WOW...that game was handed to Dallas by the refs, and by the Heat.
The refs did make some bad calls, both ways, but I got the feeling that most of them were going in Dallas' favor. Especially the loose ball fouls. It seemed like almost any time Miami missed a shot they called a foul on Miami in the rebound, and on several of them literally nothing happened. I'm really surprised they didn't call a foul on Dirk's last shot and send him to the line to send the game into OT.
I don't know what happened on the double dribble call. But I think it's like the analysts were saying, that they knew they got the deflection/travel call wrong, and so they called the double dribble to make up for it. But it was sloppy as hell, and like they were saying, if they didn't call the travel, then how could they call the double dribble? I think the end result was correct, they way they called it was just kind of shady.
Dirk had a hell of a game though, unfortunately most people are going to remember that last shot.
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
Dirk is awesome. And you read the refs (in)ability exactly the way I did. The worst though was Bron pulling the perfect Reggie Miller move and getting nothing for it.
9/10 times that shot goes in for Dirk. You know he'll be at the gym early tomorrow working on it. Good game tonight.

That shit should be an offensive foul. And this is not an anti James post, but a bad refreffing post. the defender is entitled to the air space from the floor to the ceiling. if they jump straight up and the offensive player jumps into the defender, i just don't see how that is anything but an offensive foul. and the kickin the leg into the defender shoudl be a flagrent.

I think that should have been a no-call or at worst, like you said, an offensive foul. If you get a guy in the air to the point where he's gonna land on you (like Kidd did to Wade earlier) that's fine. But if the guy leaves his feet but you still have to lean into him to get the call, you shouldn't get it.
really tho ... if dallas could hit their open looks ... they would have won yesterday ... dallas is gonna live and die by the 3 ... and right now chalmers is hitting and dallas ain't ...

This. And the inability to get the offensive rebound when you do miss. I swear there was a run in the 4th where Dallas took 5 jump shots in a row, missed all of them, and then missed the rebound. Seemed like it anyway.
At least the crowd didn't disappoint. Way more into it than Miami.

well ... the reason why mavs are getting rebounds is because miami clogged the lane which is the reason why mavs had sooo many open looks ...

I think if Jason Kidd could be a little more productive offensively (in terms of scoring), Dallas wouldn't be having such a difficult time. I don't know how many shots I saw Kidd take that were good looks, good shots... but he just couldn't get the right touch.
I'll continue to say that Dirk's ability to hit the shots that he does is marvelous.

I dunno. I'm pretty sure even Dirk doesn't shoot 90% from the field.
I'm talking about from that spot, on the top of the free throw line. He normally makes it.

Yep and their inability to make free throws. They're the best free throw shooting team in the league and the finals they have a hard time making them.
Chalmers is only useful when they need a 3 and Dallas needs to guard him better. Also, his buzzer beater in the first quarter shouldn't have counted.

every game i've seen dallas play this year, kidd tosses it over the top to dirk. that's the extent of his offense outside of a couple of threes he's not a scorer any more.

His #1 asset is definitely his ability to pass and find a good luck to a teammate.

I'm not as impressed with the Dallas crowd. Having lived here for 25 of my 31 years of life, I have always been disappointed in Dallas sports "fans". I know there are some good ones, but the overall majority are champion chasers. Yes the stands were filled with enthusiastic people, but I bet most of them haven't attended a game all year. As soon as the Stars, Mavericks, Rangers, or whoever make it into the playoffs, then EVERYBODY turns out, but the only team that gets steady support are the Cowboys.
The Mavericks have had a very suspicious sellout record, that turned out to be mostly Mark Cuban making lots of bulk ticket deals and doing other things to fudge the numbers. You could go to a game that was a "sell out" and 30% of the seats in AAC would be empty. Two years ago they couldn't even sell out their home opener, well, they couldn't without Cuban "working the phones" that is.
Look at the Rangers. They've always had a following, but not an incredibly strong one. Then they make it to the World Series last year, and EVERYBODY is a Rangers fan. " Life long Rangers fans" they would tell you. This year they sold more tickets before opening day then they had before the halfway mark of last season. Why weren't these fans piling in to see the Rangers last season? A buddy of mine has been a huge Rangers fan as long as I have known him, about 20 years, and I felt bad because he couldn't get a World Series ticket to save his life. There were a few, but he couldn't afford them. But after San Francisco took a 2-0 lead in the series (winning game 2 by 9-0) and the series moved to Texas, the market was flooded with tickets, and for about half the price they had been before. But after Texas won Game 3 then the market dried up again, and those that were available were back to astronomical prices. That's a pretty weak fan base in my opinion.
Anyway, that's my Dallas fan rant. I know some good ones, but don't let enthusiastic crowds fool you. If the Mavs weren't doing well and The Stars were in the playoffs, they'd all be over there instead. When Dallas won the Stanley Cup back in '99 I was surrounded by throngs of "hardcore Stars Fans" that didn't even understand the rules of hockey. Most hadn't even seen a game until The Stars were in the Cup Finals.

The comments on that Gregg Doyel article were funny. Both LeBron and Wade had an impact on 35-37 points, and LeBron plays defense like Darelle Revis. Ask everyone he's guarded this post-season.
Can the Mavs play much better than they did in the first half? And they are still down by 2. I guess maybe if they got hot from the 3 point line, but they looked like they just gave it all they had and it isn't enough. Maybe I'm wrong, I just want to see an entertaining game. I love when it comes down to the last possession.

A few missed free throws hurt them and the rebounding also.

I'd rather a no-call unless there's major contact. There's WAY TOO MANY FOUL CALLS in the NBA and half of them are inconsequential.
