unless they are playing the cubs on a hot humid summer night at wrigley.

but that was coming off a win.

i'm still dissapointed by that performance

I put $25 on the D-Bags and the over, saw the first half-inning, and rescued myself with $50 on the Phils. I like betting on games where Mark Grace is involved though.

First glance I think the Pats are a lock. They should be giving double digits. And even though mcnabb is the vikes QB, I think SD is giving too many points. Those are my two top choices a month before the season starts (so there's plenty of time for that to change)

Damn I forgot 9/11/11 was going to be opening week. This is sure to be a case study in how politics is always a part of sports. Remember it is political when they spend our tax dollars flying jets over stadiums, and we get over the top cut away scenes to people serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as if watching football means you support that too. Ughhh...I'm gonna have to gamble heavily on week 1 and hope that Wells Discount still has $20.99 loose cases of Newcastle. Anyway:

Here's my lead pipe lock bet of Week 1: Every sportscaster is gonna conveniently forget that Pat Tillman was talking to Noam Chomsky and planning to protest the war in Iraq when he returned from Afghanistan. I'd be willing to put my whole bank account on that.

Other than that I agree with Fixer on New England, Eagles on turf against the Rams, and the GMen over Washington because Washington fucking sucks.

NY vs Washington on 9/11. Gotta give the NFL credit for putting that one on the schedule. Hopefully they have some cool pregame stuff planned for that one.

did you read jon kraukauer's tillman book? spectacular. extremely sad, disappointing, and frustrating

Anyone getting the itch like me for football and started betting on baseball? NyG vs. Wash and NyJ vs. Dal on Sunday night is going to be so fucking ridiculous I'll probably have a whole semesters worth of shit to talk about. Have not read the book, but have done tons of academic reading/my own research on him. Totally incredible and complex human being who actually had independent thoughts on many things including the two different wars. It's so sad that he was used as a face to help promote sacrifice for one's country for a war that he hated. Anyway, that'll be in the back of my mind, as I hopefully watch the Cowboys beat the fucking bejesus out of the Jets. We generally match up well against teams like the Jets, but it's Week 1 so who knows.

First glance I like dallas plus the points in that game. I hate taking the jets as favorites. Their games are usually close, so I'd much rather have the points.

I don't bet baseball until the playoffs. I am building my stash of man money for the upcoming football season. I start small with my college bets. ONce the conference games start it is bombs away. I don't mind throwing some big money on the early season NFL games, I will pick my spots early on. Once October hits I will be in full on degenerate mode...betting around 50 games a weekend and the MLB playoff games. I love it.

San Diego is notorious for its poor starts, so taking 8.5 with the McVikings looks solid. (Heck at +330 the money line is intriguing, SD has lost to inferior opponents to open 2 of the last 3 seasons)
    This weekend we rock Portland

I was on KC big last year. Wasn't Oakland one of those games too. I vaguely remember Oakland going up big and pissing the lead away late (but still covering). I was on the Raiders in that game as well...which was the late MNF game of opening weekend.

It's amazing how vividly you remember the games you bet on.

Fixer is right, Raiders lost late, but covered...by 4 I think. It was the 2nd MNF game in 2009.

notice how all the o/u's are kind of low?

defenses are gonna be way ahead of offenses early on this year due to the lockout

also moving the kickoff up to the 35 will probably mean lower totals this year. last time it was at the 35 was 1993 and only 4 kicks were returned for td's that year. last year there were 23.

they had to figure out a way to compensate for all the dumb penalties the defense gets in today's game.

I think 6 games went under during the entire 2010 season
