I think we should just all stop worrying until the BDO lineup is announced at the end of this month ...
and if PJ is headlining, we should then PANIC.Sydney, Australia - March 12, 1998; Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2003; Sydney, Australia - November 8, 2006; Sydney, Australia - November 25, 2006; Brisbane, Australia - November, 2009; Gold Coast, Australia - January, 2014, Gold Coast, Australia - November 20240 -
panic because big day out sucks so bad?
yeah i'd be really torn. i haven't been to a BDO since 2007 because of how bad it became. It's so not user friendly.0 -

it's definitely not a music festival that gives a shit about the music playing or they'd organize it in a way that made it easy to see and hear what you wanna see and hear.
usually the sound is so fucking shit if you're half way back at mt smart stadium that you may as well not be there.
i remember the sound cutting out during qotsa and it was like you were listening to music playing in a car parked outside with the windows almost the whole way up.0 -
Someone who has been leaking bands for the lineup said PJ is not the headliner and that Radiohead was....still unofficial but I do remember hearing rumours earlier this year about radiohead being here around feb next year....0
-
I really can't see them playing this. would be great but they have Been rumoured for the past 10 yrs0
-
I very much doubt they'll be here for the BDO. And going by what Mike says in the Toronto Sun dated today, they haven't even finished the new album yet.
'You said you think in terms of what comes next. So what comes next? I hear you've been recording.
We do have five or six demos that we feel good about -- just rough mixes and things. But first, we have to rehearse for the tour and relearn those songs. We were just having a meeting over the phone about which ones to do. Sometime next year, hopefully, we'll go back in and record some music. We need to get about seven or eight more songs down to have a full record.
Is the new material heading in any specific direction?
It's in such an infantile stage that it's hard to say. Right now it's a logical extension of Backspacer. There may be a few more dark songs, and a few longer songs. It might not be as poppy.
And what about the set lists for this tour? What are we going to get?
I think we're going to pull deeper from our back catalog than we've ever pulled. That's what we've talked about. There may be a couple of gems that people haven't heard live ever.
So, what's the plan for the next 20 years?
Wow. Just to try to keep moving on. We can only do that. We only have today. You can plan, but life gives you other things. I would hesitate to say where we'll be in 20 years.'

I really hope it doesn't happen for the main reason that i am moving back from the UK next months & wont be able to afford it & sick of big out door festivals where to many pissed people make it a uneasy day. PJ shows by themselves please & hopefully indoors.Eastern Creek 95,Syd 1 98,Bris 2 98, Syd 1&2 03, Reading Fest 06, Bris 1 06, London 09, Hyde Park 10, Gold Coast BDO 14 Budapest 22 Krakow 22 Amsterdam 22 St Paul 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 24 New York 1 24 Philly 1&2 24 Boston 1&2 24 Gold Coast 24 Melbourne 1 24 Sydney 1&2 240

Some artists call it the Big Day Off, as they have 2-5 days off betweeb shows. Plenty of time for sideshows, but I really dont believe they will play. They have never toured Australia twice off the back of one album, and took 11 years between their last 2 NZ visits.
YAY! Im getting married in Melb Jan 28th and thought for sure it would be the same day. Will make a fun 'after party' if they play the day after
dont hold me to those dates, but I'm very confident that's what they'll be (Sydney may not be Australia Day).
After doing some investigations, 1999 & 2010 shared the same dates, as did 2001/2007, 2002/2008, 2004/2009, 2000/2005/2011. So, its generally every the same dates every 6 years, so, in theory, 2006 & 2012 will share the same dates. These were the 2006 datesBrisbane: 14/03/98, 08/02/03, 10/11/06, 25/11/09
Gold Coast: 19/01/14, 13/11/24
Melbourne: 16/11/24, 18/11/24
Ed solo: 12/03/11, 25/02/140 -
I believe they were set to headline in 2001, but cancelled due to the festival tragedy in 2000, along with Oasis (who pulled out due to other bands set to replace when Pearl Jam pulled out). Unfortunately their worries were justified when a girl died in the pit watching Limp Bizkit.
Maybe! PJ tour Oz every 3 years or so (1995, 1998, 2003, 2006, 2009).PJ - Sydney 1998; Sydney 2003; Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle 2006; Melbourne, Sydney 2009; Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney 2014.

from mmm today
The Big Day Out has been swirling with rumours of who will be playing at next year's festival. And the list is growing longer by the week.
Triple M music reporter Nui Te Koha told The Hot Breakfast this morning: "There have been internet rumours on top of other rumours.
"Pearl Jam, My Chemical Romance and Kasabian are pretty much locked in, but the internet is saying Radiohead (pictured above), System Of The Down and The Killers."
We've never seen the rumour mill for the BDO working so hard, but if the rumours are true this is gonna be one of the biggest rock festivals Australia has ever seen!
Radiohead have a new record out - King Of Limbs- but have no tour dates locked in, while The Killers, fresh from winning Best VMA Rock Performance at last month's MTV Awards, have one show scheduled for November 12 in Orlando, Florida.Sydney 11/02/2003

Ideally, yea, BDO plus seperate shows!
BUT....I wana see PJ play, anywhere, anytime, playing any songs, for any length of time.... and if it's a BDO gig then fuck yea! I love the BDO, and for me personally PJ would be off the hoooooook crazy good here, there anywhere! I'm hoping it's a true rumour, tho I know chances are it's not. But maybe...0 -
MsNelly wrote:Savage Waste wrote:It opens the band up to a whole new/younger audience that would have not necessarily had the opportunity to hear PJ before.
This is exactly what I thought when I heard the rumour this morning. Maybe PJ would consider doing something like BDO to broaden their audience? To bond with some new fans, especially the younger demographic? And of course this isn't necessarily a bad thing . . . All artists want to continue growing, evolving and reaching out to new people. And Eddie has always been in the corner for kids (or youth). If his paternal (and ridiculously sexy - who else can be so paternal and so desirable at the same time?) loveliness can help some teenagers going through some shit then that would be a wonderful thing.
That said, for Pearl Jam fanatics used to being at concerts where there is just so much love and respect for the band (and respect is probably the important word here) - seeing them in an environment where there isn't that level of love and respect from the crowd will be challenging! Essentially us fans are going from concert experiences where the adoration is electric - where the fans all have this common bond that brings them together - to something that will be very different. And not only will we be competing with eachother for a decent view/spot, we'll be fighting a tonne of people that don't necessarily love the band that much too!!! So while I think it could be really cool, and yep a great PR gig for the band, if they're playing side-shows, I'd MUCH prefer to be at those, with all the other PJ crazies like me.
