike count quite a bit and just can't finish the batter. He knows the batter wll expand their strike zone at that point and doesn't exploit it. Bury one in the dirt...throw one at eye level. I don't know...just something is missing with him. I kow he has the talent, we've seen it. It's just not translating anymore.

He did have 6ks and is avg above 9ks per 9ip. Hard to say what it is though. He needs to perfect his offspeed stuff more. I've seen pitchers struggle and still throw less pitches. Sometimes it's just bad luck.

He's been up and down this season. His 1st start wasn't bad. he just threw too many pitches. His 2nd start he was hit around. Although 1 hit was slap hr and Tex misplayed a ball he gets 99.9% of the time. His 3rd start he pitched well. But as I've stated before even though he gave up 2 er 6 runs scored. Then the Texas game which started off great but ended badly. And today gives up 4 hits strikes out 6 and walks 1. Gives up 3 runs while he's in the game and the 4th runs scores 2 batters after he was out of the game. If Girardi doesn't let him finish an inning he won't have the confidence to in the future.

I went to tonight's game. Ticket cost $3.90 but the fees were $10. 5 for service and another 5 to print.

how were there 10 bucks in fees? Were you using on stub hub? As for Hughes, he was not awful, he had 34 pitches after two strikes, not good, but the Orioles were 1-for-11 after Hardy's home run. I think hitting Wieters changed the complexion of the game because Davis was 4-for-5 lifetime off Logan before that at-bat.

yea Stub. I don't know why it's $5 to print your tickets. As for Hughes he needs to get outs on the 1st or 2nd pitch of the at bat.

Hughes pitched better but this isn't extended spring training he needs to start giving the Yankees quality starts ASAP.
