i thought Larkin was borderline. kind of surprised he made it. I think if Barry Larkin is a Hall-of-Famer then Jimmy Rollins should be right there.

and Jack Morris should have made it. that guy was a top pitcher for a while and a big game pitcher. don't care about the numbers.

I don't get the hate on Larkin, he was one of the first shortstops that could hit, as someone else said. Prior to him, shortstops were of the Ozzie offensive numbers, after they are of the Jeter/Nomar/Arod.

Hilarious about Rollins. Larkin played for 19 seasons and had better numbers in his last year than Rollins has had in 3 years or so, granted Larkin has a few down years before that, but the point stands, you can't even compare the two.

CSN Philly does the comparison today. If he stays healthty Rollins will end up with better numbers in almost every category than Larkin except batting average. see below.

    http://www.csnphilly.com/blog/phillies- ... feedID=704

Cherrypicked stats. Just look at the batting line, it is not even comparable. Dude was a much better hitter with less power and speed. Rollins is on a 3-4 year decline, like I said. Larkin played 19 seasons and his last season in the big leagues was better than any of Rollins last 3.

Grace should be in just because he introduced the world to the term "slumpbuster."

On the definition of a "slumpbuster", after being pressed by host Jim Rome in a now-infamous 2003 interview on the television show "Rome is Burning" to clarify the baseball slang term...
"A slumpbuster is when you have to take one for the team. It's finding the biggest, nastiest, fattest broad, and you put the wood to her to come out of your slump. Also known as 'jumping on a grenade for the team'."

I'm a huge Bernie Williams fan but I think he's just a little short of being in the Hall of Fame. He had a great 8-year run but he dropped off too much after 2002.
Do you put Bernie Williams in? i do, but i'm a biased Yankees fan.

Bernies not in. Love him, but not good enough for not long enough.

I have always felt they need to redo the hall.

You need to honor people like Barry Larkin but you can't consider him a baseball legend. He was a great player

They should have multiple levels of the hall of fame and people should be inducted into their right group. Maybe 3 or 4 levels with the top one being names that when echoed you know you are talking about one of the greatest ever to play

I mean Babe Ruth and Barry Larkin are not even playing in the same ballpark.

I completely disagree with this. The Hall of Fame is a museum that highlights the best players in the game, and for an extended period of time, Larkin was the best shortstop in the game and some might say revolutionized the position. Who can compare to Babe Ruth, no one, he is the best player ever. If we are looking at that level, how many players are in the hall, 20? Like I said, it's a museum that highlights the best players in baseball and for a long time, Larkin was one.

  • Even taking away McGwire and Palmiero, you still have guyslike Frank Thomas and Fred McGriff who were both much better than Grace, plus guys like Will Clark and Don Mattingly who were better than Grace (but to a lesser extent than the other 2).

Fred Mcgriff should already be in....
Frank Thomas should be a 1st ballot....

And If Larkin is a Hall of Famer....

    Will Clark
    Don Mattingly
    Bernie Williams
    Mark Grace
    Are all Hall Of Famers....

    Hell...
If Barry Larkin is a Hall Of Famer....
Then Steve Garvey should have been a 1st Ballot Hall Of Famer.....
    Take me piece by piece.....

The deciding factor for A-Rod will be how many voters believe that he only used PEDs when he got to Texas and stopped in 2003 after the anonymous testing took place. If a voter thinks that the 3 seasons (or 2 depending on when he supposedly stopped in 2003) are the only seasons he used and he did everything else clean (his entire Seattle and NY careers with 2 clean MVPs and 2 clean HR crowns), then he might get in unless enough voters think that any use at all is enough to disqualify a player from consideration.
his story is so full of holes. how come his banned trainer was on the road with the yankees for the entire 2007(?) season? :x

    Lulz.

    Let's look at BA/OBA/SLG

    Larkin: .295/.371/.444

    Garvey: .294/.329/.446

So, Larkin was a much better offensive player than Garvey. Also, Larkin played a premium defensive position, and he played it incredibly well. Garvey played the least demanding position on the field. Garvey had a nice career, but he is not even close to being a Hall of Famer. Larkin's contributions in every facet of the game, as a hitter, fielder, and baserunner, make him a very worthy addition ton the HOF.
  • And another thing!!!! hehehehe

    Albert Belle???

    Probably on the juice...
    Right???

But if we WAS NOT on the juice.....

Then he is a 1st ballot Hall Of Famer.....

Look at his stats for 12 years....
    Take me piece by piece.....

Juice or not ALbert is not a HOF'er. Didn't even reach 400 hr's as an OF/DH and most importantly was very disliked by the media as well as teammates. He has zero shot of ever making it.

    Nonsense...
According to the Hall Of Fame...
A player must play a minimum 10 years to qualify.....
Albert played 12...So he is ok there...

The DH is part of the game...And has been for what??? 40 years????
    Over a 162 game schedule Albert Belle AVERAGED 40 HR'S and 130 RBI's.....
    Lifetime batting average of .295

Show me a DH with better Numbers.....
    There might be one....
But I cant think of one....

    HUh??

You give me 3 offensive stats??Of which 2 of the stats are basically EVEN.... BA/SLG
And you say Larkin was MUCH better offensively??? HUH????

    Garvey 272 HR's
    Larkin 198

    Garvey 1308 RBI
    Larkin 960

Who was a better LEADER as far as a teamate??
Garvey played every game for something like 8-9 years?? He SET the National League record for consecutive games played...Right???
Larkin was injured every other week and was on the DL 14 TIMES in his career......

Garvey's teams played in 5 World Series.....
Garvey's teams WON 1 World Series....Same as Larkin
