    Exactly!

And plus I am sure they would do side shows!

Maybe a fan club show ;)... Have to think positive!

Do you think words/phrases like "who would be on your WISHLIST and "Public service announcement." are hints?

It was a comment on the Triple J Facebook page which I've quoted here.

    Nor do I,

Do you think there would have been a hint from a mod on this forum already if they were coming to Australia?

I've been thinking the same thing. If they are playing at BDO which is early next year, you would think there would be a "Tweet" on here by now. But I think the "Tweets" are only for the 10c ticketed shows ..

  • I was doubting pearl Jam would be there because we haven't had a tweet as well. But aren't the tweets for headlining shows to warn people who haven't updated thier 10club info? Either way, I still doubt they are there, we normally hear some rumours from this side of the camp on these things

But if there were side shows one would assume you could get 10c tix for those. But people seem to be forgetting we always hear about tour/releases/anything to do with pearl jam from every other source before we hear from ten club. For the bands official fan club/now record label they have their finger very far from the pulse.

    My feelings too.

There's no way that I wouldn't go, but I won't be thrilled about it.

I'll just go after work and hope for a decent sideshow in Melbourne as well.

(10C show @ Thebby? In my dreams, perhaps.)

A full tour is obviously way better than a festival (especially something like BDO). However, PJ's set at the Reading festival in 06 was one of the best shows I've seen (and they headlined after bands like Slayer, MCR and Bullet For My Valentine)
I'll take a PJ show any way I can get it!

I dont think the problem is the festival entirely.... its more the fact that the sets are only going to be an 1 hr 15mins to 1 hr 30mins at the most......

I don't have a problem with a slightly shorter set at all, that's fine. Some of the recent festival sets have been really good shows, Reading and Leeds in 2006 and Hyde Park in 2010 in particular.

My issue is the kind of audience you'll have to deal with at a BDO. A bunch of pissed, attention-seeking dickheads who don't give a shit about the actual music but go to the BDO every year religiously for the "vibe" and to reassure themselves they're still "with it". The younger kids are the least of my worries, they're usually at least enthusiastic and there for the music. It's the guys approaching middle-age on their "big day out" from responsibility that cause trouble in my experience.
  • I think for people to understand why we don't want pj on bdo you'd have to have been to bdo

I will prefer bdo over nothing

This is definitely my turn off.... I've seen them once at a festival (Hard Rock Calling) last year and the atmosphere was really good from my perspective, seemed everyone wanted to be there and even though there were heaps of drunk people they still sang along with pretty much everything and didnt start shit. But guaranteed BDO draws the younger generation who only probably heard last kiss on the radio and maybe betterman... In saying that however i figure a lot of them might end up in the boiler room with the dance artists.

Like I said above, the younger generation aren't my concern. I have a hard time believing most teenagers give a flying fuck about Pearl Jam and I can't imagine those who do will cause any trouble.

It's sweaty guys in their mid-30s who vaguely remember Even Flow from their uni days who've been on the piss all afternoon that you'll need to watch out for.

You have some good points there, Spencer.

If they'd just hurry up and announce the lineup, then we won't have to keep speculating.

  • I just can't believe after Roskilde that they'd be playing at a festival of the scale of BDO when a viable alternative exists (such as a stadium tour).

As a fan, the only possible benefit I could see out of this is that instead of a stadium tour, they might downsize their 'side' shows to arenas (or smaller), which would be a fantastic thing for us - I wasn't crazy about the stadiums last time compared with the amazing 2006 tour, and all that preceded it.

The problem they had with festivals post-Roskilde doesn't exist anymore. They've played 20+ festivals since then.

They're on the festival circuit for one reason and one reason only - it's easier for them. You don't have to worry about your own logistics, ticketing, staging, lighting, general venue security (I know PJ have their own GA security regardless).

It's easier and cheaper for them to play 6 festival shows in a stretch rather than their own arena shows. Which is fine.

ugh, the idea of having to go to big day out in order to see pearl jam is as appealing as the idea of chewing a wasp.

horrible day wrapped up in a gigantic waste of the money you spend to get there and the misery you feel when you realise you can't see or hear what you're there for.

I'm fairly certain PJ won't be on the BDO list. I remember when there was a PJ at BDO rumour a few years ago I promised to run around the block naked if they did. Maybe I'll make that promise again.

This seems like a much stronger rumour than in any other year I can recall though, at this point I think I'd be more surprised if it doesn't happen.

I wouldn't expect a 10C tweet, they'll have nothing (presumably) to do with the ticketing for the festival shows. They usually don't seem to announce the sideshows until at least a while after the BDO tickets have gone on sale so they don't eat into the festival ticket sales. I expect 10C will sell tickets to sideshows if they happen, so I guess they'll be more involved at that point (which might be a few months away).
